First Look At Tom Hardy On The Set Of The Dark Knight Rises

A blogger has posted a pic online which features a bulked up, shaven headed Tom Hardy on the set of TDKR. Check out what might be our first look at how Hardy will appear as Bane..

Me and Tom Hardy (Bane) on set on the new Batman film!

Oh my god! He DOES have a shaved head! And he looks HUGE again.

Although no details have been given on the exact location of the set where the picture was taken, and cameras haven't "officially" rolled on the production yet, the general consensus seems to be that this is legit. So has Hardy bulked up enough for Bane do you think?

Wow either that other dude is seriously huge or Hardy still has some work to do. I mean he's big, but not big enough yet.

He looks so imposing; He just looks like an intense guy but in a good way. His casting in this movie just made it that much better!!!

I liiike, bet his fight scenes will be animalistic.

@HulkPool
I wouldn't be so sure about that, chances are that venom in this film is going to be an substance that improves strength and makes him pumped but not literally making his muscles grow in front of our eyes.

He has a while left, and he'll be training while acting too to keep up his size.
It'll come to lighting, costume and camera work to emphasis the work he's done.
He'll look mega no doubt.

He's not playing Hugo Strange and that's that.

fan speculation geez.

Why is everybody freaking out?

And for Nolan's realism, he is bulked enough, IMHO.

This is lame..!!! Don't u get that Characters can be changed.. Joker has a bleached face in comics whereas he paints his face in TDK..

So WAIT...!!!!!

AlexDeLarge87 - 4/21/2011, 7:03 AM
He is huge enough! The performance, special effects and Bane´s intense looks replaces the height!:) Plus they can make him look taller in the big screen. The Lord Of The Rings is a good example.

Tom looks EXACTLY like the drug dealer who lives in my building lol. Nice guy.

He looks great. Short & hench like Wolverine.
I know people are gonna go on about his height but this isn't a comic, if you want a guy who looks exactly like Bane, you'll need a wrestler.
And we all know how good they are at acting.

Tom is King

You may be right @zero but I think to make venom in the nolanverse more believable you have to make him grow before our eyes!

i think their going for a realistic approach
Duhdaduh
Duhdaduh - 4/21/2011, 7:08 AM
all im gonna say is they pulled off his height well in Bronson, nolan will do the same for this movie. if he is as huge and menacing as he was in that movie, it will be perfect

to be honest, tom hardy is the thing im most excited about for this movie so far
Ethic
Ethic - 4/21/2011, 7:09 AM
@HulkPool
How would it make it more believable? lol
Nothing in the world does that.
I think it'll be like an adrenaline shot that basically preps all muscles for their full capacity of strength.

We'll see though.
StrangerX
StrangerX - 4/21/2011, 7:09 AM
Soooo... In reality Bane is just some guy with a Napoleon complex.
Duhdaduh
Duhdaduh - 4/21/2011, 7:12 AM
yeah im thinking instead of literally increasing his muscle mass, theyll make the venom spike his adrenaline or something like that...maybe make his veins pop more, make his eyes red and bloodshot, make him more renegade like a crazed rampaging blood thirsty wolf...imo that behavioral increase would be more effective than physcially getting bigger

plus i can see hardy pulling that kind of transformation off really well

TyrannicalOverlord - 4/21/2011, 7:16 AM
Hardy is the perfect choice for Bane. He's listed at 5'10" so the the other guys must be pushing 6'6". Hardy has the calm intesity that will keep a character like Ban from being too over the top as well as give the character some depth rather than just being some hulking brute.

Looking forward to seeing Bane wreak havoc throughout Gotham in an attempt to draw Batman out. If my guess is right, he'll still be looking to raze Gotham to the ground for the League of Shadows and avenge the death of Ras Al Ghul. He'll likely have his own crew to soften the Bat up, as well as use the city's own criminal element against it (Black Mask, Penguin). This movie is going to kick ass.

Protonite - 4/21/2011, 7:20 AM
Why are some of you surprised he looks small? I thought everybody knew he was 5'9". What did you expect? That he might magically grow 10" taller by 'bulking up'?

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass if Bane isn't some overgrown freak. As long as it's a clever character alteration like the Joker was, then I'm fine with it.
Orphix

He looks pretty [frick]ing dangerous in that picture - which is all that matters.

@Weedbeater

Hey guys, I just heard from a reliable source that Hardy is actually playing Batmite! Also, Batman will sport a pink costume for more than half the film as he battles as the incorruptible symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness.

lol, birth of a rumor.

ThomasRochester - 4/21/2011, 7:27 AM
that guy in the pic looks like his is around 6'3 6'4 which comes with a formidable size, but Tom makes him look average in this pic, I think he is seriously jacked :)
PaulRom
PaulRom - 4/21/2011, 7:32 AM
He does seem kinda small for the role. Theyll probably bulk him with either CGI or motion capture.
WingPow
WingPow - 4/21/2011, 7:33 AM
Tom Hardy is listed at 5'10" - 5'11". Also, if you look at the link below (sorry I don't know how to embed), he's relatively the same height as Leo who is consistently listed as 5'11":
http://media.naplesnews.com/media/img/photos/2010/07/13/Britain_Inception_Photocall_t607.jpg

So to address people's concerns, the guy he is pictured with is probabaly 6'4".

I'd pit a ripped up dude that's 5'10" over an out of shape 6'4" anyway.

Sure as you're bornm, Hardy will own this role. Have you seen Bronson?

I don't know guys, I trust Mr. Nolan completely as he hasn't let us down with a Batman flick yet, but he's going to have to do some real movie magic here in order to pull off a Bane thats not going to get crucified by us fanboys (me included). I mean Bane is probably the biggest/strongest and most physically threatening comic book character that hasn't been flashed by gamma rays. This dude isn't even as big as Christian Bale yet, and he's supposed to be the one that can not only stand toe-to-toe with Batman, but breaks him? I have no doubt in my mind that Hardy can pull off the master strategist and intellectual half of Bane, which we have yet to see on screen, but I'm still quite leery on how he's going to pull off the feel of impending doom you get when you look at him.

I think that I may just have a problem with the fact that I myself (6'3" and 220lbs) am bigger than Batman's most physically gifted villain, as Hardy stands 5'10" and maybe (hopefully at least) 200lbs. An before I get told that this is a film adaptation and not a comic book and if he was hulk size it wouldn't be believable, I understand this. I'm not asking for a 1970s version of Arnold Schwarzenegger, but at least someone who looks/stands bigger than the actor playing Batman. I don't even care that he's short, but the fact that it looks like he couldn't beat me at arm wrestling is a little unnerving. Look how they bulked up Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, or even Bale himself in Batman Begins. I'd like to see Hardy at that level, around the same size or a little bigger than he was in Bronson. I think @Zero and @Duh are right on with the venom going to be more like an adrenaline shot which amplifies and maximizes your strength to your bodies limits without showing actual physical growth. If they thats what they do, I hope they at least film the pre-venom scenes first, than have him hit the gym again maxing his reps and dropping the weight so he gets cut beyond belief, a la Stallone in Rocky IV, and then film the the venom scenes so he at least looks 'roided up and on something.

Anyway, I'll say it again, I'm a little skeptical right now and I know I shouldn't be. I'm sure Bane will look threatening on screen and I'll be convinced as soon as I lay eyes on him. Nolan hasn't lead us wrong yet in his Batman world and I'm sure with a little movie magic and some great acting this movie will probably exceed all expectations. Can't wait to see what he makes of it....and also the viral marketing!

Ethic - 4/21/2011, 7:47 AM
@ Jake
If you watch Bronson, I don't know how you could ever say he's not threatening looking.
And he's going to be more pumped than that for sure.
Seriously, I've seen a lot of the guys work and he's a scary guy.

Go watch some UFC and think of that way, it's not all about height in there. Some of the shorter guys are deadly.
Ethic
Ethic - 4/21/2011, 7:49 AM
@Champ6
I love Hugh but the one thing that's annoying about his Wolverine is his lack of ferocity. If he can't channel the real animal in Wolverine then I doubt it would be much different with Bane.
It's not all about height.
Tom is gonna be shit scary.
HulkPool
HulkPool - 4/21/2011, 7:53 AM
@ zero What I meant by believable was that if he has an injection of venom that makes him stonger you should have a physical change on screen to show what it does to his body, in my eyes non comic book readers won't believe it enhances him physically with nothing to show on screen
WingPow
WingPow - 4/21/2011, 7:56 AM
@Jake
ZeroEthic is right. You're worrying about nothing.

Bale is 6'1" and Hardy is 5'10"-5'11". 2-3 inches of height is easy to fix with filming (shoe lifts, camera angles etc.).

Besides, if you want a Batman movie that's embedded in the comics, look elsewhere - you're not going to get it from Nolan.

While Nolan masterfully pulls the essences of the Batman characters and story arcs and translates them to the silverscreen, it's all still grounded very much in reality. I can 110% gaurantee you that the BANE in this movie will not be a towering, fire breathing, masked villain like some of the hardcore fanboys want.

It's just not what Nolan does. Strip Bane down to his very essences and that's what you'll get. Hardy will do great here as will Nolan.

SO what if he's not tall. Nolan is a great film maker and story teller. I wouldn't be skeptical in the least.
HulkPool
HulkPool - 4/21/2011, 7:57 AM
And I'm not talking about making him like the hulk, but I believe it should be something along the lines of adding maybe 30 pounds of muscle added on screen after the venom injection! But in Nolan I trust, no matter what I'm gonna love this movie
TheQuestion
TheQuestion - 4/21/2011, 7:57 AM
@Jake: He looks close to his size in Bronson, which was fine for a pre-serum Bane. If I'm not mistaken, he said it was his goal to be bigger than he was in Bronson, so this picture is a work in progress. But compare this picture to his size in Inception and you'll see he's bulking up nicely. I have faith in Tom, he's a great actor that deserves the benefit of the doubt.
