We haven't heard anything on this one for a while, it was believed to be dead in the water in fact. But now reports are coming in that Chronicle director Josh Trank is in talks to bring one of Spider-Man's most popular villains to the screen in his own movie.
LA Times report..
The studio is negotiating with Josh Trank, the hot director of this winter’s found-footage hit "Chronicle," to take the reins of the Spidey spin-off, said a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly. Sony was not immediately available for comment.
As we know, Trank was rumored to be in line to helm Fox's
Fantastic Four reboot. The director frequently denied this and it appears he wasn't just playing coy.
Hunger Games director Gary Ross was the last to be linked to a solo
Venom movie back in 2009 when the project had a script by Jacob Estes. That story was said to cast Venom in a more heroic light (as he has been in the comics from time to time) as opposed to the vicious villain from
Spider-Man 3 for example. But sources report that Sony won't be going that way and will seek a new writer. I wouldn't bank on Topher Grace reprising the role either..but ya never know! It is not known if this will tie directly in with
The Amazing Spider-Man or not, more info if and when we get it.
