Green Lantern Plot Update & Cameos

A reliable source has given a rough draft for the upcoming GL movie...

Well whether fans like it or not, Ryan Reynolds is Hal. Now, all we can hope for is a decent plot and script.

Empire is reporting this bit of information...

Here's what we know about the plot - at least from early drafts of the script. Our man Ryan Reynolds will play the second incarnation of Mr Lantern, namely, Hal Jordan, a one-time test pilot who is given the all-powerful Ring and its charger - a lantern - by crashed and dying alien Abin Sur. The alien was attacked by supervillain Legion, and has to appoint a successor by giving the ring to someone "honest and born without fear" (in the comics; but that sounded too much like Daredevil, so it was later retconned to "someone who would overcome great fear"). We'll see a love interest in the form of his boss, Carol Ferris, with whom Jordan was on-again, off-again for a couple of decades. The Lantern who preceded the famous Jordan (actually the second incarnation of the character), Alan Scott, is rumoured to appear in the film working for the government, so that's nice too. Regular sidekicks Thomas Kalmaku, alien Tomar-Re and most of the Green Lantern Corps, an interplanetary group of heroes, are also set to appear.

First it was set to start shooting in September, then November, but now we are reliably informed that it will start production in January 2010, with a reported budget of $200 million big green dollars. Reasons for the delays are many and varied, but the nub of it is Reynolds' new interim role in the Rodrigo Cortes indie 'Buried', filming in Barcelona, the premise of which involves a kidnapped man waking up in a coffin. After that, he'll be ready to go flying about the universe.

A release date is currently set for June 17, 2011 - which makes for a fairly tight schedule but should be do-able. That sets it a full month after Marvel's Thor, two weeks after Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom Of Doom and a week before Cars 2 according to current release forecasts.

Plus the rumour of a superman cameo is still intact but in the form of Clark

At least it looks like they are gonna try and have some continuity

Heres hoping, Teabag

As long as Reynolds plays his role seriuosly and isn't just there to make a million and one jokes it might be okay.

I like the idea of having Alan Scott make a cameo.

They MUST have cameos from other DCU characters if they have any hope to have their own movie-universe.

Ah...some positve Green light on the horizon of this film. I hope the film deals with Legion first instead of diving head first into the Sinestro corp. plot.

LEEE- As much as i'm not comfortable with the idea of having Reynolds be Hal, and as much as i thoroughly hate the idea of the screen writer keeping Reynolds's Hannibal King performance as a reference, NO MATTER how much shit they spew all over this concept, it still seems better than the Gi Joe film until a trailer proves it, as many past trailers have proven Gi Blow's epic shittiness.

I'm actually a way bigger fan of Green Lantern than i am Thor but, my money's on the God of Thunder!!! Love the cameo ideas BTW.

@dellamorte i could be wrong, but hal is known as the greatest green lantern to ever live, but the ring is powered by the users imagination, so thats probably why his seems more powerful

i think ryan reynolds might possibly do a good job. he was pretty serious in smokin aces which is one of my favorite shoot em up movies ever. but im nervous still. plus its retarded that hes deadpool and GL. i say pick one

@ Corndog- He is known to be the greatest lantern to live because of the things he dealt with to be where he is ... He is suppose to become the leader of the Blue Lantern Corps....
Shaman
Shaman - 7/15/2009, 1:15 PM
brycied- No matter how big of a fan he is, he's not stupid. He'll take Hal. Fox is reboots and rapes. WB is more along the lines of financially secure. Marvel would've been best though.

the only serious role i have ever seen reynolds being serious was the amtyville horror, but other that... i have doubts of his performance as green lantern. it should of been aron eckhart as green lantern, and not some jokester.

Before Batman, Michael Keaton was a comedic actor. Hell, he was in Beetlejuice right before! He did fine.

And some people still consider him the superior Batman/Bruce Wayne...

Tell yourself whatever makes you sleep better at night.

He's not my choice, but I have had this argument with people.
Sad, but my point is he didn't [frick] up that movie, did he?

@ Kratos6...I agree. I have been SCREAMING this since I joined this site...Nathan Fillion for GL! He plays the smart ass, but military reserve better then anyone else. For all you unbelievers, just check out Firefly or Serenity. He plays that role to the max!!!

Ideas to play the Guardians:

May I suggest Zod himself,
Terence Stamp:

Bilbo Baggins, aka
Ian Holm

Sir Anthony Hopkins,
He would go well with some fava beans and nice bottle of Chianti

And finally,
The dear friend of Dick Jones,
Clarence Boddicker

Kurtwood Smith

i hope and pray he does the role justice. I just don't see him as a serious actor. He better tone down the comedy.

Keaton, by far the best Batman ever. Now where's my Mountain Dew, cheetos and hand cream??? Shit, i think i left them at Teabag's mom during the last sleep over. I hope none of the other guys left with them. Come to think of it... superdog did comment on the quality of my hand cream... SpideyWidey did say he was coocoo for cheezy poofs... and... i don't remember Keven removing my 2litre Mountain Dew bottle after having sat on it for 45 minutes!!! HEEEEEEYYYYYYY!!!!! :((
