Glad to see they're still honoring Peter after all this time. Miss him, but I love Miles. Best Spider Man to me right now, and only Ultimate title worth it at the time.

I hope they introduce Miles to 616. He's become a really great character. I hope Kamala does the same with Ms Marvel.

Wait, why relaunch it at all then? It's been known as Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Comics: Spider Man, and now 'relaunching' as Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man. If it's Bendis still doing the writing I seriously don't see any reason for this.

Take two:

Another relaunch? How shocking.
Someone better warn Marvel – Superior Spider-Man is about to hit it's 30th issue. Sales are SURE to plummet as reader complaints about overly complicated continuity are sure to rise!

I still hope they bring Peter back someday. I'm a big fan of Miles Morales and I do want him to stick around, but it'd be nice if Peter came back and they maybe teamed up or something. Won't hold my breath for that though.

Bunch of doo doo. Quit calling him Spider-Man and give him his own superhero name. Time to stop riding the coattails.

They aren't going to bring back Peter in the Ultimate Universe. This is where people can stay dead. Also he's already teamed up with the 616 Peter. Miles doesn't need to be in Peters shadow.

As to introducing Miles to the 616 verse? Um since Miles has traveled to the 616 verse, do you honestly think they are going to make Miles 616 version just like his Ultimate counterpart.

I'm just glad to see a jumping on point.

It's like having the comfort of knowing there's a tramp stamp above the crack, ready for you when you have to pull out and pop.

Your points (made in the Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel article) were brilliant.

". . . and also it kinda takes the idea of certain truly long running arcs out of play. like the kind of stuff that ends up happening sort of by accident, over time, and the result of team changes that pick up where someone else left but then find old stuff to make relevant again."

I've been dancing around THAT exact point for a couple of weeks now. But it wasn't until you articulated it that I realized that THAT is, and has been, my number one complaint with the marketing that's taken the place story telling. Sure there have been some great arcs. But the random collision of writers riffing off of other's storyline threads, has been obliterated.
John Byrne was a fantastic plotter. His overly verbose dialog could have used some tweaking, but the point is that his story telling was a perfect mix between mining nuggets from the past and moving the Marvel 616 universe forward. Mind you, I'm NOT saying that Byrne was Marvel's finest writer, or that this particular writer or that one sucks. I AM saying that isolating story arcs like they've been doing is bad for comics.
The main result is that it disenfranchises longtime readers. There are those that would say that's just to bad - roll with the times Grandpa. Fair enough. But I suspect that the industry can't survive selling $3, $4, soon to be $5 comics to pre-high school age kids who don't have the disposable cash to support the habit.
As for my part, the Marvel Masterworks are FINALLY starting to reprint the bronze age comics. As I started reading/collecting during the back half of the '70s, there's a boatload of stories I never read. That's where my money's going.

This is the 4th relaunch of Ultimate Spider-Man. Bendis has been with the series the entire time though. They just keep doing events like Ultimatum, Death of Spider-Man and now Cataclysm to force a renumbering on the series. It'd actually be great if this were the only Ultimate title so that Bendis would be free to write without constant interruptions from events (like United/Divided).

So if the Ultimate universe is where heroes and villains can actually die and stay dead, then are they introducing new heroes? Like, not just new people in Spider-Man's suit?

I think this is what is causing all the uproar over there never being super heroes of color. We still have all the same white super heroes from 50 years ago and somehow they have barely aged. If we accepted that death was a permanent part of the real Marvel universe then we would probably have tons of diversity all throughout the Marvel universe.

Funny how Miles is single handedly holding the Ultimate universe because really without him right now, it'd be shit.
