Joe Manganiello Definitely In The Running For Superman

Joe Manganiello Definitely In The Running For Superman

It appears that it's no longer just a rumor. According to LA Times Ministry Of Gossip Manganiello's name has been mentioned in certain circles to take up the mantle of The Man Of Steel..

True Blood's Joe Manganiello was rumored to be up for the role of Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot a good while back along with several other actors such as Jon Hamm and Mathew Goode. When the rumor died off many assumed it had just been fan speculation/wishful thinking and that was that. But then a tweet from Hero Complex once again suggested that Manganiello might really be a contender for the role. And it seems as if they weren't just speculating on the old rumor as some thought. This tweet prompted another La Times blog, Ministry Of Gossip, to press Hero Complex for some details and here is what they turned up..

Joe Manganiello must be howling at the moon — the "True Blood" werewolf is definitely in the running for the new "Superman."

Here’s what we know: At last week’s Academy Bake Off, a celebration of visual effects in film, talk around the room (especially from the team working on the new “Superman”) said Manganiello kept popping up in serious talks about a new face for the franchise.

The actor has remained fairly tight lipped about any possible involvement with the movie, simply stating that he would be honoured to be a part of it. It's not known if he has actually met with anyone in connection with Superman or if WB/Snyder are just considering him based on his expressed wishes to play the part. At least this development may encourage a little more digging! So if we are indeed looking at our new Superman, what do you think?

i could definately see this guy as Superman. He looks like him, and in that picture he looks about the right size.

I've never really heard of him though, i'm only going by the picture. He could be a terrible actor and i wouldn't know, lol.

@ Ror

who did this guy play on True Blood? I've watched every episode and i can't place him. But then again i smoke a lot of pot.

He won't be used. He looks like a mook. Supes needs brawn AND intelligence. This guy's got only one. Why not have a Jersey Shore cast member be in the running?

Char, that tweet was after the Hero Complex story but before this one! Check the article yourself. Plus even if he is not officially "negotiating" yet doesn't mean he is not being looked at for the role. We already know he would love to play it.

CDB, he is Alcide, the werewolf dude!

@ Corndog. He played Alcalade (the really tall werewolf that helped Sookie find Bill) in season 2 of True Blood. He had a monster beard.

I wouldn't bitch if he got it. My favorite Superman has always been Dean Cain and he didn't look perfectly like the comic book version either. I can deal with a slightly off lower lip and an italian nose as long as he brings his "A" game and Snyder doesn't let him act like a sanctimonious jock. If he is well surrounded and controlled by people who know how to make an accurate Superman film, i'm sure he'd be as good if not better than most, since he's gotta be mentionned a lot for a good reason. At least i hope he'll be up to it if he ever gets it.

I wouldn't mind this but I really cant see him playin Clark, and frankly we need an actor who can do justice to both sides of the character, so I say bring on Jake Gyllenhall! Just give the guy some 3 inch lifts and he's set!

Nice find though dude check out my Spider-Man fan cast!

Eh. I don't think he fits. I'm sure Nolan will make sense of who he deems proper for the role. This guy, however, doesn't fit IMO. Think about it -- Supes ages slower than normal humans. Routh made sense wit'out people realizin' it 'cuz of his age and physique, but they'd need to go the route they did wit' Bale in BB. Late 20s and broad, masculine build wit' a youthful face. By the time Bruce is in his 80s Supes just has the patches of gray hair on his sides like Mr. Fantastic. So remember -- Supes ages similar to a vampire. Not immortal, but slow.

This doesn't confirm the rumors. You can't confirm a rumor with another rumor. Its from the "Ministry of Gossip" for Crist's Sake! Its still a rumor, and one that I hope gets debunked soon. We don't need some goon playing one of the most iconic characters in all of literature.

He doesn't fit the goofy Clark from past movies, but he would be an excellent farm boy type Clark from the comics. Stop hating the guy is perfect. We will actually get a superman who isn't a pansy pretty boy.
