Del Toro & Reeves On Fox's Director Shortlist For DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Last week we learned that Rupert Wyatt had stepped down as director for Fox's follow up to the brilliant Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, and now Deadline have 7 names that might potentially take his place - and quite a few should prove very popular choices..

20th Century Fox has come up with a short list to replace Rupert Wyatt as the director of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and Deadline have spilled the beans - according to them, the directors currently being looked at are Matt Reeves, J Blakeson, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Juan Antonio Bayona and Jeff Nichols. - And, you can add two very exciting names to that list: the site just updated their article and added Guillermo del Toro and Rian Johnson to the mix too.

Apparently Reeves is "top of the list". The Cloverfield director just today stepped away from Warner Bros. planned remake of The Twilight Zone citing schedule conflicts, perhaps that's because the Apes sequel is now on that schedule? I don't need to list Del Toro's credentials to you guys, and of course Johnson has Looper coming out soon. Fresnadillo helmed 28 Weeks Later and the Clive Owen horror flick Intruders, Blakeson directed The Disappearance of Alice Creed and The Decent 2, Bayona - The Orphanage and this year's The Impossible, and Jeff Nichols brought us the very impressive Take Shelter. So, out of these guys, who would you like to see get the gig and why? Sound off below.

Del Toro would be awesome, but I'd be surprised if he does it. I'd go with Reeves or Johnson.

I Say FOX should stick with Reeves only cuz besides Del Toro, who i know is way to busy to even give us HB3 , wont do this and Reeves is the only other director I'm familiar with.

Also depends the direction this sequel is going towards now...is it the Ape/man war...the apes trying to establish a colony now...will it skip over to them already in control...the director should be picked based on how the story is gonna be next up.

Cloverfield was shit.

The only guy on the list who's worth a damn is Del Toro.

Anyone but Rian Johnson, he proved with looper he can't handle big-budget and big-concept films. Id give it to Reeves or Fresnadillo

I'm actually surprised that Brett Ratner's name is nowhere on that list. The guy is a shit director, but it seems like every time we see a short-list of potential directors to take over a franchise, that douche's name is at the top.

Of course they would want Guillermo del Toro! But why should he do it? Do your own stuff, please, Guillermo!

Del Toro won't do another sequel for a franchise where he didn't do the first film. Well unless Peter Jackson asks him because he wants to hang out with him during post.
My bet is Reeves, he's a great director who does not work nearly as much as he should. Cloverfield and Let Me In were both awesome and I think he's good enough to pull this off.

Matt Reeves or Del Toro would be fine with me but I'm honestly still very upset that Wyatt stepped down. I was hoping for a trilogy with him at the helm.

This list is much more impressive than what they have for Justice League so far... Ratner? really, Ratner? REALLY?!?

Of these two, I'd pick Del Toro.

It either continues with Wyatt or ends with Wyatt. If he won't come back then reboot.
