Back in 2000 Nicolas Cage's prized issue of Action Comics #1 was stolen. In 2011 is turned up among the contents of an abandoned storage locker, going on to set sales records in November when it sold for $2.1 million at auction. It's a story most comic book fans know, and now it seems the rest of the world may get to see it unfold on the big screen.
From THR..
Lionsgate has picked up Action No. 1, a heist comedy from writers and Reno 911 creators Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon. The duo is also producing along with Peter Principato and Paul Young. The story centers on a group of nerds who attempt to steal Cage's copy of Action Comics No. 1, the landmark 1938 comic that introduced the world to the Man of Steel.
It just get's more bizarre, as Jason Statham's name has popped up in connection with the project. Although THR reckon that he is not involved now, the role he may have played was uncertain..meaning he could have actually ended up playing Nic Cage. What I wouldn't give to see that. In fact the only thing better than that would be if Cage played himself, but although the part of Cage was written with the real Cage in mind, word is Cage won't be playing Cage. Got that? I'm off to watch Bad Lieutenant.
