Heath Ledger's Father On Denver Shootings: "We Can't Blame Heath Or The Character"

After it came out that Gunman James Holmes supposedly modeled himself on the The Joker, the late Heath Ledger's father has released a statement urging people not to place any blame on the character, or his son..

After the events of the atrocity in Denver we heard from Christopher Nolan and most of the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, who offered their condolences to the victims and their families. Ever since it was revealed that James Holmes had -- allegedly -- modeled himself in some way on the Joker (apparently the evil moron dyed his hair and beard RED as a homage) from The Dark Knight, there have been those with the gall to try to place some of the blame or responsibility at the feet of the fictitious character, and more appallingly, the late Heath Ledger who played him so memorably in the movie. Obviously Ledger can't speak out to defend himself, but his father Kim can..

“It's terrible - the whole circumstances. It's diabolical. I am appalled. The guy's obviously a nut case. He has obviously lost it.

I think what America should be doing is restricting the availability of ammunition or revisiting their gun laws - that's what they should be doing.

We can't blame Heath or the character. It's fictitious. I don't know what this does to the character. I think that's the least of my worries.”

When stuff like this happens some morons have to jump to ridiculous conclusions and try to place blame on anything they can instead of just blaming the one person responsible for the shooting. The shooter himself! Come on people stop trying to figure out if pop culture or entertainment media somehow caused this guy to do what he did and admit what the [frick] really happened here. This guy was just a crazy asshole.

Yeah bad shit happens in the world and theres nothing we can do to stop it. It doesnt help if we take the guns away from everybody some nutcase will always find away to get them.
Best thing we can do is be good human beings and help those around us and if you have money donate some of it to charity or some shit like that.

Anyway RIP Victims of Colorado. No one deserves to die that young like some of you did. :(

Of course it will help to take the guns away. Every country with strict gun laws has a much smaller fatality rate involving firearms than America. Simple math really but the Americans just do not want to take that step.

Looks like this was more about Heath's father using a tragedy as a platform for his political beliefs.

i tend to agree with mr ledgers statement that his late son or the roll he portrayed should be blamed in any way, for one think its been a few years and that bridge was burnt a while ago,
this mad person in denver had reasons beyond what we know for doing as he did and untill the full reasons are made public its all speculation and fantasy fueled speculation.
let those dealing with this conclude there investigations then all movie going fans will know the true whys and wherefores.
i can only hope they do this soon to spare the feelings of those shot and the families of those murdered.

Hah! Holmes [frick]ed that up...the Joker has green hair. I think he wasn't modelling it on the Joker at all I think he's a sensationalistic prick. Heaths Dad is right about the ammo and guns though America has to rethink that shit....they won't...but they should.

Rather than just talk about this tragedy, how about being real heroes and helping the victims...there were some who had no medical insurance and families are not only grieving their child's loss but also suffering financially.....As a community, let's ask the CMB editors and journalists to try to reach out to Chris Nolan, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Morgan Free, Christian Bale as well as the producers to see if they can help!! you also have to look at the worst case possibilities if this guy had lived in a place where there is little or no guns or gun crimes then he may have used another method and killed a lot more in the process home made petrol bombs or other bomb types could have inflicted death and havoc to the whole building and in the process killed many more, we will never know hopefully.
but the fact he had his apartment booby trapped shows he had more than guns at his disposal.

Well said.

People have just been irrational about this entire tragedy since its happened. So anyone who dares say the sad truth - that life goes on and there's nothing to do about stopping the senseless tragedies of the world - will be irrationally attacked.

I agree with RamonSuarez and Ninjajesus- Everyone attacking grif so brutally for something THEY deemed to be "troll" behavior? Ya know this was actually one of the few posts by grif that actually WASN'T troll-like. At least he typed out his thoughts on it.

This site has become such a dictatorship lately damn.

Watch for it: Democrats will cry out for more gun laws. Republican will cry out that we need to enforce the bevy of laws that already exists. Nothing will happen but a lot of political posturing and perhaps some soundbites for the 24 hour news dudes.
A state Senator was shot through the head and we heard all the same things. What came of it?
Add to this that it's an election year. Unless someone intends on making this a major part of their political platform this issue will be, more or less, regulated to a curious small side story before the Olympics begin by end of week. Man, I hate politics! At the same time our collective tiny attention spans really irk me as well.
Be forewarned true believers, an investigation on comic book violence is not far.

@RamonSuarez

A common sense comment you say...

"not going to waste my time with this."

If Grif and you don't wish to waste your time with this then simply don't.

So all you and Grif had to do was not comment, but guess what you both did.

You both saw the headline and you still clicked on it anyway, knowing that you both weren't going to "waste time with it".

You both then decided to troll as per usual by doing what you said you weren't going to do and wasted time.

No truth needs to swallowed here if I wasn't interested in this story I wouldn't have read it nor commented. Actions that seem to be confusing for you due to your low IQ no doubt.

Well we all can agree Grif and his Pedo Bear are douche bags. But Grif is making a valid point, a rude or blunt at that. Bad things will continue to happen and there is nothing you and I can do to stop mad men out there. yeah you can change gun laws etc... but if someone really wants to kill a person or persons they will find a way.

These events are sad and it clearly shows the time we are living in. I am sure in the near future news outlets will milk this story dry. I almost vomitted in my mouth when Good Morning America keep repeating that the killer was Batman Fanatic because he owned one poster and a mask!?!

My point is people will now look at CBM or Comics and try to put all the blame saying these influenced the killer etc..

Anyways sad time for the victims and hopefully we will learn something from this and move foward.

Also one last thought it is good to see the Marvel fans and DC fans agreeing on something for once.

Democrats aren't making gun control an issue in this upcoming election. For one thing, there are plenty of conservative "Blue Dog" Democrats in Congress who are committed anti-gun control politicians. For another Obama is running against Romney in swing states throughout the South and Midwest where the issue of gun ownership is a very touchy subject for voters on both sides of the political spectrum. Gabriel Giffords, a Congressional politician, was nearly gunned down at one of her own events with a darling little girl and we saw ZERO political push to herd any type of gun control laws in her state or in Washington DC.

@BrickWall

1.) First off, don't attack Grif through me. I never wrote I wasn't wasting time on this issue he Griff did.

2.) It seems to me he's not wasting his time as its you all are complaining and making a mountain out of a molehill.

3.) Who said I wasn't interested in the article? I just don't see the need to dwell n the tragedy of what is already done. You want to go grieve like an ailing widow, that's your business.
