Has Spidey's Origin Been Drastically Altered In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN?

Some apparent hints in the new trailer have led Devin Farcai of Badass Digest to spill some info he has been sitting on. According to him there is much more to Parker's powers than the bite from the spider. Possible SPOILER ahead..

It's been clear in all of the trailers for The Amazing Spider-Man that this take on the character would be delving much more into the mysteries surrounding his past and his parents. But the latest trailer really hammers it home, and this has prompted Devin Farcai to reveal something he has (apparently) gleaned from some reliable sources..

Three sources have told me this, but I held it. I didn't see the point in running it now, when the movie has been shot and edited and is ready to go. Nothing can be changed. But then the new trailer hits today and all but spells this out, so what the hell, here we go:

Spider-Man's origin has been changed in The Amazing Spider-Man. The spider bite no longer gives Peter powers, it rather activates something already in his genetic structure. Something placed there by his father. Peter Parker is no longer super-powered by chance, but rather by design.

Now, this may not sound like too big a change but think about it. In many ways the whole point of the character is that he is an every-day kid gifted with these great powers by sheer chance, and is then forced to come to terms with and take responsibility for them, growing into a hero in the process. If the above alteration is true (and Farcai claims his sources are on the level) then this puts a very different spin on things. So what do you think guys, deal breaker? Or an exciting addition to the character's origin?

@Wildaniel- Hulk was my first thought too.

I really hope they have a good reason for changing it.

I don't care if movies drastically change the origin. As long as the movie is good, and the character resembles Spider-man I'm all for it.

If you want something that is truthful to the comics, read a [frick]ing comic.

The comics should be used as a foundation to build something unique, fresh and exciting.

if that's true?...that's epic.......EPIC FAIL!

it could very well be the untold story that should have never been told! lol

I have read, reread, watched, heard, and yes, even smelled Spider-Man's origin a bazillion times, so if they want to change it up (and it totally sounds like Ang Lee Hulk origin) that is lame. If the action kicks as much ass as the newest trailer showed, I wouldn't care if his parents were shot dead by Joe Chill.

Actually that sounds about right. Because it explains Peter's parents involvement with Oscorp and not to mention it explains the glass of the spider in his father's office. Not to mention in the trailer, Dr Connors says that him becoming Spiderman was not an accident.

Why do they feel the need to change a perfectly good origin?!

I wish they'd gone the way of TIH and just skipped the origin and went straight into a fresh Spidey story for us

Nolan changed up the story with Batman, so why can't Marc Webb do it with Spider-Man ?

@Jollem

Batman was trained in the comics by Henry Ducard whose described as a knowledgeable detective with excellent man-hunting skills.

Also, its revealed that Ducard is largely amoral, working for criminals as often as he does the law.

Now "Ra's al Ghul is an international assassin whose ultimate goal is a world in perfect environmental balance. He believes that the best way to achieve this balance is to eliminate most of humanity. Ra's usually tries to assault the world's human populace with a biological weapon, such as a genetically-engineered virus. H"

I know this is a Spider-Man article, but its a perfectly reasonable merging of 2 very similar characters in Batman Begins.

This is never in the SPM comics right?

The only question is "Why did his father change Peter's genetic structure?"
tazmaniak
tazmaniak - 5/3/2012, 6:24 PM
Kinda makes sense. I don't think they're saying his father meant for him to get bit by a spider or even knew he would. I think they're saying his father maybe injected something into Peter long ago and the chance bite from a spider activated whatever it was and likely caused this mutation based on that spider's bite.

I think it's a more appropriate explanation of why he developed spider powers. Doesn't it make more sense that a spider's DNA mixed with some other agent in his body could actually give him spider powers as opposed to a radioactive spider biting him and for some reason his body takes on the characteristics of a spider?
I think so.

Definitely a different take on it but i wonder why Hollywood never just sticks with the original story.
KnobGoblin
KnobGoblin - 5/3/2012, 6:26 PM
If true it's not as if it's a drastic change like the Alien Ninja Turtles or something, it's just being expanded on a little to make it more plausible than a radioactive spider which would probably give you cancer instead of super powers. The Spider bite is still the catalyst of the transformation so calm down, fanboys.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 5/3/2012, 6:28 PM
Meh, who cares, I always thought it was super [frick]in' retarded that he got his powers from a radioactive spider bite. I guess I understand the more hardcore Spidey-fans hate on this, I never cared much for the character though, so... yeah take that for what it's worth.
