Sam Worthington Reveals Filming Date For AVATAR Sequel

In an interview with an Australian radio station, Avatar star Sam Worthington has spilled the beans on the future direction and schedule of the science-fiction series, and revealed the gruelling filming schedule that may be ahead of the cast.

Worthington was interviewed by Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli on their breakfast radio show in Australia when the subject of the sequel to the James Cameron directed mega-hit came up. Considering so little is currently known about this much anticipated but somewhat secretive project, Worthington was fairly forthcoming with answers.

When asked about when 'Avatar 2' would go into production, Worthington stated that he expected the filming of the movie to commence in October, 2014. It would appear based on what was stated in the interview that a lot of the writing process for the second part of the 'Avatar' quadrilogy has already been completed by James Cameron.

Worthington, who plays the central character Jake Sully in the sci-fi series, also stated that Cameron is currently engaged in a great deal of pre-production preparation, with Worthington rather cryptically stating that Cameron was currently "building the ship to Pandora". This appeared to imply some sort of preparatory work on the film rather than a physical process, but it wasn't entirely clear what was meant by it either.

Worthington also stated that once filming on the 'Avatar' sequel begins that the second, third and fourth films will be filmed in their entirety within a year of the beginning of the production. This would be consistent with the mooted release date of the 'Avatar' movies, with the second film scheduled for December, 2016, the third movie expected to be released one year later, and the third in December, 2018.

When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.

I'm still not sold on how good this movie is according to everyone else that has seen it, Ive seen it twice and thought it was decent but people make it out to be the second coming of Christ.

And I'm personally not a big fan of back to back filming.

I liked the first one. This should have been a trilogy though. I don't feel the need to watch 3 more of these films.

Worthington's career really burned out quickly. He had this quick ascent into every blockbuster movie known to man and then, because so many were duds, he's not getting roles anymore.

He's like Taylor Kitsch in that sense. I bet Worthington is really grateful for Avatar because that may be the only movies he'll be a lead in for the foreseeable future.

It's a shame because I didn't think he was a bad actor, just sort of bland and chose bad projects (except for Avatar of course).

Why people gotta rag on Sam? He's a good actor. Terminator Salvation was awesome! Him and Bale together was a great combo. Although I didn't like the first Avatar, I'm sure I'll give the sequel it's chance.

Remember when everyone thought Sam Worthington was going to be the new Hollywood star? The [frick] happened? Haven't here from him in ages...and Avatar was shit.

The first one was impressive from a technical standpoint, but the writing wasn't that great or original. Cameron should hire some real writers to take this to the next level.

This isn't really comic book news, and the movie isn't even that good... It's only good because it was new to the fans of Titanic, which with all respect are an older audience who never seen a graphics card maxed out before.

I watched the first one and loved the visuals and found the story to be decent. I did consider it to be a bit of "Dances With Smurfs" but the visuals alone made it worth the money. That being said, after watching it (and enjoying most of it), I have never had the slightest urge to watch it again. I don't know why, but that always struck me as weird.
