Ayelet Zurer stepped into the role of Kal-El's Kryptonian Mother Lara Lor-Von when Julia Ormond dropped out, and in an interview with ShockYa the statuesque actress speaks for the first time about her work on the movie. She doesn't go into any specifics plot or character wise, but praises Zack Snyder and co and - as other cast members have already noted - mentions an "edginess" to the film..

ShockYa: And what can you share about the upcoming “Man of Steel,” in which you play Superman’s birth mother?

AZ: I think it’s going to be an awesome movie, really. I loved Zack (Snyder). I think he’s a very cool and creative director, and I think the executive producers who developed the project are really on top of it because it’s a major movie and they’ve invested so much in it — not just money, but time. So I think the edginess of the direction that Zack took is something that’s really going to pay off. I have some scenes with Russell Crowe. And I love the costumes. I would steal one if I could. I don’t know if I’d have anywhere to go in it, but they’re nice, and overall it was such nice, nice work.

American audiences will know Zurer from her roles in the likes of Vantage Point, Angels And Demons and Munich. She will appear next in darling Company.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world's beacon of hope - Superman.

Man Of Steel is scheduled to hit theaters June 14th, 2013.

Nice. Glad to hear some news from this movie. We've had a lot of Avengers news, and I don't wanna burn myself out on that.

Well Avengers news is to be expected as release nears, I expect a teaser trailer of MoS by the end of the summer blockbuster season. Although a teaser will be perhaps no more than some quotes and the 'S' symbol with no actual footage.

They did the Joker, Loki and if I could be bothered I am sure other characters have been done reused with great success.

Hey Ror, just thought I'd point out she's playing Kal-El's birth mother, Lara Lor-Van

Anyway, I really hope some sort of trailer is attached to TDKR, I really need to see something soon to get a feel for the film

Ironman53 I think you are right it will be with TDKR, but in an odd way I would stick in front of something like Twlight or Avengers as Warner Bros must know that the Batman crowd probably won't need selling on this movie as much as the outside public who may not even be aware a) it is happening and b) it is a reboot and not a returns sequel. However as mentioned I expect a 1minute teaser in front of TDKR, if we even get a shot of Cavill in costume we'd be lucky, but just don't see it.

Why didn't they make her Lois Lane?

She is certainly beautiful.

I don't like the word "edginess" being thrown around when describing a Superman movie though.

That's OK for Batman, but this Superman.

Na edginess is fine, however people awesome edgy means dark, which is doesn't.

@nowthereaBATman- Amen brother! Diane Lane is by far the hottest women in the entire movie!

@mgeoff- Well, certainly a LITTLE 'edginess' couldn't hurt the film, i'm sure. Something different needed to be done with Superman's film franchise. It was literally on life-support before Nolan and Snyder came along. Snyder is a fan. He won't make Supes into a dark, broading figure like Batman. But certainly his take on Superman won't be such a chump either- like the last one was in Superman Returns. We've been overdue for a film where Supes could finally cut loose and finally.actually USE his power and whoop some ass for a change. If they continued Superman down the same path he's BEEN on, we'd be getting yet another boring, lame 'Superman Returns' film.

'Edginess' sounds good to me =D

LP4 - 4/19/2012, 5:33 PM
Furthermore @mgeoff- It will still retain the classic feel of a Superman film BUT for the first time ever on screen, he will be modernized and more pertinent to THESE modern days rather than old donner days. This film will have a hint of darkness but it won't go overboard and it won't be like another Batman film. This will be a Superman who will also FIGHT for a change.

This is just the formula Superman has sorely lacked in his films and it is just the formula to make him not only more relevant but also more neccessary in a society that tends to...'reject' the notion of Superman being 'cool'

I think Ormond was a really good choice

Zurer has a good look too:

And no to Lois Lane for her - no way. I can see her as Lara though.

@nowtheresaBATman- I agree man, let's hope for the best!!!

@Scooby- I didn't like Ormond. My favorite casting choice for Lara was actually Connie Nielson

hmm . . . I can see that, I think Zurer has a certain gentleness about her that's going to work well for Lara

@nowtheresaBATman yeah, I think she will be fine in that part. I just can't wait for this movie. Supes was always my fav. I lost track for a while - and then when I started re-exploring the Superman world, stuff suddenly started making sense again . . . as cheesy as that sounds. Superman is the greatest [frick]ing thing ever!
Knightrider
Knightrider - 4/19/2012, 7:19 PM
After watching The Fighter, I am sure Amy Adams will be fine as Lois Lane, I think Amy is remembered for doing these "Princess" type roles, which to be fair she has done a lot, but she can do gritty. I am sure she would not have been hired if she wasn't going to be good enough to be Lois, just as much as I am sure they hired this lady as the mum because in the context of the film it will (Hopefully) make sense.

Just to be clear, edgy doesn't mean dark, it has different meanings of course, from trend-setting, daring, unconventional and innovative. The first definitions I found of edgy was being in a tense state, also something that's provocative: meaning exciting, stimulating and provoking.
