Ashes to Ashes is an independant short fan-film based on the Batman characters and on the graphical universe of Frank Miller’s Sin City. Original screenplay by Samuel Bodin and directed by Julien Mokrani & Samuel Bodin, made for 10 000 euros.

Its quite long but well worth the slog i think. Its also EXTREMELY graphic, so if you are under 18 or easily shocked i would give it a miss. I have a feeling people are either going to love or hate this as its quite a radical take on these characters. Anyway, enjoy!

just like batman stories and graphic novels.. the lore can be veiwed by any imagination and interpreted in many different ways.. i love it!.. and i wish that hollywood and movie goers would accept this concept.. this would allow for more different types of bat films to made!

i loved it.. even if batman was a bit whiney hehehe.. well done!

This is hands down the best portrayal of Batman i have ever seen on screen. Hollywood should take notes. You see, the french have such a "noir" view and aren't affraid to put it on film. It reminded me a lot of "Renaissance" with a dash of "Vidocq" in terms of atmosphere and grittiness. I'd love for a Hollywood director to exploit the french view of Batman, but even Miller can't get that gritty. He'd need to team up with a frenchie to really capture that kind of essence. And it would be amazing!!!

Interesting! Loved the overal feel, but they could have shelled out a few more bucks and given Bats a long sleeved shirt and some gloves. ;-)

Yeah i really liked the take..but its a Batman i wouldnt root for. Millers take is just about as violent and sadistic as the character should get i think. Any more intense and he ceases to be a hero. But its very interesting and expertly made.

don't get me wrong, it was pretty awesome. I have always wanted someone to show how sick the Joker really was. But that sex scene was a bit much. maybe if they left out the baby part. I coulda done with out that. that kind of stuff shouldn't even be in movies. Reminded me of this other french movie I saw called ireversable... I hated that movie because it wasn't batman themed

This makes the Robin fan made trailer look like a turd on a stick, dipped in kerosene and lit on FIIIIIIIIIRRREEEEE!!!!!! :)) Granted the sex scene was a tad much but fitting none the less. Kinda tired of people thinking that Arkham's inmates don't have dicks ya know? And yes Roar, this Bat's not something you "cheer" for per say... but they have superman for that LOL :P

The sex scene...i dunno, prob was just put in to shock. Although, The Joker has claimed to have done worse in the comics, we just never see it. Like Jordan said, the French do it quite a bit! They also make some amazing movies. Irreversible is worth seeing ONCE, and no more, that movie stayed with me for a long time and not in a good way. Brotherhood of the wolf is a must see as is La Haine.

But they may have finally gone a bit too far. Im not easily shocked or revolted but i watched Martyrs the other night and literally threw up. Its not a movie, its an endurance

I found this movie too.

I did consider putting it up on my fan site, though i like the concept behind the movie and i love the overall mood and style - it is a bit much in places.

Plus the it kinda loses something being in french.

WOW! Like...WOW. Just at work right now and finally watched the whole thing. WOW. I watched it with the sound off and it was like watching some kind of amazing comic book. I mean WOW. The Joker was [frick]ing amazing. Batman looked amazing too. Sooooooo good. WOW.

The rain scene in the alley looked great with Bats beating on the joker. Very interesting.

But you guys know me. I find something wrong with Everything. KEEP BATMAN OUT OF FRANCE. Leave it to the fracking french to try and take a crack at Batman. They would complain about him being there. They would run his ass out of town. Lets not forget, Batman is an AMERICAN. Lets keep it that way.

I find it insanely immature how you guys are being racist.... like grow up people honestly.

Gentlemen

I am very impressed. I dont feel that the Joker Sex Scene was too much. Quite the contrary the Joker is a Sick F#CK, we all know this to be true and he should be represented as such.

Yes I agree Batman is American but if the French are willing to make a non censored Batman movie then I want to see it. We have all these movie ratings and censorship on movies here in the US if ppl would just educate their children more instead of treating them like pets then we could get better quality films.

@EvilEd2000 But why is it crap? Thats so frustrating! I really want to know what people think about this but theres like 75 thumbs down while most of the comments are positive! Explain your damn selves you thumbs downer peoples.

Hellmont thats true. French filmakers and censorship boards dont treat their public like morons. But while people like Zack Snyder are making movies, theres hope for you yanks yet!

AWSOME FIND ROR!! Absolutely friggin loved this. Finally something that shows Bats is just as crazy as the villians he goes after. He should be portayed like this, someone that should be feared with your life. That Joker was great too. Hes a sick, sadistic, twisted MFer and should be portayed as such. That sex scene wasnt much at all, i actually found it funny when they made the guy punch his eyes out. Reasons like this are why i love Joker, it never ceases to amaze how far he'll go, soooo entertaining.

HeyVanity
HeyVanity - 6/2/2009, 5:08 PM
awesome. i find it strange, however, that the french are the ones with the balls to portray batman that way. kinda funny haha... it was still awesome though. i didn't think any part of that was too much at all. it just seems that when american filmmakers do something like this they do it purely for the shock value and make entire movies out of it. this definitely worked for batman and the joker though. maybe someday we'll learn something.
