SANDMAN Movie Pitch Illustrations Revealed

SANDMAN Movie Pitch Illustrations Revealed

We may never see Morpheus grace the big screen, but Neil Gaiman has just posted a link to some movie pitch illustrations by Jill Thompson, which he had shown to Warner Bros. back when a Sandman movie was in the very early stages of development..

Now we have no way of knowing exactly what would have ended up in the movie had it happened of course, as it seems Gaiman was pitching elements from his entire Sandman saga if these pics are anything to go by. But a good chunk of them seem to focus on the "Brief Lives" arc, in which Dream and Delirium seek out their long lost brother Destruction. Fan favorite characters such as The Corinthian, Fiddlers Green, and John Constantine are also depicted..

Update: Gaiman has reveled that the reason the pics cover so much of his run on Sandman, is that they were pitching for a sequence of 3 movies.

This is only a sample, you can check out the rest of the great Jill Thompson Sandman art here - and if you have a spare few hundred knicker lying around you can purchase a print too.

You need to read the series. Best CB series ever.

The Corithinan looks pretty cool and the fact they were going to include the arc with John Constantine would have been amazing.

My guess is they showed WB a few highlights from each arc, because there is no way one movie could have covered everything these pics do.

@RorMachine I don't even think I would want this as a film. The literature is just too good, I would hate for this project to be taken lightly.

That's just the first story, you'll never get an idea if ya don't read it for yourself. It's prob.. actually no, it is the best comic series ever written.

Tonychu, me too, but apparently Gaiman has a tight hold of it and won't allow them to make it unless he approves. So, if we ever do get a movie or a tv series, you can rest assured that it's at least something he has ok'd.

@Youngblood Wikipedia can not cover just how deep this series is. I suggest you buy the novels.

the one from inside the corinithian's head looking out at Dream is way cool..don't think they've done anything like that in the comics.

One day this will be made. hopefully on HBO or similar station. I'm glad to hear Neil is holding it close until the right opportunity comes along. Maybe after Sandman 0 comes out there will be enough of a push to make it happen at long last! O, but I can dream....

The story about how Morpheus reclaims his powers would be interesting (Preludes and Nocturnes). Seems like a good beginning movie.

I just don't see the mercurial Johnny Depp as being Morpheus.

Here's a link to old old "fan-cast" for Sandman:

Bring back this project, follow Neil's model exactly and pitch it to adults.

Sandman as a whole is my favorite book--not comic, but book in general. I'd love to see it turned into a film/TV series, but I'll be perfectly happy if it doesn't. The comics alone leave me speechless.

Everyone should read it.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
THIS WOULD WORK AS A TV SERIES SO EASILY....
AS A TRILOGY I AM NOT SURE,MAYBE TOO MUCH FOR THE BIG SCREEN TO HANDLE..

THE ILLUSTRATIONS ABOVE ARE WONDERFUL...

ADVICE TO ANYONE WHO HAS NOT DONE SO......

READ THE BOOKS! NOW!

A movie will only ruin the thing. HBO or some similar cable network has to run it.

I'm sure there are people who don't like Sandman. I guess my avatar is evidence I'm not one of them. :D

Were/are there plans for a HBO 'American Gods' series?
