JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie To Shoot Next Year, Set For 2015 Release

After Warner Bros'. win in the Superman case, the studio is now expected to "accelerate development" of their planned Justice League movie, shooting as early as next year with a 2015 release date in mind - putting it head-to-head with The Avengers 2!..

It seems that Warner Bros'. win against the heirs of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster means that the studio can now focus on bringing the various DC heroes together for their planned Justice League movie. Although we knew this was already in the works, apparently a loss yesterday would have meant serious problems for any further use of Superman's key mythology on-screen, thus hidering production. But now, according to The LA Times - citing "a knowledgeable person not authorized to discuss the matter publicly" - it's full speed ahead..

"Warner hopes to shoot the film next year and release it in the summer of 2015. The studio already has a "Justice League" script in the works. Next it needs to attach a director and then cast the lead roles."

Yes, we may very well be looking at the ultimate DC/Marvel war when both Justice League and the sequel to The Avengers come our way in 2015. The site also confirm that WB are taking a reverse approach to Marvel when bringing the various characters to the big screen, as apparently the "plan is to spin out other superheroes into their own movies following "Justice League.". Is that a smart move? Guess we'll find out. Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall is currently working on the Justice League script, so hopefully we will begin hearing some (solid) news on potential directors soon.

´´The studio's plan is to spin out other superheroes into their own movies following "Justice League." That's contrary to Marvel's successful strategy of teaming up Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America in "Avengers" (which became a global blockbuster) after each character had his own film.`` - Smart move. Henry Cavill's Superman will lead into JLA and the rest of the heroes will get their movies after it. Just as was speculated after Zack Snyders statements at Comic-Con. Well played, WB, well played.

It'll probably get pushed back to at least 2016. But then Marvel will probably push Avengers 2 back as well to 2016, just like they did with the first Avengers film.

They're probably going to do a reverse Avenger's strategy, besides Superman in MoS, the Justice League movies will be the spring board for the individual movies for Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.

This has been news I've been wanting to hear all my life, next to a real Superman movie being done but for some reason I'm not as excited as I thought I'd be. How are they gonna start shooting next year without a director? Is the script really that good??

The only way I'll be extremely excited about this is if they give Snyder the job.

Start filming next year??? How? WB, I'm really hoping you don't rush this. This will make or break CBMs for a very long time.

If this is true, I'm surprised. The fact that WB wants to compete directly against the Avengers says a lot. I really don't know if it's a good idea on WB's part given how much of a juggernaut the first Avengers movie was.

If this is true.... My ass will be at SDCC next year!! Or at least NYCC... Even though they don't have as many goodies.

The director is gonna have one he'll of a job being responsible for casting every single member of the JL. That's the part that gets me nervous. God, that is like my dream job...

I'm extremely excited to say the least. That can change with the cast and/or director, however. And I REALLY hope they don't rush it. I would prefer they start filming in 2014.

DC/WB: "Hey guys, we're doing the Justice League movie!"

Cool, what work needs to be done?

DC/WB: "Everything"

Seriously though, good for them. I hope they make it good and not just try to shit out something over produced and lame.

TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 10/18/2012, 12:37 PM
It won't work. Let's see a mere 3 hour movie, consisting of 5-8 heroes, plus a Villain Worthy enough to overpower the Goddamn Superman, all the while only having 3 of these heroes having a moderate success and people knowing who they are. Catch is though, DC is [frick]ing it up. They want Cavill to play this Universe's Supes, while having This guy play him in the JLA, let's have this guy play Batman, and have the Lone Ranger play him in JLA. Let's recast Green Lantern or introduce another Lantern, along with the other characters no one outside pop culture knows....

Come on now WB/DC, for God sakes, quite trying to play catch-up and spend time on making a well processed and thought out film.

JLA could be AMAZING, but I have no faith in this convoluted mess.
I'm not a marvel fanboy, but seriously, a 2015 release date... Come on, that is clearly a cash grab that is gonna recoil on their profit.

None the less, Que the Fancasts.

Wow, this is interesting, although I have too say pre-avengers Justice League would have easily beaten Avengers, assuming both films were or equal quality and rating, because of the powerhouse 3 being Supers, Bats and WW, heck just having Batman and Superman on the same screen would destroy most films.

However, post Avengers I think sticking JL this close to Avengers 2 is not quite suicide, but seems like an odd choice.

I have no problem starting with a JL film first, if Avengers box office proved anything it was: Not everyone who watched Avengers had seen all, if any, of the previous Marvel films, so it is possible to start with the team-up movie.

What I will say if this script "has" been in the works for over a year now and not still won't be released for another 3 years, that isn't rushed, in fact -- that is taking your time. Maybe the Superman case was a blessing in disguise and forced them to take it slow.

Long story short if it is good, it will make big bucks. I guess the other issue is whether Cavill is Superman in it, as if he is and MoS is awful that may hurt it, seeing as Superman is JL's leader and if MoS is a big hit and he isn't in it, people may hate that and not bother with 2 Supermen.

Who knows, I just hope they make a great film -- Yeah it is a reaction to Avengers, but both companies are very hardly proactive, been copying each other for years so don't see it stopping now.

i don't know how it is rushing it, that is a solid 2 1/2 years away. If the script was already in development and they don't have to worry about a story that pulls together four other characters and their movies i don't see why it couldn't be made in that time frame. Lets just hope they don't [frick] it up.

This is going to suck. They have no interest in bringing a Justice League movie to the screen, they just want to make a heap of cash. Which they will, because we'll all go and see it, if only to moan about it.

It's a big shame. I'm a major DC/Justice League fanboy and would LOVE to be excited by this news, but the headline may as well be "Warner Brothers Struggle to compete with Marvel Studios"
