STAR TREK: Worf - The Series?

Earlier this year, actor Michael Dorn made it clear that he was developing a potential TV series that would focus on his Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine character of the Klingon, Worf. In an interview with Trek News.net, he provides an update.

"I had come up with the idea because I love the character and I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed and hasn’t been fully realized," Dorn explains. "Once I started thinking about it, it became obvious to me that I wanted to at least put it out there, which I have, and the response has been pretty amazing. We’ve been contacted by different individuals–I can’t say who and all that–about wanting to come on board and be part of this. Also, there’s all the political stuff going on with the new movies, with J.J. Abrams and Paramount and all that stuff, which I have no clue about and what it all entails, but that’s where it is right now.

"Interestingly enough," he adds, "it has gotten traction. I was very surprised, I was on a movie not too long ago, where one of the producers was basically lobbying to be part of it. He was like 'Michael, I’d love to write it, if you haven’t.' So at this point, my agents and my manager are looking at all the avenues and trying to figure out which is the best one. My agent and manager have been in the business for awhile, so they’re very savvy about where to start and how to get it going. Like I said, in this business you never know and I’ve been through pitching things and I never want to do that again [laughs]. It’s pretty brutal, but definitely I think once again, if Paramount or CBS or anybody thinks this is a viable thing, they’ll jump on it."

What are your thoughts? Would the character of Worf and the world of the Klingons be a solid basis for a TV series? Sound off below.

Dorn says that Worf wasn't fully developed. I dunno - between the two shows it seems to me that there was quite a bit of development there, ranging from his feelings about being a part of Starfleet vs. his Klingon heritage, trying to raise his son, assuming a position of command, battling his own, reclaiming his family's honor...

Two series, getting married, losing his wife, dealing with the woman who now had the symbiote that was once part of his dead wife. No they pretty much covered him. Not that I wouldn't watch it, he's an interesting character.

Why not just make a whole new TNG Show? I would watch a Worf show, but I'd rather see a whole Star Trek Show.

You can file this right next to the Capt Sulu and Starfleet Academy shows they threw out there.

i would watch, and like overtappeal said, i would watch almost anything dealing with Star Trek. I would prefer something different like a series continueing where TNG left off or a new series based on the new timeline, etc., but if all we get is a series based on Worf and the Klingons then so be it, and remember Klingons can live usually around 150 years.

I'd watch it! But honestly, I'd much rather have the Captain Sulu show. It'd be a trip watching that old queen and his hag (Rand) trekking through the galaxy each week and having fabulous adventures. Each episode would have to end with him saying, "And don't call me tiny."

I think a Worf/Klingon show that stuck to Trek caonon would be a refreshing burst of energy for the series. That is, as long as they kept the political aspect to a minimum and focused on ACTION.

Star Trek is supposed to be about evolving not regression. They need to conceive a new ST show based further in the future and stop trying to find excuses to turn the franchise into an action piece just to make it more appealing to those who find no stimulus in intelligent scifi without a space battle or fist fight!

They would be stupid not to cash in on another Star Trek TV show. Especially one from a very successful Star Trek version. THere is a huge fan following already for Star Trek why wouldnt they do it.

@Tainted87

Never noticed that was Adam Scott in that clip from First Contact. I'd be interested in watching "him" play a Klingon. :P

A Worf show would have been a good thought 13 years ago.., maybe.

Terrible idea. The world needs a new Star Trek series, maybe not for another 2-3 years though, people cant get past one series of something without having to result to watching Jersey Shore or Big Brother, reality crap killed decent TV. In my opinion there is only one way to kick off a new star trek series but that's my secret!!!!

Could be cool. I think a Klingon or Romulan centric Star Trek show would be pretty cool. I would prefer the Romulans over the Klingons. Just show the war on Vulcan and the people that become the Romulans leaving. The entire show could revolve around them trying to reach Roumulus. But, that might be too much like Battlestar Galactica.

A new star trek show is long over due.
My only fear is if you notice all good shows they cast very young and beautifully people for TV now, what I loved about all the star trek shows is that they had 1 or 2 super hot actors and everyone was average looking.

I do want to watch a new Star Trek series. I miss having Star Trek on TV. But I think that they went the wrong way with Enterprise. I think that they should do what TNG did and have a series 100 years in the future from TNG. then we could have guest appearances from the TNG and Voyager programmes similar to "Yesterdays enterprise." obviously there would be descendants.

I like Worf but I don't want to watch a whole show about him or Alexander. He was best as a secondary character.

I'm surprised they haven't tried greenlighting a Trek show around a crew made up of Kirk's offspring from all the class M planet females he hooked up with. Include a toupee-wearing Horta and it's a license to print money...ROFL

He was the best part of Deep Space 9, and after Q, the Borg, Picard, he was the best part of Next Gen. Bring on the Worf show!!

Worf was always my favorite character, he is the kind of man every man should be, honorable, fearless, honest but at the same time kind and gentle to the ladies.

There was a decent book series based on Klingons that focused on the officer that took over the ship when Ryker was exchanged. Worf was an ambassador on the Klingon homeworld. That wasn't bad.

Worf wasn't fully developed?

Maybe he goes on to be a Captain and finds it difficult to work with Starfleet admirals? Maybe he becomes a role model for other Klingons who join Starfleet? Maybe he eventually goes on to be the Starfleet ambassador to the Klingons?

I don't know. I think Worf was pretty well developed.

Meh on a Word series...always thought he was a wuss of a Klingon. Loved the portrayal of Klingons in Motion Picture and Search for Spock otherwise they have kinda wussified the species. Also liked what I was seeing in the deleted footage from the new Abrams stuff.
