Henry Cavill is only the latest example of British actors hired to portray American superheroes. In their own snarky style, Fox & Friends comments on the trend.

how retard are they yes Superman is a alien. if they so outrage how comes a Japanese icon Goku was played by a American did these guy complain.

if they complain about this we might aswell start complaining about American actors playing British characters.

Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Blade, Constantine, Lara Croft, Lancelot all been played by American actors.

This is why I hate [frick]ing Fox news, Andrew Russell Garfield was born in Los Angeles, California, USA. He moved to England when he was aged four and was brought up in Epsom in Surrey. And Superman is a [frick]ing alien.

I'm fine with people from outside countries playing these heroes, as long as they capture the feel and look of the character. As long as these guys look like them and don't have accents, it's all good.
The only argument to the Superman is an alien thing is that while Superman is an alien, he was raised in America and stands for truth, justice, and the American way.

seriously this just crazy I don't think I remember the british newspapers going crazy over RDJ playing sherlock holmes. Now I want the movie to be even more successful just all these paranoid people can just shut the [frick] up.

@Dane yet he's still the ultimate outsider, and yes once upon time superman was a american icon but now he's global icon and there is no "american way" or "british way" theres only the right way

Plus if it was captain america then I would understand and why people so suprised by the fact that captain america titles being changed some countries America is not exactly loved universally as some people believe it to be.

Seriously? If people wanna be assholes, lets get one thing right. Superman is America because if you wanna get technical, every single one of us is a damn "alien", unless your Native American, your ancestors invaded this land too. Superman is a diverse character from a diff world who made his home in America and last I checked, America is America cause of Diversity. Now Captain America is America because he is the embodiment of the American spirit, patriotism and true justice, all the things America is supposed to be about. Plus he was born in America which helps too. Just like us, he has no powers to help him out but still insists on fightin those who want to hurt our country and its people, even people in this country if he has too. The reason superman is more so a symbol is because he was here first, with or witout his powers he fights, he came to America instead of China or Mexico, and lets be honest, would you rather wear the "S" shield or a giant star on ur chest. They both play their respective parts in representing America so FOX [frick] YOURSELF!

@Exiles

yeah the British paper and people had no issue for RDJ to play Sherlock Holmes. geez RDJ even played Charlie Chaplin a British icon.
Exiles
Exiles - 2/1/2011, 3:53 PM
@jazzman exactly and he's played both the roles extremely well. I mean people voicing there opinions is cool but that just came off as extremely biased and offensive.

He's actor there meant to be playing different characters, characters which are necessarily not from there homeland.

Garfield was born in America! They need to think things through. Superman was created was created by an American and a Canadian and he's an alien. Batman is the GODDAMN Batman and can be whatever he wants to be.

what does an actor do? act. what is he paid to do? act like a character.

why on earth should it remotely matter in the slightest the nationality of an actor, it makes no sense. if they look the part which he does, if he can act the part (and being a shakespearean actor) and he most certainly can. i have no doubt that he can perform superman and his american accent.

besides the point Superman is an imigrint to the United States if they really wanted to be technical no actor on this planet should get to portray superman. what a joke, fox way to whine about one more pointless detail.

Yet it's fine for an American Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Peter Pan, William Wallace, J.M. Barrie, Lara Croft, Sweeney Todd, Tristan, etc, etc, etc.
Before I get any replies about Gibson being Australian, neither of his parents are Australian and he was born in... america.

@maxleresistant
There's actualy been quite a lot. Here's the few that I can think of;

Patrick Stewart - Professor Charles Xavier
James McAvoy - Professor Charles Xavier
Colin Farrell - Bullseye
Ioan Gruffudd - Reed Richards/Mr.Fantastic
Tim Roth - Emil Blonsky/Abomination
Alan Cumming - Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler
Ray Stevenson - Frank Castle/The Punisher
Terence Stamp - General Zod
Sarah Douglas - Ursa
Susannah York - Lara Lor-Van
Nicholas Hoult - Hank McCoy/Beast
Christian Bale - Bruce Wayne/Batman
Liam Neeson - Henri Ducard/Ra's al Ghul
Alfred Molina - Dr. Otto Octavius/Doc Ock
Ian Mckellen - Eric Lensherr/Magneto
Ray Park - Mortimer Toynbee/Toad
Dominic Monaghan - Christopher Bradley/Bolt
Vinnie Jones - Cain Marko/Juggernaut
Rhys Ifans - Curt Connors/Lizard
Matthew Goode - Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias
Mark Strong - Thaal Sinestro
Tom Hardy - Bane
Andrew Garfield - Peter Parker/Spiderman
Henry Cavill - Clark Kent/Superman

I'm pretty sure that there's been more Canadian, British and Australian actors playing Superheroes than there have been american.
