The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

Those trolls...amazing! I don't know how they did it, but they managed to make them more "human-like" in that they actually look like they can talk, but still look like the same trolls from the LOTR. As for the goblins, i don't understand why they look more like orcs than the goblins from the Mines of Moria from the 1st movie. Those guys looked exactly like what goblins who live underground should look like. I always figured the goblins from The Hobbit and FOTR were the same "species"

I have a feeling this could be my favourite film of the year... having said that, I've probably set myself up for disappointment, like I did with The Dark Knight Rises...

I believe the ones in the first picture are hunter orcs (warg riders), not goblins.

The first ones are lower orcs(ones that wanted to eat the little hobbits in the Two Towers, that initiated a battle between them and the Uru-kai. The second pic is a Cave Troll, that battled the fellowship in the dwarf kingdom in Fellowship of The Rings!

Everytime a pic for this movie comes out I become more convinced it will be outstanding.

My only question is, will it be as epic as any of the LOTR movies? I really hope so.

I want the closing scene to just be Smaug.
