Kevin Feige Discusses Black Panther's Allegiance In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

In another interview promoting this month's Ant-Man, Marvel president Kevin Feige has once again discussed the inclusion of Black Panther in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Who does the T'Challa stand with: Iron Man or Captain America? Find out after the jump!

One of the major aspects of Marvel's 2005 Civil War storyline was that now iconic tagline, 'Whose Side Are You On?', and it's an element carrying over into its cinematic version next year. Though we've known that the King of Wakanda, Black Panther, is set to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War, his role in the film has never been made very clear. Now, Kevin Feige has revealed where T'Challa stands -- not with either of the major players, Iron Man or Captain America, but as an independent party. When asked whether Marvel would continue to introduce characters in their own solo movies, or shift to kick-starting them in other movies, Feige explains that "it always varies, it really does. It always depends on how the timing works out. It depends on what stories we want to tell."

In the case of Civil War, he says, "we needed a third party, we needed a character who wasn't on either Captain America or Iron Man's side, which is why we went, 'You know what? We’re doing a Black Panther movie, but it would actually be smart to have him fill this role we need in Civil War and introduce him here first.' So it always just depends on the story and the way we want to tell the story." So don't expect to see Black Panther standing side-by-side with either Steve Rogers or Tony Stark; instead, the Wakandan will serve his country's (and his own) interests. This sounds similar to the role that Doctor Strange played in the comic book event, as the Sorcerer Supreme removed himself from the equation and remained neutral to the conflict. What do you make of Black Panther standing independently in Civil War?

@DrDoom

Considering she blamed Stark for the death of her parents and his missile caused a traumatic event in her life I think its safe to assume shes on Caps.

Black Panther is the Wonder Woman to Civil War's BvS.

Both of them are royalty from hidden nations who arrive in the outside world just in time to become embroiled in the ideological conflicts of the two main heroes.

Heard from someone who attended the Essence Fest that Ava wasn't hired due to the fact that they wanted to "tone down" T'Challa's African roots. Don't know if there's any truth to that but if so I'd say that is a completely stupid reasoning when we've got characters like Thor embracing all of his Asguardian backgrounds.

This news from Fiege also makes me think that all of the directors we had in mind may actually not be candidates to take on this film. The humor from most of the directors we loved comes off as a bit too mature, they'll probably get the "Dope" director to take it on.

To those wondering, Tom Holland is only filming on Civil War for about a week. That's about the same time as Paul Rudd filmed. That means Spider-Man will only be a cameo appearance.

Black Panther will be the true third party.

Can't wait to see Panther fight a) Cap; b) Winter Soldier; c) Ironman; and d) Zemo and his goons.

I want to see a fight scene between Cap and Panther.
I think that would be pretty insane to see.

@WakandasSoul Maybe he joins the Avengers at the end of Civil War and remains an Avenger In Infinity Wars part 1. All that time he is absent from Wakanda causes civil unrest back home creating a possible challenge to his throne. So he goes home in his solo move to deal with it. Just a quick theory.
