END OF YEAR POLL: Who Was Your Favorite CBM Villain Of 2012?

END OF YEAR POLL: Who Was Your Favorite CBM Villain Of 2012?

Welcome to the first of our end-of-year polls here on CBM. We'll kick things off with the bad guys - Bane broke The Bat, Loki proved that all adopted people really ARE evil bastards, but which comic book movie villain made the biggest impression on you this year?

Feature Opinion

It's been quite a year for CBMs, and CBM villains. The big two were Bane from TDKR and Loki from The Avengers, but I'm sure there must be someone out there that loved old Rourke from Ghost Rider: SOV...right? Now obviously we have covered a lot more movies this year than those listed below, but we're restricting this poll to what we like to call pure-blooded comic book movies. Vote away and sound off in the usual place.

Oh it has to be Bane. I loved Loki, and Bane had weak exit in the film. But the character had such screen presence, I can't help but love him. And that voice!

Bane

Had some awesome dialogue.
Bane: Home, where I learned the truth about despair, as will you. There's a reason why this prison is the worst hell on earth. Hope. Every man who has ventured here over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to freedom. So easy. So simple. And like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died trying. I learned here that there can be no true despair without hope. So, as I terrorize Gotham, I will feed its people hope to poison their souls. I will let them believe they can survive so that you can watch them clamoring over each other to stay in the sun. You can watch me torture an entire city and when you have truly understood the depth of your failure, we will fulfill Ra's al Ghul's destiny... We will destroy Gotham and then, when it is done and Gotham is ashes, then you have my permission to die.

Bane: We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you... the people. Gotham is yours. None shall interfere. Do as you please. Start by storming Blackgate, and freeing the oppressed! Step forward those who would serve. For and army will be raised. The powerful will be ripped from their decadent nests, and cast out into the cold world that we know and endure. Courts will be convened. Spoils will be enjoyed. Blood will be shed. The police will survive, as they learn to serve true justice. This great city... it will endure. Gotham will survive!

I mean we go from Heath´s joker, to Darth Mumbler and the guy with the worse haircut in the world who continues saying the sentence "you´ve got red in your ledger".

The best character in cBm this year was The Hulk.

Ma-Ma followed by Bane (had a bitch exit).

How the [frick] does some bitch trick the GOD OF MISCHIEF and then get the [frick] beaten by hulk, like a goddamn ragdoll. dafuq. Smh.

Loki and Bane were both fantastic, but there's...just, something in Bane that led me into voting for him. Rhys Ifans' Curt Connors could've been great, but he ended up giving nothing special. He's good, but not special. Ma-Ma was another great villain, but still, she can't match up with Loki/Bane.

I'll laugh my ass off if someone votes for Roarke or Blackout.

1. Javier Bardem in Skyfall
2. Lena Headey in Dredd
3. Tom Hiddleston in The Avengers

the lizard and bane were mediocre at best, and talia and the ghost rider villains were crap.

Loki.
The Loki/Hulk thrashing at the end of the film was the best pay-off all year.

I hated the wannabe "Bane", mostly because his voice was [frick]ing ridiculous sounding and he was NOTHING look or story-wise like his comic counterpart. That thing, whatever the hell it was, wasn't Bane.

I choose either Loki or maybe The Lizard.

Bruce Wayne/Batman: You're sorry? You expect to destroy my world and then think we're going to shake hands?

@ManOfSuperguy, that was a [frick]ing emotional scene. I didn't cry but i punched a dolphin in the nose afterwards, [frick] it didn't expect a cbm to move me that much. My grandpa teared up tho, and he is a hardcore Vietnam veteran.

Give me a break the movie version could have been further from the original. Pathetic
Silentman

If we weren't just choosing cbms than Silva from Skyfall would get my vote but out of these I gotta go with Loki. Bane was great and I loved Tom Hardy in the role but I just felt like the stakes were much higher in The Avengers. I mean the guy brought an entire army of aliens to destroy the human race, Bane's main plan was to just blow up Gotham.
faver

Bane whithout a doubt. Loki was a joke. I really liked him when he was an actual character (in Thor), and not just a punching bag played for laughs. You can't be menacing if the only people you manage to frighten are common people. That's why The Avengers had no stakes at all. Hiddleston saved him from being a total caricature, but barely.

Bane may have been a glorified henchman in the end, but he was really menacing and had amazing dialogue. And henchman or no, he broke the bat.

I haven't seen Dredd yet.

I am surprised Loki is not winning this poll. The interrogation scene between Loki and Widow was fantastic and a classic cbm moment. I love the shakespearean take on Loki. Bane might have been a better villain if I could have understood half of what he was saying.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/14/2012, 9:59 AM
I'd go with Bane, although I didn't like how he checked out. Loki was great too though. Ma Ma was a sadistic bitch! Great villain too. The Lizard was a [frick]ing joke.

Loki was good. But Banes lines in the film were concrete. Loki should have been more menacing and powerful. That bullshit with the hulk was bullshit. But anyway BANE IS WINNING,

I voted Bane. I like what Tom Hardy did with the character. His character was successful in creating destruction and providing a physical threat to the hero... and he's fun to impersonate. With that voice, you'll be the life of the party.

Tom Hiddleston's Loki Laufeyson was just a pleasure to watch and better villain to Earth's Mightiest Heroes than I expected. Joss Whedon did a great job writing that Elizabethan dialogue. Loki is obviously a franchising successful. He's so likable, more than ever before. You actual root for him in a way, his motivation was very relatable.

Rhys Ifans' The Lizard was there for the climax, LOL. He was a threat for the hero to beat. His Curtis Connors was successfully connected to Peter Parker. Ifans has a very eloquent voice, I have to say. In the end, he left his damage (killing Captain Stacy) and provided an emotional conclusion.

rockerdude22
rockerdude22 - 12/14/2012, 10:33 AM
Both Bane and Loki were awesome, but I voted for Loki. To me, he was just a much more enjoyable villain, and I could understand his motivations better.

Bane was awesome up until the reveal that he was just a pawn. I mean, they built him up as this scary and threatening villain throughout the film, and then just made him look like a henchman in the end. To top it off, they gave him that weak and short death. I think that really took away from his character.

I mean sure, Loki was just being used by Thanos, but it didn't take away from his character as much as Bane's. Just my opinion.
Visualiza
Visualiza - 12/14/2012, 10:46 AM
Bane will win because there are just too many people dorking out over TDKR to be objective. This wasn't a particularly strong year for villains, but even still, Bane was definitely towards the bottom of the barrel. Polls like this shouldn't even be asked, because the underlying question really ends up being "Which CBM blockbuster was totally the most awesome!?!?"

People can't separate a good movie from a bad villain, and will vote accordingly. Just another popularity contest, nothing to see here.
