More Set Pics From Dredd

Some more shots from the Cape Town set of Dredd. This time featuring our first look at some Mega City One vehicles..

Source: Bleeding Cool

These pics were posted on the Bleeding Cool forums from a scooper on the set. These police..or I should say these Judge vans are a far cry from Dredd's Law Master motorcycle! Lets hope those type of vehicles also make an appearance.

The first footage from Dredd will début at the Kapow! Comic Con in London early next year.

It looks like they are going for more realistic look rather than a futuristic look.

is this set a couple years in the future from now or what? Not digging the images we have seen so far. I am not a huge Judge Dredd fanatic, but aren't the comics set in a much more futuristic-looking environment?

SuperDude001 @ I'm a BIG fan of the comic books and them pics look more like ROBOCOP lol?

Still, with the budget I suppose they gotta cut corners, main thing is, its going to be a real DREDD movie!

From the sets, it does appear to be going for a less futuristic look. But its only a few vans and a building. We don't know what the full cityscapes will be like. The look of Mega City One is the one thing the Stallone movie did get right. But If this is better (and lets face it, how can it not be) in every other regard I can take a bit of liberty with the overall look.

If it weren't for the campy humor in the first Judge Dredd movie... the look was almost spot on... except for the codpiece and the slight alteration of the helmets.... Stallone's version was almost perfect. They almost got it right... and I do mean ALMOST.... no disrespect to Rob Schneider... but the humor should have been done away with. Not digging the way the new one is shaping up with this current pic at all.

@JacksonVegaIII - I dunno, I guess you're right.... it's just that the new pics and some shots of the new costume got me down. I also liked Stallone's helmet in his JD movie... but it needs to be a bit bigger to match the new one... they should've kept it IMO... and the shoulder pads looks a mite too small in the new one. IF - and I do mean IF the script was a dark and as "tight" as they say, then I think they dropped the ball somewhere on some of the sets and vehicles.... CGI may have been the better way to go in the new film for exactness.

We all know how fickle fans are going to be after the movie comes out... the story may be good but I know a lot may be disappointed at the look and comparisons with Stallone's work in terms of sets and costumes will be unavoidable.

I'll try not to judge (pun intended) the new movie before it's released... but so far, I can't help but like the old version in terms of art style/sets/costumes compared to the new one with what they are showing us with these sneak peeks. *sigh* if only Stallone's movie wasn't scripted into action/comedy.... that would have been the best Judge Dredd movie ever.

Cmon now, it wasn't just the tone of Stallone's movie that was off. It sucked in pretty much every way a movie can EXCEPT for the look. The acting, dialog and general pacing and direction was abysmal. I know some people have fond memories of it etc, but I have to call a spade a spade and that spade was shite! It also completely missed the point of the original comic and turned Dredd into a hero. I guarantee you that Urban's movie will be better, even if it doesn't look quite as nice.
Bigbywolf
Bigbywolf - 12/6/2010, 12:30 PM
The look of the Stallone one, for its time, was impressive. I agree with Ror, that it is hard to tell from these pictures how the look of the new one is going to turn out. I am guessing that there will be no flying cars in this one though.

YUP.

LOL
LOL - 12/6/2010, 12:46 PM
@Ror - which is why I said that the movie could have been better.... the script sucked, but they got the LOOK right. I do hope Urban's movie will be better story-wise, but the look is what may be a turn off to some... if they say they are going to stay true to the comic book in terms of tone... they should have gone all the way too in the looks department.... I mean come on, they shouldn't scrimpt on the damned budget on a sci-fi CBM.

IN Dredd's world, even the moon was colonized.... and there was a penal colony on Titan, one of Saturn's moons.

Like I said, fans are fickle beasts... only time will tell after we see the whole movie....

I think it'll be a very [frick]ed up future though, instead of the very futurostic flying cars etc look of the original, this'll be like New York city in the future ran by a series of gangs and the only real hope is a fascit-esque law enforcement. I always thought that was really interesting, making a character like Dredd the hero. Dredd is awesome.

It could be a good movie. But doesn't look at all sci fi compare to the first movie which was uber sci fi. I don't know how the comic was. Never read it.

I will wait til I see the finished product. I assume there will be alot of cgi to make the city seem well, MEGA. I am betting most of the Ford trucks will not get much screen time.

Judge Dredd needs to be directed by Zack Snyder
especially for visual preference. I mean looking at the
comics and then watching Snyder's movies and to mention
Sucker Punch his visual style is perfect for Dredd. And
have someone like Christopher Nolan to write this. I
think it would be perfect... wishful thinking haha.
Hardshaw
Hardshaw - 12/7/2010, 2:32 AM
The movie revolves around Dredd breaking in a new female rookie by the name of Anderson!!!! Anderson is a psychic and when her and Dredd respond to a triple homicide at a city block they face the wrath of a vicious gang after arresting one of its prized members the film follows along the lines of 28 blocks complete with ultra violence from the comic book the dialogue is really good too and so is the tech according to the script he rides a "fat wheeled bike" the lawgiver is exactly how it is in the comic based on the overall budget i can see why this might be a "retro fit" future in the same vein as Blade runner lets wait and see?
