A Theory on Jimmy Olsen in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

There's lots of secrecy surrounding this new Batman v. Superman film. Who will cameo? Will Lex Luthor be the only villain? Maybe this theory could help to shed some light on a possible climax to the epic superhero adaptation. POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!

As seen above, "Jimmy Olsen" has mechanical legs in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is something that I find to be very interesting... doing such a thing to such an iconic character seems risky, but it makes sense in setting up a twist of that would (potentially) affect Superman in a major way. The story circulating around the web is that Argo actor Scoot McNairy will be playing Jimmy Olsen, before The Flash was offically cast and announced, it was predicted that McNairy would be The Flash in some sort of cameo appearance, he had green leggings on for a visual-effects overlay but that was later revealed to be there to make his real legs appear to be missing (as to be replaced by robotic prosthetics). In Justice League: Doom, a loose adaptation of JLA: Tower of Babel, there is a former Daily Planet worker seemingly attempting a suicide from the top of the building, Olsen recognizes the man and Superman soon swoops in to stop the man who is actually revealed to be Metallo. Pulling a twist on this event, what if Jimmy Olsen was revealed to be the fake out as a way to lure Superman into a trap in order to defeat him with the Kryptonite that Lex generates from Zod's recovered corpse?

This would definitely be a risky move for the film to pull, especially for such an iconic character, but we've had similar scenarios in comic-book adaptations (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises being prime examples) and I think that this one could come out of left-field and completely surprise fans that were expecting Lex Luthor to be the only villain in this multi-hero team-up.

What do you guys think of this theory?

I really think that Olsen was a casualty in the destruction of the Battle of Metropolis. It makes sense because the Daily Planet building was damaged.

So instead of theorizing that he's Metallo or that he's Jimmy Olsen with prosthetics, you theorize that he's Metallo disguised as Jimmy Olsen who acts suicidal to draw Superman in. All because of green socks......yeah no

Nice theory! My only concern is the use of Zod's body to create Kryptonite. It's kinda going around your ass to get to your elbow in a sense.

I always assumed the kryptonite will be recovered from the world engine sites. It started the terraforming process and it would be quite plausible that it was completed partially; if only in small amounts. No need to overcomplicate things IMO.

And RebelVulcan brings up another great point. Callan Mulvey was allegedly cast how long ago? And we haven't heard anything about his character.

I think others have mentioned that Olsen's handicap is to foreshadow and showcase the tech for Cyborg. And, since diversity has been such a hot topic, possibly it's another way to squeeze more into the movie. Maybe... Or everything could happen the way you predicted it. Either way, thanks for the contribution!

Lmfao! Ok, let's see here. So, before this comment of mine, there were 10 comments total, 6 of which were about Jimmy Olsen and 4 were about a Marvel character actress, Elizabeth Olsen...and the article is about BvS, correct? Hahahahahahaha. Wowsers, "D"isappointing "C"omics/"W"oefully "B"oring can't even hold the focus in one of their own fans' editorials. "Pity the less fortunate, pity DC."

Lol, the fact that you took time out of your day to see whose comment was about what is pretty pathetic in itself.

One thing that is ironic is your picture and what i personally think that Scoot McNairy looks like Will Magnus (especialy on that picture.)

Before the slate was out, (if my memory does not serve's me wrong) I do believe that Greg Silverman said that they was working on Metall Men movie. But that movie was not announced on that slate.

Cyborg does not have his own comics, but is supposed to get his own movie. I think Metall Men will be created and used as supportingcharachters

Kryptonite generating from Zods corpse would actually make a bit of sense.

^This is where I got the idea of Kryptonite and Zod's corpse in the film, but it does make a bit more sense for the Kryptonite to be located inside the World Engine somewhere, maybe even on the ship that Superman crashed into Metropolis when he saved Lois' ship from getting obliterated, lots of possibilities for where the Kryptonite may get its origin from (but I love the idea that it was in plain sight the whole time in the first film, just waiting to be uncovered by someone as curious as Lex). I also like the idea that Jimmy Olsen gets his legs in an early test of the Cyborg design, makes a lot of sense with Cyborg officially being in the film and whatnot. And Callan Mulvey definitely has the look for Metallo down-pat, he has a scar below his lip that could suggest his skin is fake in the film, a lot of people seem to be leaning towards the fact that he could be The Joker in the film, but I don't know. Like I said in the description, there's a lot of secrecy surrounding this film and it'll be interesting to uncover them as the film arrives. I like the idea that the film starts right after the battle between Supes and Zod so that we can see Superman and Bruce respectively saving as many people as they can from the destruction caused.

I would hardly call Jimmy Olsen an "iconic" character.
