TDKR: Anne Hathaway Responds To Negative Catwoman Suit Reactions

The first glimpse of Anne Hathaway suited up as (apparently) Catwoman last week was met with mixed reactions to say the least. But speaking to MTV the actress defends the suit, while seemingly confirming that it will indeed be the full outfit..

That first pic of Catwoman really seemed to catch many people off guard. Some set pics of Hathaway's stunt double which revealed a better look at the entire outfit were met with slightly better reactions but the general consensus seems to be that Catwoman doesn't look very cat-like.

Now speaking to MTV Anne Hathaway surprisingly comments on these first reactions. And offers a cryptic clue regarding the leather outfit she is sporting in the picture.

Here is an excerpt from MTV's article..

"I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo]," she said. "And I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh.' "

Now, we're not sure about the "meh" quote, but we will admit to using the phrases "cautiously optimistic," "unflattering" and "underwhelming" in our analysis.

Regardless, Hathaway said that no matter the first impressions, there is a lot more happening with that suit.

"What I am happy to say is, if you didn't like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do," she promised. "And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste."

Now to me that suggests that although we may see more of what the suit "can do"(whatever that means, maybe there are hidden cat claws or something!) the actual look is pretty final. Meaning no cat-cowl. Just my take, what do you guys think?

The major test is, show someone who knows nothing of what this picture is, and ask them who they think that character is, 98 percent of them will say a girl from mission impossible or the matrix not catwoman from batman. FACT.

I think the look is good, it's grown on me. I do hope it has a cat-cowl and maybe some fun extra little features like cat claws, too.

@TheBlackWidow

I think the other 90% is bigger boobs, exposure of clevage, cowl with cat ears and a whip. If those doesn't happen than I have to say, "What other 90%"?

I think she means that is the whole suit, but what she does or the gadgets she has are more like classic Catwoman. I don't like it and I am totally not sold on her as Catwoman,

I love these films but choosing women are not Nolan's strong suit. Holmes was okay and Gyllenhal was a dog! Compared to them Hathaway is a [frick]ing goddess!

tactical gear? looks like a pretty unoriginal skin tight leather outfit, so meh...

but Nolan has let us down yet

I personally like the look. I always relate Catwoman to being a cat-burglar, not a woman with a cat-fetish. I think people will warm up to this wants we see it on-screen in action. Hathaway's comment is abit odd, however. To imply that 90% of comic book fans don't have good taste seems a little harsh to me. But, from her perspective she probably saw the people who didn't fall in love with the new look as "haters".

Well..the studio released the image with expectations of honest opinions, especially from the fans, if we are seeing 10% of what the final suite can do or will be, then I think the reactions are just what they are..honest!! I guess will have to wait and see.

That's what I think. No cat suit at all. They won't even call her catwoman probably.
Monrogue
Monrogue - 8/8/2011, 7:50 PM
Sorry but I just don't see her as a sexy woman and Catwoman should have that sexy quality to her. Hathaway looks like a plain, pasty girl who just doesn't belong in this role.
Greengo
Greengo - 8/8/2011, 7:52 PM
I happen to think I've got good taste, and she still needs a cowl. I bet she'll have one by the end of the movie if not sooner.

kookevin3

The suit looks fine, it's the lack of a cat mask/ears that make it shit IMO. Without a cat mask she isn't Catwoman.
vexfly
vexfly - 8/8/2011, 7:58 PM
uhhh.... ok. I'm trying hard to optimistic here but her word choice for defending the suit just knocked my "good vibes" toward it down by 5%

so does the suit make a mean martini or does it slice deli meat? i mean really... what is she talking about? we've already seen the "mask" she was carrying so we know the odds of a full cowl are slim to none.

I understand the realistic direction but I don't see how a masked man with big pointy ears and a cape running around town fighting crime is any more realistic than a masked woman with big pointy ears running around town committing crime. maybe its just me though
