From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, “John Carter" is a sweeping action adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film tells the story of John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter discovers that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, and will be released on March 9, 2012.

Sorry, but this movie looks pretty mediocre, at best. Something about the setting or the fact that the source material is way outdated. Meh. Not one iota of anticipation on my part.

Hey TommyM, have you read the books? Probably not. Read them and then realize that they were written nearly 100 yrs ago and think about what technology there was back then andyou realize ERB had an amazing imagination.

marvel Can't say it better myself. :)

Yes, this movie is indeed shaping up very well, and as a guy who has zero knowledge regarding the material source, I expect this to make very interested toward the whole material stuff, which so far it has succeeded to do.

I've read the first 5 John Carter of Mars books (Barsoom). Woola looks fantastic. That's pretty much the way I imagined it when I was reading the first book. Woola starts out being a really tough kind of guard dog/reptile thing, and Carter ends up befriending it to the point where it becomes loyal to the death to him. Overall, I'm hopeful that they did a good job on this film . . . but of course everyone is wearing a lot more clothes than in the books.
