Kevin Feige Talks DOCTOR STRANGE, A Female Solo Movie & Announcing Future Films

Movies.com Chatted up Marvel chief Kevin Feige about and Marvel's future plans. One regarding the potential for a Doctor Strange movie, a female-driven solo movie and when Marvel actually intends to announce the movies they have planned for those empty release dates in 2016 and 2017.

Earlier in the year Disney revealed two new release dates for Marvel movies without actually saying which movies they were. Those dates are May 6, 2016 and May 5, 2017, and while many thought Marvel would reveal those Phase 3 movies at this past San Diego Comic Con, they did not.

So then when, exactly, will they be making those announcements? And will one of those movies be Doctor Strange?

"Doc Strange, as I've been saying for years, is a movie I believe we should make -- we're just figuring out how to make it a great movie. It is in active development right now," Feige told us. "Whether that's one of the movies we announce for 2016 or 2017, we have to see. I think it'll be the middle of next year before we announce officially what the post Ant-Man films will be.

Perhaps saving those reveals for next year's San Diego Comic Con? "Maybe... stuff might happen before that. It's too early to tell."

What may or may not be part of that 2016/2017 plan is Marvel's first female standalone superhero movie. It certainly feels like Marvel is building towards one, especially since the female heroes in their movies now are being given a lot more to do. But when will they take that chance? When will they break out one of their many fantastic female superheroes and give her a solo movie?

So they asked Feige straight up whether Marvel will deliver fans a solo female superhero movie before DC. "Good question. I don't know what they're doing or what they're planning,' Feige said. "I know we have numerous exciting female heroes, whether none of them are currently slated, some of them are in development -- frankly, you can look at what Jane Foster does in [Thor: The Dark World], look at Pepper Potts literally saving the day and defeating the bad guy in Iron Man 3, and I'd say we already have great female heroes that are showcased and play major roles in our universe now. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as you will see, features Black Widow in her biggest role yet in any of our films. In terms of a solo standalone female hero, I'm not sure when that will be. We make two movies a year, we've planned through 2015 and we have some ideas of what we're doing in 2016 and 2017, so we'll see what happens."

I think this is the downfall to Marvel. They need to strike the iron while its hot. Making two movies a year and one of those movies being a sequel is a waste of resources. Marvel should make 3-4 movies a year. Save the blockbuster big budget movies (Avengers, GOTG, Captain America, ect) for the summer, then have one or two smaller projects (Punisher, Heros for Hire, Black Panther), for the fall or early spring. At the pace Marvel is going, we wont get to see some of the other popular Marvel characters until 6+ years down the line.

Ms./Capt. Marvel would be great as long as they don't cast Ryan Reynolds to play her.

We already have a Captain, so Ms. Marvel is what it should be.

Of course Marvel could get some "jokes" out of the confusion of who the characters are referring to when they say Captain. So who knows

The "creative" hatchet job they did on IM3 doesn't bode well for the future - Iron Man is supposed to be "IRON MAN" not video controller dude. Further, how many females need to save the day for Hollywood to get its "inclusive" fix before these heroes (largely white heterosexual guys) are portrayed as racists geeky morons (like almost all TV shows these days). I am waiting for the first Transgendered Minority Islamic Superhero so PC Hollywood can have an Orgasm for the ages.

BlackHulk - The downfall to Marvel is that they give us two movies a year? I'd say two big budget blockbusters is plenty for them to handle. Just because they're owned by Disney doesn't mean they have the time nor resources to do more than that. And two is two more a year than what we get from DC most years. I don't think it's a downfall at all. I just think you're greedy.

Dinotron

@BlackHulk do you know how unrealistic that is? Making two films is tough enough if they want the quality they have been putting out thus now and te cost is way too much. If they want more heroes out there they should just develope some live action tv shows cuz every character isn't getting their own movie. It's too expensive when that money could go to the bigger blockbuster hits and not every tv is a way better format for a lot of those heroes

They should make Ms Marvel and Captain Mar-vell in a duo film. I think that is the best idea. But in realty they have already done well with females in teh MCU. But yeah ms marvel is a must make. Nobody should get mad at marvel for not making a female lead. Because A female lead movies are hard period. B they have a lot of just flat out better properties to make then their females. And C wonder women hasn't even come out yet, so why get mad at marvel?

Make a movie were Capt Mar-vell and Carol are together for some fighting, then Capt can die, and have her be the main character. They it opens the door for Quesar and such.
