Matthew Vaughn Tackling Elderly Superheroes in The Golden Age

With the experience of Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class behind him, Matthew Vaughn is apparently ready to develop The Golden Age, described as a film about a superhero retirement home.

Offers Deadline, "It's based on the yet-to-be-published comic book written by Brit TV chat show host Jonathan Ross, who’s a huge comics buff. Vaughn is currently in LA editing X-Men: First Class for Fox, but tells me he wants to get actors attached to the new project before the script is written. His wish list is Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty to play the retired superheroes who help out their grandchildren when their middle-aged parents screw up the world. Vaughn believes the success of The Expendables and Red shows that audiences are open to the idea of older action heroes. 'You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.'"

Vaughn wasn't clear what his role would be in terms of writing and directing, and whether he would be involved with either. He will, though, be producing.

This is a stupid idea. Does any one have an artistic vision any more?! This sounds like a horrible parody of Watchmen. Vaughn is over rated. Fu6k stardust!

Yeah Stardust was icky. I think most of Hollywood's I deas come from over-intoxicated producers sitting around thinking about what "is a GREAT idea!"

This one not so much. To reminiscint of the Incredibles.

So... Sky High/Grumpy Old Men... pass.

Unless... it's actually NOT going to be a [frick]ing comedy... That might actually be interesting.

i thought Zoe in kick ass was disgraceful. i felt wierd watching her like they were trying to make her almost "sexual" or "mature" like. i hated it. some ass even said walking out the theater "that litle girl is going to be soooo hot when she grows up." uh....yeah screw that film. i don't want to think of little girls like that man! "Layer Cake" was also such a wannabe Guy Richie fiim, it just wasn't as fun or interesting...

@ slaine; this is from wikipedia; "Several critics like Roger Ebert and the Daily Mail's Christopher Tookey accused the film of glorifying violence, particularly violence by young children,[47] while Tookey also claimed Hit Girl was "made to look as seductive as possible". I'm not the only one that thought that and these EDUCATED film critics concurred. if you like the film, that's cool, but i ain't no idiot for having my own opinion.

Matt, I do find the project interesting. But isn't there something else you should be making your next priority? I mean, it's only... KICK-ASS 2!

GET TO WORK ON THAT FIRST YOU IDIOT!

P.S. Though I guess since only #1's out you don't have much to work with.

Really it will come down to writing.

There are a few things they could pull from Kingdom Come, Tranquility ( If I am recalling the correct book ).

And the will kill the Comic Book movies if they don't start getting their collective shit together on the stories and acting.
