Alexandre Desplat Signs On To Compose STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Score

We don't know very much about Gareth Edwards' 2016 Star Wars spin-off, but we do know that the Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) has come on board. Check out more details after the jump.

With Gareth Edwards' Star Wars spin-off Rogue One officially moving ahead, a few more details about the project have begun to surface. In an interview with Radio Classique's Culture ClubFrench composer Alexandre Desplat revealed that he will reteam with Edwards (both worked on last year's Godzilla) to create the soundtrack. This is an interesting move by Lucasfilm, as it marks only the second time John Williams has not scored a Star Wars film (the animated film The Clone Wars was the first). But with Desplat coming off an Oscar win for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel, however, he's a high quality choice to put a new spin on the franchise. Star Wars: Rogue One hits theatres December 16th, 2016.

You know, I'm ok with them not using the Williams theme in spin offs. Just use it in the main series you know?

Yeah, I'm okay with them not using the classic score in the spin offs.

They still could, just cause its not John Williams doesn't mean they can't.

I hope that the spinoffs deviate from the core films, that way it's different and exploratory

@DrunkenNukem
Agreed!....for the episodes

But i can't lie....a change of pace, tone, and score for the spin-offs could be awesome too.

I'm trying to wrap my head around a Star-Wars movie without John William's score (though they'll at least keep his main theme, obviously).

Hopefully he does better work than he did on Harry Potter. Those scores were pretty bland.

His work on the two Deathly Hallows was epic. @ImTheDoctor They fitted the story pretty well.
