Could There Be Redemption For Loki? Tom Hiddleston Talks THOR 2

The actor discusses how the villainous Loki's relationship with his brother Thor might evolve beyond The Avengers, and offers insights into Thor 2 Could Loki be forgiven for his bad deeds?..

In Thor, Loki was the villain of course, but you could sort of see where he was coming from - at least at first. In The Avengers that pretty much went out the window as the character really showed his evil side and did some pretty unforgivable things. But still, one or two moments when he is speaking to Thor make you think there could be some good left deep down in him. That definitely seems to be the opinion of the man who play shim, Tom Hiddleston. While speaking to Empire the actor speaks about the relationship between Loki and Thor, as well as where things may progress in Thor 2. He also comments on Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster..



"It's part of the thrill of the character. Thor and Loki are defined by each other. Thor's reason for being in The Avengers is that Loki is on Earth and he has to get him back. What'll be interesting in Thor 2 is how it takes what happens now as a springboard. Natalie Portman will be back in as Jane Foster and the relationship between Thor and Jane will be extended, expanded and developed."


And what about redemption for The God Of Mischief? Hiddleston reveals that both he and Chris Hemsworth would like to see that happen at some point..

"What Chris Hemsworth and I would love is to be allowed to have a moment - maybe not in Thor 2 but at some stage - when Loki is forgiven."


What do you guys think? I know many of you haven't seen The Avengers yet, but you may have heard about some of the bad deeds Loki gets up to in it. You think this character could be believably redeemed in the future? Should he be?

Use him as like a Hannibal Lecter character and have Thor talk to him about the new villain.

That'll be a touching scene to see. But I don't think it'll happen like that. Maybe in the movie they can have a scene between Loki, Thor, and Odin. Odin talks to Loki and reflects the events that happened in both Thor and The Avengers. He eventually forgives Loki and Thor forgives him, too. Further into the movie, Loki acts all innocent and decieves both Thor and Odin; still wanting to rule Asgard (or Midgard). Maybe during that point of the movie, we can introduce Enchantress and Exicutioner. Again, maybe that'll happen. We'll see soon enough, my friends. :)

Theres got to be a moment in say Avengers 2 where Loki has the choice to do the right thing or the wrong thing, and he does the right, only to gain Thor's trust just so he can become #1 again. Gotta be.

I'm curious as to what the Thor 2 story is gonna be about. If Jane Foster is in it, then Thor is on earth. I know a lot of people were throwing ideas around on this site about him visiting other realms.

Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers could be a good format to start with. Loki's still messed up, but when it comes to crunch time he can't kill Thor, has a realization of his own twisted path...and then Thor kicks his ass

So many good scenes. So many great lines. So much fanboy action. And then there's the mid-credit teaser...

Thor always forgives Loki. I read comic books. That's why Kid Loki is running around the Marvel Universe right now in Journey into Mystery because Thor loves and always forgives him.

@batlizard11 - Ohhh, gotcha. Now that you've mentioned it, I would like to see that with Loki.
He probably gets back Odin's and Thor's trust so that it looks like he's back to goody ol' Loki. He helps captures whatever big cosmic/Asgardian threat so he could get them out of the way. After all of that, he plans an attack on Odin to steal the Odin force so that he can rule all of Agard and the Nine Realms.
That maybe too much to put in one film, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

Amora the Enchantress and Skurge The Executioner as the main villains. but they've been concocting evil schemes for Earth and only Balder knows of their plans and whereabouts. But his soul is with Hela after dying on Earth of old age from protecting the tesseract. Thor and Sif head to Helheim to bargain for Balder's soul in exchange Hela demands for them to retrieve Surtur's sword. So they venture off to another realm. Nidavellir to ask the dwarves if they know anything and encounter Ulik and the trolls. venture to Alfheim but are warned by the Light elves.

Loki escapes and steals the Eternal Flame and Infinity Gauntlet to bring about Ragnarok on Asgard and Armageddon to Earth.

Once Balder is revived, Thor finds out that Amora and Skurge have given powers to four humans and have started attacking Bronxton. Jane's life is in danger. Thor whispers a chant on Mjolnir and hurtles it towards Earth. "Whosoever wields this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." But he actually throws it towards Donald Blake and Jane Foster.

The relationship between Thor and Jane is literally the least interesting thing in the entire mythology of Thor. If they continue to push her, she'll just feel like an anchor dragging the movie down, and preventing us from seeing the awesome setting and interesting characters.

Also, Enchantress would be a terrible main villain for Thor 2. A villain who's whole motivation is to have Thor's babies isn't very threatening. They need someone who's at least at step up in threat from Loki.

okay the only knowledge I have about the Thor franchise is based on the film. Can someone tell me if Loki is actually a blood brother of Thor or did Odin really take him from the Frost Giants planet when he was a baby in the comics?

Hmmm... The idea of Loki redeeming himself, and then fighting alongside Thor in "THOR 2" (or the Avengers, for that matter, in THAT sequel) seems like a pretty epic one.

He can't be fully redeemed for the things he has done.

I would like to see Loki and Thor work together against a common enemy. That would be cool to see.

i to agree that loki cannot be redeemed anytime soon, i like the Hannibal approach @Ha1frican stated (btw i love those movies). I imagine now loki will offer information on who aided him on his conquest of earth, maybe get his butt exiled to some realm. it woulld be cool if loki watches a battle between surtur vs odin and thor from the side lines then aids them in defeating surtur..but loki is still not redeemed in the eyes of thor and odin whom has fallen at that point. This would lead loki to be pushed to the breaking point or some sht like that. 2-3 movies later he hails in ragnarock or a war across the nine realms.

my only question is , should loki apear at all in thor 2 i mean it would feel like if thor's story revolves around loki wich it doesnt however i love tom hidleston and i want to keep seing him around seems like quite the pikle
