FAN ART: "We're Back" - The STAR WARS Characters Return For EPISODE VII

Don't they look happy? Seeing this has actually reaffirmed my belief that having at least some of these guys pop up in the new trilogy - even just as a series of cameos - is the right thing to do. Granted a few of em may not have aged quite so well as they are depicted here, but hey, nothing bit of Hollywood magic can't sort out.

Says the artist..

"As a long-time fan of Star Wars I was overjoyed to hear that there are finally plans for more feature films now that George Lucas has sold the franchise to Disney. I know not everyone agrees – but I’ve been waiting for this since 1983 and I think it’s great news!

The momentous event prompted me to dust off my digital pen and draw this picture to show how I imagine the lead characters might look now. I have no idea if the plan is to use the same actors in the new movie – although I really hope they do.

I also gave them new costumes – nothing radical – just variations on what we saw them wear in the original trilogy. I’d love to design new characters and costumes for the new movies – but for this piece the main thing was to get the actors’ likenesses right and I’m pleased with the result."

See it kinda makes sense that he doesn't as Wookies live for so much longer than humans..he was supposed to be 200 back in the original trilogy anyway.

Yeah he does look like McDowell!

xizorkatarn , they aren't following any continuity from the expanded universe. It's gonna be a completely new story.

@Mark Julian Well both Obiwan and Yoda were past there prime in the original trilogy. They knew they were physically to old. They were the last two jedi masters.

Chewie looked exactly the same when he made a cameo appearance in Episode III when Yoda visited Kashyyyk, so I doubt he'd have changed very much between Episodes 6 and 7. Also, I've heard about Chewie dying in the expanded universe, but aren't the new movies ignoring all of that anyway?

Luke looks badass! Although I have to agree that he looks like the lovechild of Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell. Still very cool though, somehow the artist has managed to make it look like a more futuristic version of Star Wars without making it look like the prequels in any way.

I hope the set and prop designs in the new films are closer to the original trilogy than the prequels, I like how they explained the tech looking older in the originals as being due to the effects of the Empire, but I really do prefer the more 'classic' Star Wars vehicles like the X and Y Wing starfighters, and the TIEs, AT-ATs, etc...

And of course, the Millenium Falcon HAS to be in them!!!

I do like some of the planet designs in the prequels though, especially Coruscant. Hopefully Tattooine makes a return too, somehow.

Also, concerning decisions made during the prequels, Padme really should have come from Alderaan instead of Naboo, and it should've also been the Gungan homeworld. That way, watching Episode 4 would be extra satisfying knowing that the Empire killed Jar-Jar and his entire annoying-ass species with the Death Star!

"extended universe has no bearing on the films. it's only been stated about ten thousand times."

Actually, the Expanded Universe does have some bearing on the films.

The name Coruscant originated in the novel Heir to the Empire and a Jedi called Aayla Secura who originated in the comics makes appearances in Episode II and Episode III.

However, these are minor concessions.

If they can tell the story of the new movies without Chewie then they will, if they think they do need him, then they'll overturn his death.

That being said, the Expanded Universe is adaptable. If Chewie came back to life for the movies then they'd find a way to explain it in the books and the comics.
