It has to have been to worst kept secret in comic history, but now it's finally official - in Astonishing X-Men #50 Jean-Paul Beaubier, aka Northstar, proposes to his long-term boyfriend Kyle Jinadu, and in the following issue they look set to tie the not..unless of course, someone or something ruins their big day!..

From Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso..

“The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality. We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle's wedding reflects Marvel's 'world outside your window' tradition."

Mazel tov! Many blessings to the happy couple.

@TheMyth

I don't know why, but this "DC reviving a character but bringing them back gay" nonsense annoys me. Because it shows as an obvious ploy to catch up with what Marvel has been doing for years as a progression towards equality and NOT stunt publicity...

...like DC. It just feels that way for me.

It's called life, and even some heroes will be gay. It's just the facts. If magazines didn't have the "who's gay in Hollywood" lists every year, making it a freakin BIG deal, it would just be a matter of living, and trust me, life would go on.

Eh, who cares.

The way I see it it can be both a stunt for ratings/sales, AND an attempt to reflect the changing (for the better) times. Whether you are happy, sad or indifferent about it you can't deny that it's a milestone for comics books..well, Marvel comic books anyway, Archie did beat em to it:)

I agree.. it IS a milestone. and being gay, it's cool, in it's own way. But, I don't buy comics to go, "yay, I have a gay hero to follow." lol I like heroes, no matter who they are, based on coolness. period. and I just get tired of the haters out there attacking.

This gay agenda is driving me crazy. I don't hate gays, nor am I religious, I am a man of science. Law of nature puts man and woman together to procreate, we were not intended to mate with our same sex, definitley think there is some bad wiring in the brain. Quit cramming this trash down our throats.

Well, I'm not gonna be too interested in any two characters..gay or straight..getting married unless there is a twist in the tail which leads to something interesting, which I hear there will be here, so I'll prob pick up the issue, but not because they happen to be gay, I would even if it were Cyclops and Emma Fros..wait bad example, he is gay..even if it was Wolverine and some frail he's bangin:)

Can someone here tell me why gay marriage is wrong? How does it affects society in any negative way? And no, just because the bible says so is not a good argument.

I see a lot of mutants in the audience who probably don't even know who the hell Northstar is.... and horrible art on the proposal page. I'm not gay, but if i was, I'd say "no".

meh.. filler story to sell more books, like every other comic book wedding.

ironically, the grooms are the less flamboyant in the party. the guests should have left their superhero costumes at home.
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 5/22/2012, 10:13 AM
While this is at its core just a cheap publicity stunt, at least it involves a character that has been established as gay for quite a while. This could be more of a natural progression of his relationship with this Kyle guy.

Gmoney: I've always wondered the same thing about Iceman's ice slides. Seems like those things could be a big liability issue if one was melting and a big chunk hit someone in the head, or if property was damaged by them.
VictorHugo
VictorHugo - 5/22/2012, 10:14 AM
The problem is not gayness per se, this is a old joke.

The problem is to use this to get cheap controversy and to smoke curtain bad writing.
