Comic fans who know the story behind DOFP probably figured we would be getting a bit of crossover between the continuity established in Singer's original movies, and the - at least partially - rebooted one of Mathew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. But now the director has revealed that the story will indeed focus on past and future/young and old versions of our Mutant pals, and as well as confirming returning First Class cast members, officially welcomed Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) and Ian McKellen (Magneto) to his DOFP cast..

As the man says, more to come - so keep an eye on CBM for any more cast additions. For now, how does this news sit with you guys?

I guess this is good news, although I was never THAT fond of McKellen's Magneto. Would have preferred for the focus to remain on Fassbender's version, but way too early to start fretting at this point!

HELL YES!! Awesome news, pumped for this movie. Only thing I really enjoyed about First Class was Fassbenders magneto so I'm glad they're getting back to the original trilogy in some way.

Like I said to JW on twitter, hoping they make this like the Elder Spock element of JJ's Star Trek. I don't want a film oversaturated with characters holding conversations with themselves.

this movie is either going to be amazing for pulling off the best time-travel movie since Back To The Future, or it's going to be a complete shit show.

Lovin' how that photoshop poster has wolverine unmarked and Shadowcat is apprehended - when she's standing right behind wolverine. xD

So if Patrick Stewart is in then it'll have to bridge before Last Stand, cause prof. X was killed in Last Stand. I know they had that thing with the comatose guy at the end but that was lame. If they have whatever happens in this movie separate Last Stand from everything else then I will be happy.

I really respect the fact that Stewars and Mckellan are coming back and playing roles like this at their age, but I really don't want Mckellan back, I never cared for his Magneto. But I can't wait for this to come back, this is one of my most anticipated cbm's of 2014

@ MrHulkSmashing... That is correct. On the Comic cover "Sprite" is one of Shadowcat's names she's gone by. Wolverine was breaking her out.

I'd like to officially welcome back themes of implicit homoeroticism, coming-out-of-the-closet allegories to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast

Thrilled to announce Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Casper Smart, Meridia from Brave, Queen Latifah, Barry Manilow, Ryan Seacrest & Cooper Anderson to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast, and the official soundtrack by #Madonna & #LADYGaga.
