COMICS: Preview Of AVENGERS VS X-MEN #2 Confirms Which Side WOLVERINE Is On

The upcoming Marvel event is one of the most anticipated in some time, and here we have a couple of unlettered pages of John Romita Jr's artwork. We also (seem) to have confirmation of which team Wolverine will be fighting for..

The second issue of Avengers VS X-Men from Jason Aaron and John Romita Jr hits shelves April 18th, and here we have a couple of unlettered pages from the comic. As you can see they feature that pretty hilarious "fight" between Colossus and Red Hulk, but also and interesting revelation. Fans had been wondering which team Wolverine would show his allegiance to, and with a few "what if" type covers depicting various different scenarios it was hard to pinpoint. But in the second panel of the second page below we can clearly see (as noted by Bleeding Cool) that, for now at least, ol Wolvie is on the side of The Avengers..

Panel 5 is pretty good. He's done some good hulk work in the past, but JRJr just isn't suited for the avengers.

Wolverine just doesn't like Cyc's ideas. That's why he's not with the X-Men, right?

Wolverine did not side with the x-men becuase he is a piece of shit who always chooses to oppose Cyclops. Wolverine even helped the mutants protect Hope in the first place, and now he decides to oppose them?

Cap came to Wolverine and appealed to him to fight with The Avengers because they would seem to be in the right I guess. I'm sure Wolverine will switch sides eventually though, and heal the wounds created in Schism.

TheMyth - 3/23/2012, 8:24 AM
I haven't read this or Schism so I'm a bit behind on comics. That said, from what I've seen this event is foreshadowing th return of the Phoenix. If that is the case, I can see why Wolverine would side with the Avengers. Otherwise, he is a traitor and I've lost loads of respect for the character as well as the ones currently writing him.

should read x-men schism, definetly the best x-men story in a while.

brutal fight between cyclops & wolverine.

Don't get this. Is it a Royal Rumble type of arc?

What really makes me mad is Wolverine siding with with Avengers leaves the mutants who sided with him in lurch.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 3/23/2012, 8:34 AM
Additionally, Magneto has taken on the entire Avengers team before. He alone could take out half of them all at once before Thor stopped him. This is the biggest reason this event is just silly to me. I LOVE the Avengers, but I love the X-Men more. The deck is stacked against the Avengers, there are just too many X-Men, they'd be overwhelmed easily. I'm sure this has been debated to the ground so I'll spare the semantics. If the X-Men aren't the decisive winners in this event, I'll likely avoid comics altogether for a while.

I've hated Wolverine since X-Men 3 and this only made it worse -_-. On a side note i wish Marvel could've gotten Mark Bagley to do AvX instead of JRJr.His artwork sucks to me.

Its weird, Wolverine used to be this loner who could barely work with the X-Men. It took him awhile and a lot of missions to get used to being a team player. Now he is on any team that gives him a free mug. Regardless of his hate for Cyclops the [racial slur] should side with the X-Men. BTW This Juggernaut powered Colosus should woop the red hulk. But I have a feeling this is gonna be all Avengers because of the movie and its the all american team. X-Men 4 life!!!

Wow, no one's even read the comic yet, but everyone's already yelling 'off with his head!" it always seems crazy, but i guess people really do think like this.

The whole 'Schizm' thing was just based on a silly premise.

Wolverine? The guy who would kill at the drop of a dime? The guy who took young teen Shadowcat and turned her into a ninja-killer? The guy who took Jubilee under his wing? The guy who made Armor an X-Man?
Him?? All of a sudden he's "against" kids going into battle? He's "against" the notion that they might have to kill in order to survive? Baloney.

Did he all of a sudden forget that the original TEENAGED X-Men were in a constant death battle with Magneto, the Juggernaut, Brotherhood, Sentinels, etc?

Just crappy, crappy reasoning.

As for this upcoming event, I'm wondering if they'll pull Jean Grey back into the land of the living at the last minute. I don't care how 'Superman' they've made Thor over the past couple of years.... not even Dr Strange or Scarlet Witch could stop an elemental force of the Universe.

Besides, I'm kinda tired of Emma Frost. She flirts with [or worse] damned near every macho male in comicdom. Absolutely no respect for Cyclops. If it's not Namor it's Tony Stark, or Sebastian Shaw, or whomever. Jean Grey actually made the guy happy. With Frost it's like everyone treats him like he's a cuckold.
TheSisko
TheSisko - 3/23/2012, 9:19 AM
What he feels right? What makes you think for a second Wolverine gives a damn about what is right or the fact that mutants are an endangered species. If he cared he would had sided with Cyclops or at the very least let Hope make her own decision and be aware of the consequences. No this is Wolverine, back to doing what he usually does. Opposing Cyclops because Jean didn't choose him.

I bet Patientzero would know a thing or two about racist little pricks, because he seem to be one himself. Wolverine is showing no loyalty at all. Mutants are all but an extinct people and he's jerking off the avengers!? Why wolvie?

I agree with the Emissary here. Wolverine's character is just flawed.... I'm still curious as to why Cap even let him on the team. He's notorious for being a killer with a bad attitude. Unless he was thinking that "uh-oh, one day we might have to go to war with the X-Men," I just don't see how a guy as honorable as Cap would tap Wolverine.

And just like 'Schizm', the premise of this battle is kinda wacky.

How can either the X-Men OR the Avengers fuss when they've both had to support/defend their wild-card? Phoenix and the Scarlet Witch. They wanna kill the one but defend the other? Nutty hypocricy for a buncha heroes.

Yeah, I'm gonna buy the thing cuz I love a good super-hero brawl. It just seems that the writers nowdays have either gotten lazy or haven't really read all the issues & character development. Hell, me & my buddies know these characters better than some of the writers now days.

Colossus used to be solid steel, now he only has steel-skin? Prof X used to be the most powerful telepath, now Emma Frost is on his level? Thor is so super-tough now that he can somehow dodge the Surfer's faster than light reflexes & COSMIC awareness?

Baloney, guys.

Wolverine was never an indiscriminate killer, just quick to kill - since he was with the x-men, he's always been a hero. obviously, he has his own morality formed from the days he was in japan. you people go to such extremes it's incredible and have such seething hatred over a fictional comic book.
If you don't like Wolverine, whatever. I don't like Cap, I think he's bland and boring.
And who knows what degree Wolverine is being a 'traitor' - Blind loyalty to ANY group is not a trait to admire.
ThickMag
ThickMag - 3/23/2012, 9:46 AM
The whole point of Schism was setting up AvsX. So, obviously Wolvie was always going to side with the Avengers. And this probably has to do with the whole point of Schism, choosing the side of Prof. X thinking (for mutants and humans to live in harmony) or the Magneato way (mutants being superior and taking their rightful place). Now the question is, where will Beat side?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/23/2012, 9:47 AM
I sometimes wonder if some people actually read comics or just look at the pictures. Wolverine not honorable? Wolverine is a violent, rage fueled weapon, capable of making the decisions others won't and yes he most certainly is a killer. But aside from Cap he probably has the strongest moral compass in the Marvel Universe. In every incarnation of the character, by anyone that has ever written him (obviously excluding the times he was possessed or berserker etc) this has been a staple. His belief in what's right has even forced him to disobey orders, which will always be the difference between he and soldier boy Cyclops.

thank god! @thewolfx,

Someone finally gets that wolverine is allowed to make a CHOICE as to what side he thinks is doing the right thing! Just because he's a mutant doesn't force him to side with the X-men! Not to act like a over protective parent and all, "if all the X-men decided to jump off a bridge, wolverine should do so too right?"
ughhh, god damn it people use your brains

What is the disagreement in this series about, anyway? I can't imagine that the Avengers are trying to cause the extinction of mutant kind, so why do people think Wolverine is a traitor to his race?
TheSisko
TheSisko - 3/23/2012, 10:01 AM
So what now the X-Men as usual when it comes to the Avengers have to be wrong? There species is dying and the Phoenix can fix that. This is Avengers Crusade all over again. Scarlet Witch lived and the world did not end, let Phoenix live.

That art is absolutely horrible. This is supposed to be Marvel's flagship "event" for 2012, featuring two of their most popular teams. You would think they would use one of their top artists on this, not someone who's trying out for Super Hero Squad.
