Chris Evans: We May Wait Until 2014 For Captain America 2, No Cap Cameos In Other Marvel Movies

Speaking to The Playlist, Evans talks about his nine picture deal with Marvel and how it relates to his appearances in other movies besides Captain America. He also gives us his ETA for a sequel to Joe Johnston's movie..

Chris Evans is busy promoting his new movie Puncture but the inevitable Avengers/Captain America questions slip in too of course. In a recent interview with The Playlist the actor gives his guess at when we will see a sequel to Captain America: TFA and reveals that anyone expecting a Cap cameo in another Marvel movie post Avengers may be disappointed.

Here is an excerpt from The article..

Confirming that he’s signed for three “Captain America“ entries and three “Avengers” films, Evans told us, “They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films.” And it could be very expensive for Marvel if Cap shows up in a non-Cap movie. “Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those [other films], it counts as part of the deal. So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, ‘[frick] you, give me $30 million,’ well…they want to avoid that.”

It's not really too surprising considering Marvel's slate looks full for 2013 with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 expected to hit then, as well as (possibly) Ant-Man. Some felt Cap 2 might squeeze in there too but since nothing has been so much as teased about the movie it was always unlikely. Evans also comments on the recent leaked set pics from The Avengers, confirming that what we saw will indeed be a part of the finished film and not extra trailer footage or the infamous "misdirection" ploy that was theorized..

“All the pieces you can find on the internet are action pieces,” Evans says, referring to snapshots of alien weapons and massive property damage. “But nothing out there [as far as photos] is like, ‘That’ll fool ‘em!’ ”

I'm pretty sure Cap 2 and Dr Strange will be Marvel's films in 2014. Would be cool if they squeezed in Ant Man as well.
And I doubt an Avengers sequel will come out anytime before 2015.

I'm sure he said that as a half-joke. Just to drive home the fact that Marvel is just covering their ass...

I say Cap and Black Panther in 2014. I would think they would want to get BP in the universe before Avengers 2(2015).

2014 sounds about right. The standard in Hollywood has always been 3 years, or at least it used to be before people started making 5 and 7 part movies. And considering he's also dueling in the Avengers I'm pretty satisfied. Id rather see Thor 2 anyways.

They could just go back to the 1940's and explore the movie in between the battle montage scenes.

He has a 9 picture deal but said he'd be asking for cash if he made an appearance outside the "three 'Captain America' entries and three 'Avengers' films"? I'm confused.

That would be a smart move by Marvel, not to over expose Cap. They can always cameo other characters such as Scarlet Witch, Namor, or Dr. Strange. This way they build their CBM continuity and a unified film universe.
BlanketMan

Call me naive, but if Marvel (who is already responsible for my THREE biggest box-office hits by far) is already paying me a boatload of cash for CAP and Avengers movies, I'd probably be willing to show up for a scene or two in an IRON MAN or THOR movie for a mighty low rate. I understand Evans looking out for himself, but why not just say "Yeah, I'll show up in whatever movies they ask me to." It's not like such a statement would be legally binding, and it would make him look like more of a team player.

thats not really that far off, we are getting alot of movies from them fast, so i dont mind waiting a couple of years for this.

This is why I hate when Marvel hires actors that don't care about their characters. Evans would only have to spend a day or two on a set to film a cameo and 30 million, he doesn't deserve that.
Supershadowbat
Supershadowbat - 9/22/2011, 8:53 AM
@SuspenseSmith, I understand your point, but like in the comics the heroes are going to have to take on their own crisis solo at times. The team is not always going to be available, others will be off on their own adventures or have personal issues to deal with.

As someone who does freelance contract work, I'm not about to show up and do a few days of free work even for my biggest prior client. That's just not how business works.

Very few actors put in more than six appearances playing the same character... most move on because they want to do other things. I'm glad that they're using Evan's six appearances for meaty parts, rather than cameos (which I don't think would be a good idea anyway, honestly.)
Paulley
Paulley - 9/22/2011, 9:04 AM
Silly thing is that most other actors are happy to donate some of there time down on a set for a day.. especially if they are friends of the director or main cast just for a cameo... and most of them dont actually get paid anything.

Tho i guess a simple and easy way to get over that is to simply film something (cap running down a street.... or speaking directly at camera) during the filming of say Cap 2... then actually using said footage on a screen during another film (i.e. a background news report etc).

I guess though its why Marvel likes unknown or actors who are on hard times cus it much easier to get them to do large deals.

Well I guess if they ever did do an Agent(s) of Shield movie or something, a cameo might come in handy, like an opening sequence with Cap and a bunch of Shield agents stopping some baddie, then break off into the individual story of the main character, like Coulson, Widow or Hawkeye.

I think they will start introducing new characters with some individual movies that will lead into more AVENGERS flicks. We are lucky getting RDJ, Hemsworth, Evan, Renner and etc. in this AVENGERS and maybe the next, but the 3 and 4th movies will have a different cast. Renner maybe around for 4th but i doubt it. By the 6 or 7th movie we may see She Hulk, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Ultron, and Squirrel Girl.

Wasn't it reported last year that Chris Evans wasn't getting much money for this franchise? I can't shake the feeling that I heard he only got $300,000 for Captain America.

Anyways, if Marvel WAS lowballing him in terms of money for his six picture deal, I'd expect him to ask them to give him a fat check to continue playing Captain America. It's not about whether he respects the character or the franchise or even the director/actors he works with.. I guess it's about the principle.

Plus, if Orlando Bloom can get $1 million for a minute long cameo in Hobbit, I'm sure Evans would expect SOME cash for more movies.

@Maddmonk Scarlett Witch is with FOX isn't she, since she's an X-Men related character? Same with Quicksilver @Grounded

@Nolanite well with Iron Man apparently being an espionage film, I guess he can work alone or maybe with some help from SHIELD. With the Cap sequel rumoured to be going back to the unseen bits from WWII, no cameos there either. If he's staying in the present to debut Winter Soldier, then it'll be a personal mission of his, again maybe with SHIELD intel. And with THOR II rumoured to be entirely set on Asgard, no need for cameos there.

The way I'd do it is set up Mandarin in Iron Man 3 to be the villain for Avengers 2, by having him be a non-powered evil mastermind type villain who finds the ten rings throughout that film, so he ends up as the magic-wielding supervillain therefore making the reformation of the Avengers a necessity. Leave Thanos for a third film to set up the cosmic Marvel stuff (I hope he doesn't show up in Avengers!)

I say NAY! Make him atleast cameo in Iron man, seeing how it's SUPPOSE to relate to the epic storyline Demon in a bottle.
