The director also posted the following production update..

"Been pulling 14-hour days trying to finish RIDDICK. My typical day starts at 9am with intensive visual effects meetings, sweating out the details of our 900 VFX shots. Then I jet across town to the mix stage, Soundelux, where I supervise the sound, balancing out the often-competing elements of music, sound fx, sound design, and dialog. At night I hit the lab, Technicolor in Hollywood, staying until midnight to do “DI work” — color-correction of the movie. This is where David Eggby and I have one last chance to get the images right, dropping in grads and power windows to finesse what we shot on set. It’s a great tool, the Digital Intermediate. Kind of like Photoshop for movies. Gotta love it. Gotta love the challenge of bringing it all home."

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Wonder what his character has to do with Riddick in this one, I went to see pitch black at the cinema it was great because it was unexpected but the sequel wasn't up to it so I hope this is.

I'll be looking forward to this one. The first two were greatly flawed, but somehow I managed to enjoy 'em. With today's advanced CGI, et cetera, I think there's a chance that this will be a lot more enjoyable, although I won't mind seeing more improvement on the script.

Yep, last movie was called "Chronicles Of Riddick", and for this one they went with "Riddick". Something tells me we aren't dealing with the most imaginative bunch of film makers here.

I like how it sounds, but I don't understand why Riddick ain't head of that empire, anymore. They better have a good damn explanation for that crap, 'cuz Chronicles ended perfectly like that.

Some of those undead guys would probably try to take him out , I don't think they wanted to be ruled by an outsider .

Chronicles of Riddick was so much more than I was expecting, just a larger scale than Pitch Black, almost epicly scaled. Looking forward to being suprised by this one too.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

I loved the first one, as most on here did. And I'm in the minority in that I loved the 2nd one too. I know it wasn't any form of cinematic genius, but it was so different and off base from what I expected. Plus Urban is a [frick]in boss.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

Didnt like the villains in the second film. And to me it kinda ruined Riddick´s character that he became the king. Would have been better if he just would have killed the king and then left.
In the first one his character was perfect. He was not a basic hero but antivillain. He helped others only if it was good for him.

What sucks is that Karl Urban is such a fantastic actor but his movie's never seem to draw the masses as the headline actor for the movie anyway. Dredd was awesome and people are waiting in lines to see the crappy Twilight movies. It seems the masses want some sort of forbidden romance in there movie's for them to want to watch them . I hope Karl keeps doing scifi movies and that studios continue to hire the guy. Reading the plot for this movie I believe that it's going to be really good because they are going back to what made Pitch black so good which is Riddick fighting and being chased by creatures and mercenaries.

I like the Riddick character, even if the last one had some issues, I'm still interested in seeing how this one turns out. That said, I'm inclined to agree with Ror and say they seem to be lacking in imagination as the plot seems to be a rehash of Pitch Black with a sprinkle of Chronicles of Riddick thrown in. Oh and the name, really? I guess it could be worse though, they could call it Riddick Rises... or Rise of The Chronicles of Riddick... lol.

Why do, some, people have, such, a problem with the name Riddick for a movie title? I, actually, like it... It's short, sweet, and, yes, I will also say to the point, essentially... *cool*/P :)

Aiiwolf - 11/20/2012, 6:09 AM
LOL @ Pepe

Well, If this is the FIRST of the last two, a PREQUEL Pitch Black than thats awesome...other than that it wouldnt make sense to him be over-thrown by his empire. Unless if he walked out on them.

What I would like to see is, Riddick go to the underworld and kickass there. Now that would be badass.

Concept story sounds like a Pitch Black/COR crossover. I'd rather they come up with something more original than that. Oh well, can't win em all.
