A bit of new information about the upcoming TMNT origins movie from Empire.

Here is the article from empireonline.com about the new TMNT movie.

"Somewhere in a sewer under Manhattan, some half-shelled heroes were getting antsy about their lack of live-action big-screen time since their third film back in 1993. Not satisfied with the animated efforts of 2007's TMNT, they wanted something a little more along the lines of Wolverine's new movie - to tell the secrets of their origins.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, apart from turning the Empire State Building green today, it has been announced that there will be a brand new installment set for screens in 2011. Bringing Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael back to the masses - after a hiatus spent "eating pizza and stalking April O'Neil" - along with their ever-zen sensei Splinter, there will be Ninjutsu moves, foot-soldiers kicked to the kerb and weaponry galore as the green crime fighters return. We're guessing.

The film will be produced by former Legendary Pictures bigwig Scott Mednick, who is currently hard at work on Where The Wild Things Are, and TMNT's Galen Walker. It will keep close to the original character source material created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, which first appeared in a 1984 comicbook and quickly stormed the TV, toy and movie markets of the late 80s and early 90s.

Despite a successful resugance in 2007 with the animated TMNT, producers are keen to tap into the new methods of CGI, such as face replacement technology, to make a live-action movie much more realistic. At least, as realistic as a story about mutant martial-arts-loving, pizza-eating reptiles can be. Cowabunga, dude!
Emily Phillips"

I personally can't wait for this movie. With the producers of Where the Wild Things Are working on this, judging by what I've seen in the trailer for that movie, the Turtles are in for one heck of a major shell kickin' comeback.

FALCONX2-

I agree, awesome news!!!

GRIF-

From what i've heard it's a REBOOT. They are going to start from the beginning all over again and they plan on making it "darker" to reflect the comics more.

The darker tone from the comics will be nice but i'm guessing it wont be as dark they will have some of the cartoon elements in there as well for the kids, manly there obsession with pizza which was not in the comics what so ever.

my guess is this movie will be down the lines of the first turtles movie which IMO is the best of the three because it pulled right from the first few issues of the comic series.

This is cool I guess but I don't think it's necessary. The original live action TMNT movie is STILL the BOMB DIGGITY even after nineteen years... HOLY CRAP I can't believe it's been that long!!!

THEY NEED TO DO IT LIKE THE ORIGINAL BLACK AND WHITE COMIC BOOKS, GRITTY, REAL, VIOLENT AND BLOODY..ENOUGH OF THIS HEROES IN A HALF SHELL TURTLE POWER..MAKE IT BELIEVABLE, WHAT WOULD REAL MUTATED BADASS TEENAGERS WHO LIVE IN THE SEWER SYSTEMS OF NEW YORK WITH EXTREMELY WELL HONED NINJITSU REALLY BE LIKE?
Osiris
Osiris - 4/27/2009, 11:06 AM
@KingCold420

they wont ever use Bebop and Rocksteady in the movie's due to licensing issues Peter and Kevin don't have the rights to use them, which is why we got saddled with Toka and Razar in Turtles II.

I dont realy see the need to go much darker or real..its a movie about 4 mutant turtles for gods sake! How much gritty realism can you put along with that? I know the early comics were quite a bit more violent but i actually preffered the newer, multi colored bandana version. The cgi movie was perfect in its tone..it just let itself down a bit at the end

LEEE777 - 4/27/2009, 12:41 PM
Well if it has to be a REBOOT, just a few flash backs, everyone knows the origin now ffs!!! An they already know APRIL and CASEY JONES!!! I still think a lone CASEY JONES would be a cool movie! Maybe a spin off heh! AS for the CGI version, i thought that was crap! Fell asleep through it, an i don't do that for any movie! Thumbs up for a new LIVE version!!!

I loved the live action stuff, the first movie was by far the closest to the comics. I really hope they reach back to those references, it was the those books that got me into TMNT in the first place. Granted I grew up with the cartoons and all that crap, but in reality, I just want the real Turtles, not the Saturday Morning cartoon versions.

And I agree LEEE777, The Tick needs a comeback! I loved the cartoon, I saw some of the live action stuff too and was really good, would be a nice balance to all this gritty-esque comic book movies coming out.

Oh, and...
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

once again if any of you ever read TMNT's "Old Man River " series you can see the full potential of how "dark " and stylish the turtles can get. That was my favorite. some jackass crack head stole my whole collection with nothing but the best in it/4boxes full. I hate him. Hell the turtles didnt even talk in that set of books, and the Shredder was more a a black/arts samurai in that one. epic.

I thought the 2003 cartoon was better..at least i did as an adult! Nothing will compare to my love of the original cartoon as a young un. But the new one was definately closer to the original comic and quite a bit more violent

@grif

Yeah that does suck the Technodrome would be awesome to see on the big screen, i always liked trying to get through it in the old school games it was always full of traps which made it fun.

It would be cool if they could maybe buy the licenses to use Rocksteady, Bebop and the Technodrome, they could have the drome under the TCRI building where the dimensional warp is located.

considering the comics were more down to earth then the 89's/90's toon they prob wont use it, they prob wont send them to another dimension like in the comics/03 toon either which is something else i would like to see done, Fugitoid FTW.

@Ror1

I loved the 03 toon just as much as the 80's/90's one and it was a lot like the comics which is why as an adult i liked it because i now know the source material and back in the 80's i didn't.

the tone from the original live action movie is a perfect way to go. dark yet comical. and i hope that the turtles in the new movie arent completely cgi. i was diggin the costumes from the first movie. only part of the costumes from that movie they shud upgrade or use cgi on are their mouths. the anamotronics (however u spell it) used back then wouldnt fly as realistic nowadays, but everything else about the costumes was on par.
GUNSMITH
GUNSMITH - 4/27/2009, 8:29 PM
I LIKED THE COSTUMES TOO, NOTHING IS BETTER THAN PRACTICAL..CGI IS TOO NOTICABLE NOWADAYS..THE AUDIENCE IS SMARTER.STICK TO COSTUMES.
