Michael Caine On The "Cafe Scene" From TDKR; Says He's Up For JUSTICE LEAGUE

How exactly Bruce Wayne's old butler would fit into the planned DC superhero team up flick is anyone's guess, but Caine certainly sounds like he'd be up for it if asked. He also comments on whether or not what Alfred sees in his final scene from TDKR was real or imagined..

I don't think we have to worry about spoiling The Dark Knight Rises at this point do we? Well just in case, if you haven't seen it yet - spoilers ahead! One of the final shots in the movie sees Alfred (Michael Caine) glimpse Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), and a slightly out of focus Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) in the cafe he always imagined his surrogate son retiring to when he gave up the cape and cowl. Some have taken this to mean that the old butler was simply seeing what he wanted to, and that Bruce had in fact perished in the explosion as the world believed he had - a vision of his soul finally at peace if you will. Of course that's not the most popular take on it, and it's certainly not one shared by Caine.

"They were there. They were real. There was no imagination. They were real and he was with Anne, the cat lady, and I was happy ever after for him as I told him during the picture."

That's that then! We know Chris Nolan is done with Batman, but would Caine be up for one more go around as Alfred? Well, Hero Complex ask him about a possible appearance in Warner Bros'. planned Justice League movie, and the veteran actor responds: "I said to Chris, “If they do it again and they ask me to be the Butler, I’m going to do it. I want 10%." As I said, it might be difficult to picture what role Alfred would play in that movie, but I say if you have the opportunity, go for it Sir.

Didn't Sir Mike say something to the effect of "too juvenile a role" or something like that last year while filming?

Hahaha. Doubt he'll be in the new Batman though. We need a guy though that has a mustache and looks closer to Alfred. But he did an excellent job as Alfred. Fantastic actor.

i think the ending would of been better if bruce had died & alfred had imagined it,you know its what alfred wanted to see but it never actually happened.

Yeah, I figured that seeing Bruce was real. Didn't really think it was an illusion. Caine's a great actor. Always a pleasure to watch.

Thought I'd share this video with you guys. Pretty funny haha

He could be just checking in on the Manor/ Orphanage and seeing how John Blake is doing, in the Batcave.
YoungMan@ No matter what happens that trilogy is self-contained by virtue of the fact that those are the three that Nolan directed, in the same way that the two Burton movies are self-contained. A lot of fans of Batman and Batman Returns completely disregard the Schumacher films and you can do the same no matter what actors reprise what roles.
The DC Cinematic Universe can include the Nolanverse, but the Nolanverse does not have to include the extended DC Cinematic Universe.
Singer did the same with Superman Returns. He completely discarded Superman III and Superman IV - The Quset For Peace (in which Martha Kent died and Clark sold the farm), when doing Superman Returns and I feel obliged to agree with him. But I do not necassarily feel obliged to include Superman Returns as the third one.

Is anyone else getting bored of actors/actresses getting asked would they do the justice league?

@marvel72:
I agree with you completely. It would make it tragic. Batman's story is tragic.. But I'm sure Christopher Nolan would have been crucified by both WB and the general audience if that happened.

I remember hearing people say "wtf?!" when they saw his grave stone and cheer when they saw that he was alive and well.

I think I read somewhere that he wasn't allowed to kill Batman in film, so he found a clever way to do it.

The James Bond movies sometimes had the actor/actress who played M come back in any re-invention that came after the previous one. I don't see the problem in either Caine coming back for another Batman movie or J.K. Simmons coming back for another Spidey film.

It really got on my nerves how people were saying it was an 'open ending'. How in the WORLD did you get that impression? Because Nolan also directed Inception? Go home already. Glad to see it's finally confirmed for all of those dimwits.

that cafe scene ruined the emotional power of the alfred scene at the grave for me,it was like one minute you're nearly in tears & the next he's still alive.

"I agree that Caine is a awesome actor, but I want everything about the next Batman to be closer to source. That includes Alfred."

I agree. Caine is a great actor. But he is not Alfred.
Michael Gough was more close to the real Alfred.

He is too damn old for the role. Plus I don't think the DC movie universe should tie into Nolan's films

Alan Napier was the best Alfred. I think he's the only one that managed to put on the Bat costume to help Bats out
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 12/5/2012, 5:17 PM
TrueRedBlue@ That may be the preferred reading of the film, but I prefer to read the whole trilogy as if Alfred was metally disturbed. Bruce died with his parents and everything was left to Alfred, Earle took over Wayne Enterprises and Alfred asked for a job there, met Fox and got him to build all that stuff so he (Alfred) could be Batman.
Think about it. Would a girl like Rachel really go for Dent, when her childhood sweetheart who just happens to be a BILLIONAIRE and BATMAN was knocking on her underbottom? No, she wouldn't. She chose Dent because he was handsome a DA and Bruce was dead. She did not want to date Batman because he was a delusional old man who eventually got her killed.
There's even that line in The Dark Knight about blaming it all on Alfred in a "the butler did it" kind of way.
And you know what a Batman is, right? A military butler. That, right there, is conclusive proof.

they built up the construction of a new & improved bat-cave from begins & what we ended up with was a lame shot of a computer,bat-wardrobe & waterfall.
