Will The Superman Reboot Be Titled: Kal El?

It seems this one slipped by when the James Bond title rumor emerged. In the same forum post the title of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot is "revealed" as being simply Kal El. Any truth to it? Have a look and decide for yourselves..

ItsJustmovies have picked up on this from the original post at Bleeding Cool
Bleeding Cool as they were looking into the rumor of Bond 23 being titled Red Sky At Night. They came across this message on the forum at www.ajb007.co.uk:

Hi, new here guys, nice to find such a cool site. Im close friends with an art director in the film industry, i wont mention his name but he has worked closely with production designer Michael Carlin and is about to start work in Canada on Kal-El, the next Superman movie. He was busy in 2010 on Bond 23 before it went into hiatus. He told me that the movie for a while had the code name Red Shadow, but when official documentation and the script arrived it contained the title Red Sky At Night and as such was reffered to as this by Sam Mendes, Michael Carlin and the producers and the studio etc. I think its a pretty cool title myself though out of the two Red Shadow is better i think though Red Sky At Night has a classic Bond Movie ring to it. he also said that filming would have been done in Ontario, Canada and there was a large stunt involving the Ontario Tower as well as a huge hockey game and skiing/winter sports sequences. What do you guys think?

Of course we have no way of knowing if this is valid or not. But it seems like such a throwaway reveal that it makes me think it might just be. I guess if Bond turns out to be legitimately titled Red Sky At Night(why?) there is a decent chance that Zack Snyder will be brining us Kal El! Whether its the real deal or not, what do you think of the title? Remember even though most people refer to the reboot at the moment as Man Of Steel, this was only the working title back when the movie was first announced.

Maybe. I think it would be a stupid idea though. Everyone knows who Superman is. The same probably doesnt apply for "Kal-El". Well spotted ROR! :)

I think its a cover up to hide that they are filming superman, they did this for Thor even though Thor's secret name was less obvious, but it still could be the title. Nice spot @ROR

Kal-EL:The Man of Steel or vice versa

Oh god I hope not. No one's gonna know what that means. Just call it Superman: The Man of Steel or just The Man of Steel if you want.

Man of Steel, and that's it, Kal-El is a lame name for a movie, and non-comic fans won't understand.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/24/2011, 3:17 PM
True. But then nobody would have been sure a Batman movie would have worked among non comic fans simply called The Dark Knight. I know it was a sequel but maybe WB are thinking along the same lines for this? Who knows. I prefer man Of Steel too though.

Yes but The Dark Knight is a generic title that sounds dark and stoic. You can hear it without knowing who Batman is and know it's an action/ thriller. The general public won't know what the fuzzle Kal El is.

I actually like the idea of having that as a title. It's not like the casual fan is not going to know it is Superman from the promotional posters and trailers. The Man of Steel works for me, but they better cast it properly to have a "Man of Steel".

Speaking of...I am surprised there has been no article on the LA Times Tweet that Joe Manganiello is "a frontrunner for the role".

Edit: Whoops, I see there was just an article posted. Took long enough. It is only a couple days old now. ;-)

From a business stand point, they wouldn't use it. Clark Kent is easily the more recognizable of the two names. I don't think they'd call it either. I could see Man of Steel (cause it's like the brother of Batman in a way- The Dark Knight title). I wouldn't be surprised if it were just called Superman.

And overseas in those anti-american countries, they will change it to The First Leaguer lol. Cause you know, Clark Kent is "american" :P

Hey remember this is probably a code name....or a lie.

Remember Superman Returns filmed throughout production under the title "Red Sun" (ala Star Wars Blue Harvest style).
