As a big fan of both Tarantino and Westerns in general, to say I'm looking forward to this is an understatement. There is also an interview with Foxx so click the link back to EW below to check it out. Django Unchained also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Don Johnson, Anthony LaPaglia, and Walton Goggins.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International.

The only QT movie I really disliked was Death Proof, and even that had its bright spots. Everything else I've loved/really liked.

Wasn't familiar with this one. Nice cast, with the exception of my dislike for DiCaprio. As long as he gets his head chopped or shot off, I can deal with watching his mug. :-P

I was doing fine reading the synopsis until it got to the part about training slaves for battle sport. I jam just so tired of the underground battle storyline theme that tends to show up in movies and television shows. I'll need to see more.

Am I the only person who thinks this movie has a bad release date?I'm really looking forward to this, but it's going to have a touchy subject matter, be brutal as hell and I hear an ungodly amount of N-bombs.Is that really how one wants to top off Christmas Day?

Sold on this one!!! Tazmaniak @ Releasing this on Christmas day is 100% a Tarantino thing to do. Tarantino is all about giving the audience that unsettling awkward feeling while watching his movies. Fans will understand.

with that said dont expect a big opener on this one lol. more like a steady rise over the weekend.

Ranger14@ I bet its just one part of the movie. Meant to underline the batshit crazy stuff people did to the slaves.

I'm not a huge fan of Tarantino and his complete "homage" (ripping off) of everything that's come before him but will be forced to watch this just because Walton Goggins is in it. Great actor. Also, he's finally making a film about a genre he repeatedly rips off so it might be good.

I didn't know Sasha Baron Cohen was in this? Any idea of the part he plays? That also may be the price of admission. Daytime, early bird price but still.

I hope it has a great soundtrack and Tarantino pays homage for the quite moments of Spaghetti westerns.

@ Ranger14, the "underground battle storyline" isn't a major part of the story. You're not going to see Django fighting anyone in a ring or anything like that.

PeterDarker121 - 4/26/2012, 11:01 AM
@Teabag You're KILLING it today...lmao

@Darantino You're right...I've read the leaked script a few times now, and even if a THIRD of what's in it makes it to the screen, it's guaranteed to be his most controversial movie to date. For him to have the IRON BALLS to release this on CHRISTMAS DAY is just one of the many reasons I'll always have a life-long man crush on the guy.

By the way, is it just me, or are his scripts always better than his movies? As much as a FILM GOD QT is to me, he's an even better writer. The complete KILL BILL script is a friggin masterpiece of storytelling and action, and much more intense, brutal and engrossing than the 2 films. Same goes for the Inglorious Basterds script. It sucks that he either chooses or is forced to edit them down for an R rating. Here's hoping Django is not only UNCHAINED, but UNCUT.

PeterDarker121 - 4/26/2012, 11:15 AM
NOT mine (I wish), but speaking of 'Inglorious Basterds', Quentin mentioned that Sgt. Fury was one of his favorite comics that he read in the 70's. In a radio interview after the film was released, he cited this issue as having been one of the major influences in the story. Some would say it's a complete rip off, but the similarities are definitely there(Aldo Raine has a scar on his neck, Fury wears an eye patch among other things). It's a GREAT issue, nonetheless.

Okay, so now I only have to get over my strong dislike for DiCaprio. :-P
PeterDarker121
PeterDarker121 - 4/26/2012, 1:27 PM
@Ranger14 I'm with you on that one. Yes, he's talented, but I swear he's just NOT connected to me in the majority of roles he's been in. (I discount "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" because outside of 'My Left Foot' 'Rain Man' and Billy Bibbitt from 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest', I hate the fact that actors nowadays can get a "great actor pass" for playing the afflicted). lol

That being said, I loved his performance in 'Revolutionary Road' by Sam Mendes a couple of moons ago, and under Tarantino's direction, I'm sure we'll see a side of him we haven't seen yet.
