As we already reported, The Clone Wars cartoon series will be bringing back fan favorite Sith Lord Darth Maul after he was sliced in two by Obi Wan Kenobi at the end of The Phantom Menace. Now Nuke The Fridge have word on who will be providing the voice for the character, none other than Starkiller himself Sam Witwer.

The actor has already done some voice work for the series and will be well known to CBMers having starred in shows such as Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Dark Angel and Being Human. It's not clear when exactly Maul will be making his debut on the show but we will keep you posted with any updates that come out way.

I like him as an actor but I'd kind of prefer they use Ray Park seeing as I can't imagine he'd be that expensive and he has a great voice.

Witwer!

He's already been on Clone Wars at The Son (Alter of Mortis) and was also the voice of Palpatine in the Force Unleashed games. He loves Star Wars, obviously.

I think Starkiller deserves his own show. At the very least.

He's a terrific actor. Was pissed off when he was killed on BSG, even though his character had started to become a bit of a dick.

@ Ror... Agreed! How the good die young.

He was also on a few episodes of Dexter in season 3.

The guy is actually an amazing voice actor. He was also the Emperor in the first Force Unleashed.

No! They should have just made Maul mute. Scarier that way instead of having three lines that make you ask why didn't he say more?

I originally reported this news last week on TheForce.net. It was even picked up by Witwer's official fan site afterwards. As far as I know though no confirmation has been given. Witwer himself said that the character he voices may not appear until next season. I believe that is him just trying to throw off the speculation. I spoke with Witwer at Dragon*Con last month and he said he got a call while he was driving and when he was asked to voice this particular character he almost wrecked his car from being so excited.

If lucas had the right mind he would give someone else a chance to do a star wars film eg force unleashed

@SKOne Ray Park didn't actually voice Darth Maul in Episode 1. He was the body and actor, but they dubbed over his voice with another actor in Post:

Peter Serafinowicz was the voice of Darth Maul in the movie (all 3 lines that he had), and if you don't recognize the name, he played the roommate Pete, in Shaun of the Dead.

@wards you'd be surprised how good a voice actor he is, his Starkiller sounds nothing like his own voice, and his voice acting as The Emperor in Force Unleashed 2 was almost indistinguishable from Ian McDirmid (the actor who plays the Emperor, I think I got his name right...)

@grif what did knock off maul look like? I dont watch this so I wouldnt know, but I saw a poster in a music/film/game store today that had what looked like Maul, except the red in his skin looked like it had a slight orange tint. But it gave a much better look at his full body (he was topless I think, showing his body tattoos, and his lower half seemed to be in his costume from Phantom Menace)

Fanboys make me sick...no matter what Lucas does, you'd find fault with it. Waah, they killed off Maul. Waah, they brought back Maul. Waah, I wish it was the original guy doing the voice even though I don't realize it wasn't Ray Park in the first place. Waah, Witwer sucks. Waah, let someone else do a SW movie. Geez, get over yourselves. The guy is an amazing voice talent and we're lucky to have him in the SW universe. It's "fans" like these that give us real geeks a bad name.

Total crap, Should be Peter Serafinowicz.

Why not keep the original??...

@PsyBoy it's cheaper and easier to get Sam Witwer than Peter Serafinowicz, since Pete lives in England and Clone Wars is made in the USA. They'd have to pay to fly him out, pay him movie star fees, and even then he may not want to do it. Witwer has more links with Star Wars through spin-off material, and is a damn good voice actor, and he'd be cheaper, so it's the only way that really makes sense.

@DarthBryan agree completely man, the only time we should complain is when Lucas does something stupid or unnecessarily screws around with the films when he re-releases them (such as making Darth Vader practically cry as he kills the Emperor or when they replaced the original Sebastian Shaw force ghost with Hayden Christensen at the end of Episode VI).

Don't got a problem with Witwer, great in Force Unleashed, but would it have killed them to get Maul's original actor?

Jerec350 - 10/18/2011, 1:24 PM
Why does everyone keep asking for Ray Park to return to this role? He only did the acting/fighting. Peter Serafinowicz provided the voice. It's like saying bring back David Prowse to provide the voice for Darth Vader.

Peter Serafinowicz is an amazing voice actor. Just watch all his impressions on youtube. I also like him in Spaced and Shawn of the Dead..

This article is now being linked from the official SW site so I assume that its basically confirmed now. Yay! So glad to see Witwer voicing one of my favorite characters. Witwer is a fantastic actor and was a very outgoing and classy guy to meet in person. When talking to him you can definitely tell he is passionate about STAR WARS. 2012 is definitely shaping up to be the year of Maul. The cartoon, new toys, his mug on the packaging again, the 3-D version of TPM, and now his image on the back of the Darth Plagueis novel that reads "Darth Plagueis may have been the most powerful Sith Lord that ever lived. But was he the only one who never died?"

@TheMercwithamouth

The "smartass" things I "said" about Plagueis was quoted from the back cover of the upcoming book. I was not voicing my opinion on the subject. Go to TheForce.net and check it out. I was simply saying that it appears that Darth Maul is going to receive a strong push in 2012.

They should have used Peter Serafinowicz. Voice actors can record their lines from anywhere in the world, even at their own home studios and send the audio over the internet. Darth Maul had an incredible sinister voice even with only 3 lines in Phantom Menace, and the new voice sucks ass. Not even close. The only reason I can think of is Peter was trying to charge too much money? Or Lucas is senile.
