It's time once again for a ComicBookMovie.com Fan Art Contest! And this time, one lucky artist will win $200.00 and a copy of the Watchmen Motion Comic DVD! To have a shot at the prize, send us an original Watchmen drawing. You can focus on any character(s) or a scene straight out of the Watchmen storyline, but the art must be original and unique. Any direct copying or cutting and pasteing from Dave Gibbon's art will not be considered. CBM judges will pick the winner based upon coolness alone, so skill is not the only factor. We're giving you a lot of leeway to create some sweet art, so go to it and show us what you can do!

Here are the Details:

  1. You have from now (February 25th, 2009), until 11:59pm on Saturday, March 7th, 2009 to create an original piece of Watchmen art.

  2. Scan and email your drawing to [email protected] before the end date.

  3. Make sure you name your file with your own name (Example: JohnSmithsArt.jpg), and include your full mailing address in your email to us.

  4. All submissions will be displayed in our Fan Art Gallery at our Watchmen Motion Comic fansite located HERE.

  5. On March 9th, our crack team of ComicBookMovie.com editors will judge the best entries and announce the prize winner on our site.

There are no stipulations on what materials you use, we'll accept anything you can attach and send via email to [email protected]

This contest is open to all residents of the planet Earth. Alien submissions may be submitted but will not be judged.

Good luck!

Randomly noticed in the legalese: "Canadian residents, in order to be declared a winner and/or win a prize, must first correctly answer without assistance of any kind, a time-limited skill-testing question administered by telephone."

...huh?

more on topic: this should be an awesome contest!

CBM maybe you should also change the "HULK vs" thing:

"2. HOW TO ENTER:

ComicBookMovie.com users may enter the Hulk Vs. Fan Art contest by emailing an original piece..."

-----
VelocityRaptor: Here in Mexico you have to answer a question when they call the winner of something too. But it is kind of : "finish this sentence: comicbook____" . Because i think some laws don´t permit to just answer the phone and win something( even if you
won that thing previously).
--------
Everybody c´mon join in with your pieces!!

Sweet. Can't wait to see the entries for this one. I can't draw worth a lick so I'm not even going to attempt it. But with the sheer volume during the Hulk Vs contest, this one is going to be pretty freakin' awesome. Good luck to all who enter.

FOR ANYONE WHO WAS INVOLVED (OR CARES):
I will be posting the winners for the "GL Creation" Contest TOMORROW! Excitement abounds I'm sure. Grand Prize being the 3 DVD's from CBM and a GL fig from myself. 2nd and 3rd will be GL figs of an unknown identity. I haven't chosen which ones to part with yet. But I assure you, they will be SWEET! Not cheesy like the "New Frontier" figure, I bought it, but it's still cheesy as crap. So, be prepared and watch your in boxes, I'll be contacting those who won directly.

Good luck with the Watchmen contest, it's gonna be SWEET!

put mine up this morning (Xaosjerk aka Michael Allen), I had just finished my watchmen painting last week anyhow so the timing on this was just great. At the moment though the website seems to be showing it all washed out with the color saturation turned to nil, I'll have to mention that to the people running the contest.

and to grif a motion comic means it has been animated to move and has audio of sounds and voice overs, the watchmen motion comic is voiced by one guy so it kinda sux when his voicing over silk spectre and other women but other then that it's pretty sweet.

JuneTheMachine- Hey hey hey HEY hey hey!!!! We got killer redheds too!!!

And aswering the question by phone is CATPOOP!!!

Shaman: [Shaman is handed a salad with cat poop] I will *not* eat that.

CBM: You will eat that cat poop.

Shaman: I will not eat cat poop.

CBM: You will eat that cat poop before you talk about my country that way again.

Shaman: Fine, if I eat the cat poop, will you bring me a steak? [he eats the cat poop]

Shaman: Oh, God.

CBM: Somebody get him a steak quick.

Shaman: I'll eat the whole hunk of shit. I don't care. [he begins crying]

i gotta read the comics as well coz the rules say it should be focused on the character/s or a scene from the Watchmen story. Damn... gotta think of something really unique for this one!

So far, since "coolness" is the deciding factor, Joel Studer's by far the coolest. I mean, looking at all the characters from the Simpsons, i couldn't have picked better characters to represent the ones from Watchmen more accurately!!! His choices we're perfect and beautifully drawn! We'll just see if the ace up my sleeve is good enough to beat his hand :))

Glad you like it Rorschach01, incidentally The correctly colored version I resent is up now, which I think helps the viewer translate the composition much better than it was originally posted (I sent a jpg originally with color instruction embedded which don't work well for a lot of software I guess). I'm looking forward to seeing all the submissions that go up before the deadline. I like the quirky one on lined paper, reminds me of my high school days. (or even these days in college I doodle a lot in class)

thanks xaos, i could have drawn them a lot better, but i have a lot of stuff to do and only had a day free, so it was rushed lol, and with the characters all so small, the ink kind of bled and messed up some of the details...

I'm working on mine at the moment, a good 50% of the inking's ready. Though i dont know if i should colour it or not...i'll wait and see till the inkings done :D

Btw - what's the Time Zone for the deadline as i wont make a mistake an send it in too late :/ Thanks :)

RE: godl1ng

My interpretation is that the owl ship (what was it's nickname again?) is all like "WTF ARE THEY DOING??!!!" since he can see that Veidt is giving Doc a handjob while Doc pulls laurie in to join into a 3-way Doc thinking, "I am no longer bound by your mundane concepts of sexuality." Laurie totally looks like she's giving Adrian the feel up, don't tell me that bump under his toga thing isn't manhood!
Doc kind of reminds me of that guy from twilight zone the "To Serve Man" alien dude lol.

Erik Williams posted a darn good one, pretty decent (though the comicbookmovie.com is shameless lol) the characters in the theater looking all melancholic as they should.

David Zuckerman's is pretty brutal, I wouldn't mind seeing that flattened out to a more Matisse like feel then the perspective issues would make perfect sense for me.

Jessica Gennarelli's is fairly small but the inking is great, should try some larger B+W's.

Of course I think everyone has the potential to be great artists someday so long as they trust in their own style and decision making, and work work work at it.

deadline is the March 7th I believe, the day before my birthday heh.
