This is the episode Game Of Thrones fans have been waiting for. As anyone who has read George R.R. Martin's "A Clash Of Kings" will know how epic the Battle Of Blackwater proved to be, and episode 9 of HBO's fantasy drama series is entirely dedicated to it. Below we have our first look at Bronn ("son of..you wouldn't know him") getting ready to let an arrow loose at Stannis Baratheon's approaching fleet led by Davos Seaworth, while behind him Blackwater Bay readies for attack..

And here is a still from this Sunday's episode "The Prince Of Winterfell", featuring Varys and Tyrion..

And, HBO have released the synopsis for the final episode of season 2, entitled "Valar Morghulis" (translates to "all men must die"). It might be considered pretty SPOILERY, so if you haven't read the books and don't want to know the outline of the finale I'd skip it..

Episode #20: “Valar Morghulis” (season finale)

Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 3 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT)

Other HBO playdates: June 3 (11:10 p.m.), 5 (11:00 p.m.), 6 (10:00 p.m.) and 9 (10:45 p.m.)
HBO2 playdates: June 4 (9:00 p.m.), 7 (8:00 p.m.), 8 (11:00 p.m.) and 10 (4:20 p.m.)

As Theon (Alfie Allen) stirs his men to action, Luwin (Donald Sumpter) offers some final advice. Brienne (Gwendolyn Christie) silences Jaime; Arya (Maisie Williams) receives a gift from Jaqen(Tom Wlaschiha); Dany (Emilia Clarke) goes to a strange place; and Jon (KitHarington) proves himself to Qhorin (Simon Armstrong).

Written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss; directed by Alan Taylor.

I had to update with this very impressive song, which is basically an original recording of the show's opening theme with lyrics. Have a listen and be sure to visit their Youtube account and give em some love..

I hope there's some scale to the battle. Thus far, the series has skipped over a few of the major battle sequences that are pivotal to the story, no doubt due to the cost of portraying an LOTR style clash. But if there's one event for which HBO should loosen the purse strings, its probably this one.

ive been saying for ever now that the flames in the promo banner need to be green, representing the wild fire

i swear last season i saw a quick glimpse of it with green fire but then it was normal yellow fire ever since as if they changed their minds suddenly to not spoil anything for those who didnt read the books

Ckal, I think they're just going to speed things up when it comes to that side things..

SPOILER

Cat will free Jaimie and charge Brienne with bringing him back to Kings Landing to exchange from Sansa and Arya..just how it happens in book 3. By silencing my guess is they mean with a good sword fight he's not expecting!

The Skies will fill with bright lights that fall and crash and burn the ships with fire. Men will howl at the pain of burning. The Enemy at the Castle will struggle and pray that their plan is working. One thing is known one side will fail at BLACKWATER......

Which book did you read? I recall plenty of battle from Davos and Tyrion's POV's...

@nordberg

Supposedly a HUGE chunk of the budget this year went to "The Battle of Blackwater", we haven't seen the dragons much, and i'm guessing thats the reason. The House of Undying should be interesting as well.....i'm REALLY interested to see how that's portrayed on screen. Especially since the show has Danny's dragons being stolen (which I love, I always wondered why no one took them from her when she was weak while i was reading it). The whole sequence was pretty trippy, it seemed like GRRM wrote it while sipping some mushroom tea....weird stuff, but it could possibly look great on screen.

@ckal

Don't forget about the battle at the wall before STANNIS saved all their @sses!!! That was probably my favorite one of all so far, fighting giants and kinds of wilding craziness. That one is gonna look great on-screen too!!!

Thanks for making my point for me. Both Davos and Tyrion give a very clear sense of the scope of the battle as it is happening. And yes, there are periods of time missing due to the jumping back and forth between different character's POVs, BUT the battles are nowhere near as glossed over on the page as is portrayed in the series. Many liberties have been taken with the story due to budget and time constraints, so I understand why this is the case and such is true with practically every book that is translated to film.... but as Elvis might say, a little less conversation and a little more action would be nice in this situation.

Yes, definitely looking forward to the House of the Undying but a little miffed that Dany's motivation for going there was changed to her dragons having been kidnapped. I don't know... It just seems kind of trite to me.

And that's a good point about the battle at the Wall... but I have a feeling that they'll skimp on that one big time. In fact, I'll be surprised if Giants are introduced to the series, Rattlebones' headwear notwithstanding.
