Hitman Director Xavier Gens Shares His Vision For A Daredevil Reboot

Since news that a Daredevil reboot might be in the works hit a good while back we have heard nothing else on the matter. But now one director has thrown hsi hat in the ring. He details the approach he would take and name checks Sam Worthington as his pick for Matt Murdock..

Over on Marvel Movies' FB page they have an interview with Hitman director Xavier Gens. He has a new movie out called The Divide, but during the interview Gens expresses his desire to helm the Daredevil reboot. (At the beginning of th interview Gens apologies for his English)

MM:..Are there any movies in this genre you'd like to tackle within the Marvel Universe?

XG: I really love the Marvel universe, one of my favorite is Daredevil. I really love also the Punisher and I don't understand why they made so many bad movies on that character.

MM: Funny thing about Daredevil is the theatrical version which wasn't taken so well…and then the Directors cut which gained quite a bit of praise from the fans. Personally I thought MSJ did a good job with what he had…I personally just didn't think Affleck was a good fit for the role. If given the chance what direction would you like to take Daredevil? Should this franchise be R rated like the directors cut???

XG: If I have to made a Daredevil movie, I will take a completely different direction. My vision of the character is much more a drama. There will be a 1st part in the child hood of matt Murdock and the universe of Hell kitchen. Something in the univers of the first Rocky Balboa. Is the story of a poor family of hell kitchen, the father is a loser who made some boxing match, the mother is sick and she died. The father have to make the education of is son alone. He became a outlaw, he made fight to win money and one day he is killed by the mobs. Alone Matt murdock go to an orphanage and is there were he got is accident. And there is a long reducation because he became blind and he have to learn a new sens. With a very realistic point of view. And he became better and better and he made lawyer study.

And if he were to get the chance to direct this reboot, who does he think would do a good job in the title role?

For Daredevil I think Sam Worthington could be very great and intense for this character. For the vilain it's depênd of the story.

Please note that Gens hasn't been approached to direct the movie in any way, this is just a great passion of his. last we heard Fox had planned a reboot and hired David Scarpa to pen a new script. Nothing since. I know many will be hoping they do nothing else with it so the rights revert back to Marvel? Don't hold your breath. All Fox have to do is release a crappy tv movie to keep a hold on the rights, and you can bet they will do so if it comes to the crunch. At this point all we can hope for is a good effort from them(although I actually liked their last one!). If they do move on this soon, do you think Gens would do a good job in the director's chair?

Here is a clip of his new movie The Divide

Nothing against Worthington? But i think that Chris Pine, Michael C. Hall or Jamie Bamber would be better fit for this role.

Michael Fassbender as Bullseye

Gary Oldman, Ray Stevenson, Ralph Fiennes or Danny Huston as The Owl

Charlie Hunnam as Richard Fisk aka Rose

Tadanobu Asano as Kirigi

James Gandolfini as The Kingpin

i just wish they would team up DD and Spidey in a movie. i mean how hard is that? and its the most famous of dynamic duos really. F Batman and Robin its all about DD and Spidey.

I'd rather see a Daredevil movie done in like a neo noir style, like Sin City.

Since he was connected to Hitman, anyone think Timothy O could make a decent DD?

Hey everybody looks like were gonna get a crappy DD orientated movie withen the next year from the studio that brought us x-men 3 ...somthing along the lines of a stilt man straight to dvd feature featuring a cameo from mat murdock

@superspidey:

both the superhero properties are owned by different studios, so it's hard for them to come up with a team-up movie. spider-man is owned by sony and daredevil is owned by fox (the last movie was, anyways). so you can't even have a name drop, like mentioning Murdock in a Spidey movie and vice versa. sucks, doesn't it??

This guy's automatically out for wanting Whisperington to play DD. What's next, Channing Tatum as Bullseye?

Michael C. Hall all the way!

I just can't get behind that guy or his ideas. DD has good source material to draw from, especially in regards to origins. If they use his mentor "Stick" right, then there is enormous potential for a series of training montages. There only needs to be one main villain to start, Kingpin and allusions or setups for the Hand, Electra and Bullseye. Seriously, DD's story is one that can be spread out; it doesn't need to be all told in one movie.

Come on now, Worthington is no De Nero but he is hardly Channing Tatum level crap! He gave a good performance in Avatar anyway. I don't think he would make a good DD either but there are worse choices.

i wouldnt compare Worthington to that pretty boy Tatum. Worth is much better actor. He just needs to learn the accent thing.
DiCaprio wasnt very good actor when he first started but he learned.
Same goes with Ledger. He sucked in Knight´s Tale.

As long as there's no playground fight scene in the new one, there's no way it could be worse

Oh and definitely Michael C Hall for DD, Eliza Dushku or Mila Kunis for Electra, Dane Cook for Bullseye, I just need a Kingpin...

Have you seen What's eating Gilbert Grape? Leo was arguably better back then.

Anyway, I don't think I really like his vision, or Sam Worthington for Matt Murdock. You need a scrappier looking guy. As long as they make better cast choices than the last one, it could be better. The entire cast on the last one was way, way off.

Sam Worthington would work as DD.

Sounds interesting, nice find Ror. Not too keen on Worthington tho.

@LEEE, gotta say that pic has actually made me think Michael C Hall could make a good DD after all. Although why would a blind man be reading a newspaper? :L

Dane Cook for Bullseye? Are you out of your mind? The guy is an absolute fool. He's 4 notches below Colin Farrel.

what till marvel take back the rights of daredevil so that we could see decent film.
I dont think Gens has the right vison from just watchin hitman and that trailer.
i see daredevil has epic tale of a superheroes that also has logical meaning to him or his life.
A DAREDEVIL MOVIE SHOULD BE A CHRIS NOLAN'S BATMAN FOR MARVEL

Eh I prefer to stick with the original story for the movie, this guys vision doesn't sound horrible, but why go away from the comics? We love those stories and those characters, why try to fix what isn't broken?

yeah mate,it would share the same cineamatic universe as the avengers.

but definetly r-rated movies with a "kick ass" level of violence, maybe you could add ghost rider to that line up as well.

Hm. Not bad of a take on the story, but I don't think he would do Daredevil enough justice. For one, he didn't mention anything about Stick or the Hand, which is ESSENTIAL for the character's development. Kingpin could be the main bad guy or set up to be the main in a sequel. They should just take the approach Nolan did with BB and utilize the explanation through flashbacks, but placing them logically at the right time, hence Nolan. And Goyer or Zack Pen should script it. Worthington as Matt? Eh, any white guy could play that role, so that isn't my concern.

For a director, he sure sucks at english wording lol. Is he foreign? That could explain it, but if he's american, wow haha.

Btw, he has no room to talk, cause Hitman sucked so much ass.

No to the DD reboot, it isn't nessary at all. Bring Affleck back as Murdock/Daredevil. He made sense for playing the part as a blind-man from Hell's Kitchen. And besides we all know there Won't be a DD Movie, until someone comes along with a great script and a awesome story; that will countinue the story of: Matt Murdock and Daredevil!
