THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Makes Another Best Of 2012 Top 10 List

Thsi time it's Time Magazine, who's "worst of 2012" list stirred up a bit of controversy a couple of weeks back. Is this one set to do the same? Chris Nolan's Batman swansong is certainly among some high-brow company anyway. Read on for the top 10 in full..

Time Magazine's decision to name Cloud Atlas the worst movie of 2012 in their last top 10 list was met with a bit of a "WTF" reaction from many people - we are talking about a year in which that Total Recall reboot was released after all!. With their best of list they seem to have played it a bit safer, sticking Michael Haneke's critically acclaimed Amour in the top spot, but they have made room for a CBM too, placing The Dark Knight Rises right in the middle at number 5..

1. Amour
2. Beasts Of The Southern Wild
3. Life Of Pi
4. Anna Karenina
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Zero Dark Thirty
7. Dark Horse
8. Dragon
9. Frankenweenie
10. The Invisible War

Nice to see Tim Burton's great return to form in there too. Here is what they had to say about Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie..

Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and an idealistic young cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) must save Gotham from a blight named Bane (Tom Hardy), with occasional help or intrusion from a lovely philanthropist (Marion Cotillard) and the revived Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). All five are orphans in masks; they repress or express their true natures by playing roles. Christopher Nolan’s stupendous climax to his Batman trilogy is a masquerade too. Nolan is pretending to be a director of comic-book entertainment, when he’s really out to excoriate Americans’ greed, laziness and implicit yearning for an omnipotent father figure, whether superhero or demagogue. In a tragic coincidence, another masked man strode into an Aurora, Colo., movie house in a Bane-like gas mask during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises and slaughtered a dozen people. The killer, identified as James Holmes, hadn’t seen the movie, but he underlined its mordant thesis: that in the real America, the creature that emerges from our dreams and into the night sky is as likely to be a madman as a savior."

I'm not sure bringing up the theater massacre was really necessary, but I'll leave that to you guys to discuss. Thoughts on the list as a whole and TDKR's place on it?

Though I liked both TDKR and Avengers, TDKR is just better. It has entertainment but also a level of intellect. Something the Avengers was lacking.

Top 5 for me so far this year:
1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Skyfall
3. Dredd
4. Prometheus
5. The Avengers

Evewryone stay calm, it's just a normal day. As long as no one mentions the other major comicbook movie that starts with an A.

Damnit Nick56 what have you done?! Every man for himself!

Derpina, I realize it's hard not to be cynical when you're a fanboy, but have you ever considered we post these type of articles to CELEBRATE the fact that a comic book film has made a list like this?..no, course it didn't. Do carry on.

You mean "Frankenwinie" beat "Marvel's Avengers"? "Marvel's Avengers" didn't even make the top ten?

It's quite an arty/high-brow list which is why I'm surprised ANY CBM made the cut. Still, despite a lack of any other big blockbuster type movies most of them are great (that I've seen anyway)

WILL THESE ARTICLES JUST STOP?! All they do is start incessant bitching about "Who's better?" between TDKR and every other movie in existence. Man...

I loved this film. If you didnt that's okay but please don't start a flame war. I'm sick of this whole vs thing. Well deserved i hope it gets nominated for Best Picture. The Dark Knight deserved to be nominated also in my opinion.

And YES, I know about the whole "We should be glad that a CBM made a list like this" argument thing.

Glad to see Frankenweenie on the list. Not a fan of most animated movies, but Frankenweenie was well made and enjoyable

Mediocre list, TDKR does not deserve to be in any "best of" lists. Here are my top 10 of the year

1. Beasts of the Southern Wild
2. Moonrise Kingdom
3. Holy Motors
4. Looper
5. Killer Joe
6. Cabin in the Woods
7. Chronicle
8. The Avengers
9. Prometheus
10.The Raid: Redemption

(I still have yet to see The Master which I am guessing will be in my top 3)

2.Life of Pi
3.Moonrise Kingdom
4.Skyfall
5. Beast of the Southern Wild(this movie may be better than the rest, i havent seen it but my guess is it would make this list no problem

Although I am not a fan of TDKR, Im happy for its accolades. I have never been a fan of bale as batman, but he does play a good Wayne. I guess thats why he spent so much time as wayne and not the bat.

People, please don't bring up Avengers or "Marvelites" (God, what childish term) in these types of articles. All it does start flame wars.

BTW, be happy that a film you like is being regarded like this, but don't shove it in the face of another fanbase and act like you're all high and mighty because of it.

Personally, I would have put TDKR a little lower on this list, but if that's how they feel about it, then more power to them. I can respect that.
