Christopher Nolan Bringing The Dark Knight Rises To Asia; Could This Mean Talia Al Ghul?

According to Geoff Boucher over at the LA Times'Hero Complex, the director is scouting locations in Asia for his third and most probably final Batman movie. As any Batman fan worth their salt knows, a certain female villain from the comics is of Asian decent..

Here is the Tweet from Boucher..

Chris Nolan is under the weather and scouting locations in Asia for "DK Rises" but excited about Globes noms

Remember that Nolan first broke the news of the title for Batman 3, as it was then known, to Boucher so he seems to have a good line to the usually secretive director. If Nolan is looking for shooting locations in Asia, what could that mean for the movie's plot?

Well, the villain Ras Al Ghul is originally depicted as being of Arabic decent in the comics(despite being played by the decidedly non Arabic Liam Neeson in Batman Begins), but his daughter Talia's Mother was Chinese. Talia is a strong contender to feature in TDKR as the female villain currently being cast by Nolan. Of course this may not have any bearing on the plot at all and Nolan may well just be looking for good spots to double for other locations, but it certainly edges Talia in front of Catwoman for that female villain character in my eyes.

I realize this is a lot of speculation off the back of a tweet, so more on this as we have it.

Talia and a resurrected Ra's certaintly makes sense for this final movie. A completely new villain would be nice though. Either way, great find ROR! :)

@dellamorte1872 - What "cat comparison"? You mean what Fox said to Bruce? That's more absurd than people claiming Coleman Reese was going to be The Riddler because of his name.

We might as well deduce that the Clock King is going to be in TDKR because The Joker asked Gordon "What time is it?" in TDK.

FYI, The Dark Knight shot in Asia too, specifically Hong Kong, and no Talia.

Man, I hope he doesn't do a "Jack Napier" and turn Talia into Catwoman. He's been faithful in that context so far.

I don't think that there's a better villain to end his run on these films than Talia. I hope it's her.

As long as Hardy plays Hugo Strange and is the main villain, I'M SOLD!!! :))

As for his "Globe noms"... I sincerely hope Inception wins jack shit. It was worth it's nominations but not actual awards IMO. It was probably Leo's worst performance of his entire career, in fact the first 22 minutes of it left me with a huge "WTF!!!" face, just listening to ALL the actors deliver their lines and especially the reaction time they were alowed to use. It wasn't "rushed", it was botched. I was also taken aback by everyone that seemed "aware" of the concept's process, as if it was common knowledge. The whole film felt like a sequel to a previous chapter named "Extraction" we never got to see. And aside from being Leo's father in law, being a shallow vehicle to Page's character's introduction and providing the loosely linked plot point of how Leo got his experience, what the [frick] was Michael Caine's purpose in that film? He was completely wasted on a role that any Joe Schmuck could've played. In fact, the whole film would have been better had that character not even existed in the first place. Joseph's unnatural seriousness stuck out like a sore thumb and made his little kiss scene cringe inducing. Berenger was as unconvincing as he's always been. Throughout the entire film, i couldn't tell what the [frick] Watanabe was muttering. The fourth dream layer really pushed this film down the shit whole and the ending twist was the most predictable i've ever seen in my entire life, and that even given the film's very original concept. So after a 5 star film like TDK, i found Inception to be an unforgivable abomination. Putting my monumental expectations aside, it was a decent film in itself but definitely nothing to throw awards at. Hell, Avatar's highly unoriginal to not say ripped off plot and concept even without all the special effects would have been a better film than Inception, in my book. But the highlights were definitely the special effects as well as Hardy, Murphy and Page's performances. Those three performances alone made that film decent... barely. So if TDKR has Hardy as the main villain(Hugo Strange), i really can't wait to see it!!!

lol, Shaman, couldn't DISAGREE more! But you know what I think of the film. I'm not going to address all of your criticisms because most are just down to personal taste but I wills say: There was no twist dude!

As for this article, it doesn't for one second mean the villain is Talia, just my own speculation. Personally I prefer Catwoman..who is not JUST eye candy Deadshot, but I like Talia too.

Why would that mean no Catwoman. Why not have both? 2 female villains who love B.W. but not Batman. Make for an interesting love triangle. Add Bane and its even better. Bane and Talia vs. The Bat and the Cat. EPIC!

Don't want [frick]ing HUGO STRANGE lame character lol....BLACK MASK & DEADSHOT a must!

You all do know Ral's probably coming back, even if its just a cameo! : p

RorMachine- Oh but there was definitely a hint of it. That little "spinning top" was still spinning when Nolan cut to black LOL So he definitely "meant" to imply one. And i KNEW he'd do that ;)

dellamorte1872- I enjoyed JGL when he was training Page and especially in his action scenes. But anywhere else, his acting seemed a bit off to me. Marion's acting was on par but her role suffered from being an unstable character and not having more spotlight to flesh her out more. That's the whole problem with plenty of the characters in that film IMO. They all suffered from a merger of what seemed to be two separate chapters in one huge film. It's a damn shame cause this could have been such an epic series of films instead of a rushed one shot extravaganza. Nolan could really have picked up the ball where The Matrix fumbled.

LEEE777- I want either Hugo Strange, Riddler, Clock King and especially Lady Shiva. Shiva's for the physicality she could bring, and the others cause i really want Nolan to end his trilogy in a highly cerebral way. IMO, that would definitely need Hugo Strange as the Main villain with hopefully The Ventriloquist as a cool intro/cameo ;)

Not a fan of either Catwoman OR Talia. And this article could also suggest Lady Shiva, Ror ;)

Shaman, all of your negativity towards Inception seems to come from nothing but personal opinion, which is not enough to declare it a bad or merely passable movie. Just say you didn't like it for said reasons, as the film has already been enshrined as one of the best movies of the year, and in my opinion, deservedly so.

As for filming in Asia, I think they have done that in both Begins and TDK, so it could mean anything.

George88 - 12/14/2010, 9:51 AM
Talia or Catwoman is not needed. Throw in Vicki Vale or Julie Madison if you want a love interest.Personally I would like:
1.Black Mask
2.Penguin
3.Hugo Strange
4.Deadshot (Minor)
Black Mask to be picking up the broken underworld, Penguin being the corrupt owner of the iceberg lounge fighting it out with Black Mask in a turf war. Hugo Strange to be a police detective trying to help hunt the Batman and soon becomes obsessed and figures out his identity. Deadshot to have an extended sequence where Black Mask hires him and he chases Batman until Batman takes him out. Overall, the main villain to be Hugo Strange and Black Mask's origin to be explained by Bruce whilst talking to Alfred or Lucius or Gordon. This would make TDKR epic!!

@ godzillafart

Black Mask is about the furthest thing from a Red Skull rip off as you can get. They have nothing in common. He might have a skull masked fused to his face, but before that happened, he wore a black mask that looked like a person's face. He's obsessed with masks and has a huge collection of them that he used to wear.

as for the article, i dunno Ror. They went to Japan in the last one, and there wasn't a single important Japanese character from the comics in it.

Its like the people that think Killer Croc will be in this because they're filming a little in Louisiana. Its just a filming location. It doesn't necessarily mean any certain characters will show up. The Killer Croc thing is funny because people act like Louisiana is one giant swamp, lol. There IS a city there too, people, lol.

Ryguy88- So because you(and anyone else that agrees with you) have a different opinion than mine, i should state my opinion but still agree with you and say it deserves something i feel it doesn't? Um... no. I'm as entitled to have my opinion of the film and it's eligibility to win any awards, as much as i was entitled to watch the movie. I'll surely have to live with the fact that it will win awards (wrongfully IMO) just as you'll have to live with the fact that i publically disagree :)

Intruder- "It really isnt a big deal because 2010 sucked ass for movies.Period."

That it definitely did.

CorndogBurglar- *Gasp*!!! Does that mean that Green Lantern won't be going against Killer Croc or Solomon Grundy as well??? LOL Yeah, i guess it's just wishfull thinking from us fans ;)

I hadn't realized they filmed there for Begins..the League Of Shadows stuff I assume? I knew they did for the Wong extraction in TDK but either way both times they filmed there they were supposed to be there so if they are returning it has to be for a reason. But, your right Ryguy, CDB, it COULD mean anything..or nothing at all.

Shaman, yeah Nolan certainly wanted to mess with our heads a bit with the ending, but that's all it was. Even aside from the enormous plot holes it would create(and I'm not saying there are no small plot holes already!) Nolan and the cast have said that it was not supposed to be a dream. Plus, the top begins to falter before the black screen, something it never did when Cobb was actually dreaming.

i hope Talia and Selina will be in the film, the 2 women that has had the biggest impact in Bruce life they are poller opposites and can bounce of each other and fight for Bruce and i hope it is Hugo he is such a great villain for Bruce on all levels.

if this is nolens last and that would mean bales who should take over, for bale Mathew fox and for Nolan i don't now you need some body who has a love for the source material

Why would Talia be in Asia? That just seems like a random conclusion to jump to, because she isn't even really from Asia.
He also went to Asia in the last 2 movies.
