The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

we see frodo, because like the trailer, we will most likely see a flashback at some point. On the other hand, I can assume he is looking at Bilbos map, which means Bilbo is back from his adventure, and it is a scene that leads up to the events of LOTR.

We learn about bilbo's story at the same time as frodo, older bilbo gives him the red book most likely and frodo reads the hobbit, and the story and movie starts. i think its a cool way of introducing frodo, and keeping ian holm and elijah wood in some way still involved

I loved the Hobbit book WAY more than the Lord of the Rings so I'm hoping for the same from the movie. I'm not sure about everyone else but i cannot stand Elijah Wood as Frodo and to me he was the worst part of the LOTR Trilogy so seeing a pic of him in this movie absolutely made me cringe.

@Godzillafart...have you ever read Tolkien's Unfinished Tales? I know PJ isn't allowed to use anything from that book, but there are some good reasons for Frodo being present in his movies.
