That's right, everyone's favorite mullet rocking government agent will be getting the movie treatment - probably minus the mullet this time around. Richard Dean Anderson played the character in the '80s tv series which ran for seven seasons. A member of a fictional government agency known as the Phoenix Foundation, MacGyver was famous for cobbling together makeshift weaponry from various mundane household objects. According to Variety New Line were suitably impressed by James Wan's most recent feature The Conjuring to offer him the gig. No plot details are known from Jason Richman's script yet, but it was recently recently worked over by Brian and Mark Gunn. Martha and Raffaella De Laurentiis are producing through their Dino De Laurentiis Company shingle along with Lee David Zlotoff.

I like the idea of a MacGyver movie! MacGyver could take some duck tape, a piece of wood, & whip up a skateboard! LOL!

Just let Richard Dean Anderson play an older MacGyver. That would be more fun.

Rebooting it and making it gritty makes no sense.

I did article on this about a week ago. I labeled it as as a rumor, because I only find the story on one website(MacGyver Online).

I don't know why it took so long for other websites to pick up the story. I guess it's official now. And they already have a writer!?

If RDA doesn't come back, I just don't know. It's exciting the franchise is still going strong, but RDA will always be MacGyver to me. I actually just watched some MacGyver today. I wish they would do a MacGyver video game and RDA voiced MacGyver. That would be awesome!

@Gambit I think he could still do it! He unofficially reprised his role as MacGyver in those webisodes for Mercedes.

And look at Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones... Even though KOTCS sucked, it wasn't because of Harrison Ford!

i was born in 89 and i didn't watch a macgyver episode until it was released on DVD, and for a decade RDA was Jack O'Neill to me.

Bring it on!! I've been a huge MacGyver fan since the show premiered.

MacGyver needs

1. Richard Dean Anderson to play MacGyver
2. Bruce McGill- as Jack Dalton
3.Terri Hatcher- as Penny Parker

you also need the zartan-esque ,Murdoc atleast mentioned! Same goes with Pete!

I suppose you can have the story follow Macgyver's grandson since his son was introduced in series finale. I think a grandson would be in his mid 20s by now. MacGyver could be the new head of the Phoenix foundation replacing Pete ( since Dana Elcar sadly passed away in 2005).

The story can basically be about the new Phoenix recruit trying to gain the approval of his Grandfather, when they both end up going on some crazy "MacGyver adventure" together. Along the way they meet up with Jack and Penny. And somehow you can throw Murdoc in the mix. As long as there are bombs, paperclips, mullets, duct-tape, swiss army knives, explosions, bombs - oh and Mac can't use a gun - unless its to break it apart and make a some sort of bomb with it.

Hollywood will screw this up with a pretty face and a lack of intelligence of the property.
