The Origin of Skeletor Exclusive Preview

Writer Joshua Hale Fialkov spoke to USA Today about his powerful new origin for the villain who has been a thorn in He-Man's side for 30 years now. It sounds as if this new story might cast Skeletor is a slightly more sympathetic light, as he reacts to the injustices of Eternian society..

"It's a really human reaction. It's inside all of us — it's that feeling of 'That's not fair' that we all feel and go through. Skeletor is now tied much more directly to He-Man's origin, locking the two of them in an eternal struggle for a reason. Skeletor thinks he should be the king, and not only does he have the king who (ticks) him off but he has this kid who's going to become king and, by the way, has this magic sword that should be his. That's a telling story."

I'm a really big fan of Fialkov's writing and yes I grew up in the 80's so this is a must buy for me. BTW, Fialkov is also doing a He Man origin one shot with Ben Oliver in January.

@darkmetal

Being a pop culture icon does not translate to "is recognizable to today's children."

I'm from the 80's growing up with this cartoons and if the story done right could be good.
They do have great stories to tell about these characters and who knows they kinda resemble the Thor mythos.
But I don't know if I can take anymore hairy loin cloths though.

You're right, bro. They're making this new comic series, the new movie, and selling toys and other various merchandise, and the characters appear frequently in POP CULTURE because the property has no popularity at all. Thanks for pointing that out.

I like the idea that he is the brother of King Randor and Hordak would become his teacher in sorcery. But not really that he once had good relationship with Randor. No relationship is much better. Randor doesnt know he has brother.
Randor´s father abandons Keldor because of his mixed race or because the feeling that the child is not good. And Hordak takes him under his wings. When he grows up and becomes fearsome Sorcerer. He returns to Eternia with a vengeance and desire to take throne. He of course fails and is injured badly. He asks help from Hordak who saves his life with powerful spell. Spell has a price thou and Keldor is not Keldor anymore. Hordak give him new name. Skeletor.
