Top 10 Best Comic Book Movie Fight Scenes

The Headline says it all...
This is the list of the best fight scenes from great comic book movies!

10: Blade vs Dracula (Blade Trinity)

It's a awesome battle between two great characters.
when Drac turns into the "monster" and they start going
at it, and all the clanging of the swords, it is just classic.

9: Wolverine vs Deadpool (Wolverine Origins)

Now I’m probably one of the few people who like this movie
but this fight scene was pretty cool. Like how Deadpool
was kicking the crap out of him until Saber showed up.
Then when Saber and wolverine went back to back, and Deadpool
still beat them up was great. Only crappy thing was when
Deadpool used the "Optic Blasts".

8: Spider-Man vs Doc Oc (Spider-Man 2)

When their on that building and they are fighting over
Aunt May, it was kinda intense for me(but I was only 10).
When he threw her off, I got nervous, until she caught the
ledge though. And just Doc and Spidey facing off was cool.

7: Hellboy vs Karl Ruprecht Kroenen (Hellboy 1)

When they duel, and Hellboy just beats him around was just great.
Then when he throws him into the pit, and smashes him in
between those two enormous gears, just showed how awesome Hellboy
really is.

6: Batman vs The Joker (The Dark Knight)

This movie didn't offer many fight scenes, but the
few that were in the movie were great. When their on
the edge of the building and Batman shoots him with his
arm blades, it just showed The Joker who he was messing with.

5: Dan & Silk Spectre vs Gang Members (Watchmen)

What was so great about this scene, was how perfectly
it followed the comic. How it showed the duo snapping arms,
and showing the Dr. Manhattan interview at the same time,
it was just like the comic. But the best part was,
when they were snapping the bones of the gang members.

4: Iron Man vs Iron Monger (Iron Man)

It's just funny how Monger man handled Iron Man. He
was just beating him with cars and anything else he
could use. But Iron Man beat him because he was
smarter. He used tech to beat him, instead of brawn.

3: Snake-Eyes vs Storm Shadow (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra)

I know how everyone hated this movie, except me and LEEE,
but this was a good fight. When Snake-Eyes and
Storm Shadow fought, it showed two of the coolest
ninja's finally on the big screen. When Snake used the
bladed tonfas to beat Storm, it fulfilled my childhood
fantasies.

2: Optimus Prime vs The Decepticons (Transformers: ROTF)

Now, when Optimus beats the crap outta the Decepticons,
It proves the he is the greatest Transformer. He was
just beating them. When he ripped Blackout's face apart
it made me jumped out of my seat. But he was killed by
the cheap Megatron.

1: Rorschach vs The Police (Watchmen)

This was not only the best fight scene, it
was the best scene in a movie ever. Also, once again,
it followed the comic perfectly, besides making
him fight off more cops. When you see him take a can
of hairspray and a match to set a cop on fire, it
showed how tactically brilliant he is. Then using their
guns to hurt them was awesome. Then jumping out
of the window, and then fighting even more cops, and
beating them with the nightstick made me giddy. But
the best part was Rorschach. He IS the greatest comic
book character of all time.

So, that is my opinion of the greatest fight scenes in comic book movie history.

wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 12:06 PM
Congrats @ WYATT!! ; D

Though dude??? Wheres the BATMAN VS JOKER Burton fight??

The best of all CBM fights!!

Yeah that SNAKE EYES VS STORMSHADOW was fantastic dude!! ; )

Damn, i fancy watching WATCHMEN again right now lol.

Great 1st article man kudos!!

LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 12:16 PM
Only one correction...Optimus didn't rip off Blackout's face. Blackout died in the first movie. I don't remember who they said transformed into a helicopter in ROTF but it wasn't Blackout.

Nice list! All great fight scenes, except I have never seen the Hellboy movies but I'm guessing I should check them out. Congrats on your first article!
Bamf7 - 10/28/2009, 12:30 PM
I have my own preferances and they'd probably be in a different order but I agree with the majority...I hated what they did to Deadpool in Origins but the final fight was well done and theres a few up there I actually wouldnt have thought of! Great article wyatt1234!!! :)
joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 12:38 PM
correction...I [frick]ING LOVED GI JOE TOO!!!
gestlmutant - 10/28/2009, 12:38 PM
BAMF @ Check out the HELLBOY movies, their amazing!!

Gestlmutant @ ; )
LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 12:40 PM
@LEEE777

Sadly, iv'e only seen burton batman once, and i was 3.:(

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!
wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 12:45 PM
@Wyatt. Great first article my friend! Those are all fantastic fights. Bamf is right though, I dont' remember who the helicopter was in ROTF...bad ass scene regardless. A few others:

-Wolverine vs. Sabretooth in the tavern after the death of Silverfox

-Wolverine vs. Deathstrike in X2

-Nightcrawlers vs. White House secret service in X2

-Hulk vs. Abomination

Keep up the good work!
ecksmanfan - 10/28/2009, 12:46 PM
@ecksmanfan
I did think about including the Nightcrawler fight and the hulk fight.
wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 12:48 PM
Congrats on your first article! But we have WAY different taste in movies.

I would have swapped the Transformers, Hellboy, G.I. Joe, Deadpool and Blade choices for:

- V for Vendetta - Final fight scene
- Sin City - Miko vs. the drunk cops
- Hulk vs Abomination
- Nightcrawler vs. Secret Service
- Batman vs the Joker - Burton's film
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 12:51 PM
I personally think that Rorschach and Nightowl vs. Ozymandias was a better fight. (Loved Watchmen)

other than that, good list. I also liked G.I. Joe. (Now everybody's gonna crucify me for that statement)

congrats! your first and you made it to main!
supermarioworldE - 10/28/2009, 12:51 PM
Nice list and congrats on the first article but I think this would have been more correctly titled as "Top ten comic book movie fight scenes of the last 5-7 years."
TheGuillotine - 10/28/2009, 12:51 PM
@Wyatt- I'm pretty sure I had a nerd-gasm during the Nightcrawler scene. That was amazing!

@Multi- Oh, I forgot about Sin City and V for Vendetta!
ecksmanfan - 10/28/2009, 12:52 PM
@TheGuillotine

The reason for the 5-7 years is because iv'e only seen the newer CBM's. Mostly because im 14 ;)

@ecksmanfan

Yes, me too. i was so excited to se one of my fav characters on the big screen!
wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 12:56 PM
Great job wyatt1234!

I think the Hulk and Abomination fight should have made the list. Iron Man and Iron Monger was pretty good is I remember correctly. There was some great fight sequences in Batman Begins and TDK too.
Axl - 10/28/2009, 1:02 PM
Nice article my young friend, keep up the good work! And check out some of the earlier movies I think you will be equally impressed and dismayed!

wards - 10/28/2009, 1:06 PM
Not exactly comic book, but in the realm, the final fight between Freddy and Jason was absolutely perfect. Gory as hell, funny and way over the top.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 10/28/2009, 1:13 PM
No Hulk vs. Abomination? Really? I thought that would be top 3.
thenumber12 - 10/28/2009, 1:15 PM
A few that should be in this list IMO are...

Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin (final fight) - Spider-Man
Hulk vs Abomination - The Incredible Hulk
Nite Owl vs. Ozymandias - Watchmen

joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 1:19 PM
Ummm. . . Freddy and Jason are not in the realm at all, but nice try :)

MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 1:20 PM
WYATT @ Your sh1tting me????

Go and watch BURTON'S BATMAN man!!!!

BATMAN '89 is a [frick]ing classic!!

LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 1:20 PM
Meh! i think spidey vs doc oc train scene fight is the best fight so far. Plus Superman vs Nuclear man (moon fight) was sick for its time ... i kno i'm gonna get sanctioned for this pick tho lol
Misterfan - 10/28/2009, 1:22 PM
Number one!!!

LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 1:23 PM
Guys, I know it was a while ago.. but for me, the ultimate super fight will always be Superman vs. the 3 Kryptonian villains in Superman II. Even without today's SFX, it was pure awesomeness!
paladinn - 10/28/2009, 1:23 PM
@multi, actually, they've both been in several comics, smart guy.
http://www.comicvine.com/freddy-krueger/29-41460/
http://www.comicvine.com/jason-voorhees/29-41459/
imnotwearinghockeypants - 10/28/2009, 1:26 PM
@LEEE, the Batwing gets shot down by a (long) handgun?? That was the single really lame moment in the movie!
paladinn - 10/28/2009, 1:28 PM
It wasn't in a comic, but the wildest fight scene is Roddy Piper versus Keith david, in the alley, in "They Live".

too real !
SkunkApe1 - 10/28/2009, 1:30 PM
Paladinn @ Point taken lol!

But the fight between BATS & JOKER on top of the church is a comic book movie masterpiece!!

And i do agree SUPERMAN II fight scenes were spectacular!!
LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 1:31 PM
@imnotwearing: Dude, it was a joke. Unbind thine panties from that massive twist :)
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 1:31 PM
MULTI @ Lol! : D
LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 1:32 PM
Not Bad!

Some notes:

on Blade Trinity) The fight between them was good. My problem with Dracula in Blade Trinity was that I just wished he was more like Marvel's ultra classic depiction of Dracula. I am a huge Tomb of Dracula fan.. I have a lot of that run. That to me was a let down. This is a movie about Marvel vampires, so what would be the harm in throwing in a few fun extras like that? poop

On Wolverine) Like a lot of folks I hated the movie. I hated Baraka-pool and Im not even a Deadpool fan. The fight was brilliantly filmed and well choreographed, with top notch CGI. That's all the good I can say about that. On the other hand I could write for days about all the things I didn't like about that fight, but it's all been said many times before so why rehash. So there it is.

On Spider - Man vs Doc Ock) Please do not get the impression that I didn't like the movie. I LOVED it. It was great. It's a fine achievement. But one thing that bothered me about the fighting between Doc Ock and Spidey is that it was lame how much punishment Doc Ock was able to take. Spider-man got NUMEROUS good solid hits and Doc Ock just shook it off like it was nothing. Punches to the FACE with no blood, cuts, bruises... no unconsciousness. That was silly and it was a mistake. I know Spidey pulls his punches because he doesn't want to kill perps, but that just doesn't cover it on that one.

btw.. if bladed tonfas are your childhood fantasies, then your a man after my own heart :D lmao

DarthMulder - 10/28/2009, 1:34 PM
Great article Wyatt!

I big time agree on the Optimus fight, that scene gave me goosebumps.

I also liked:

Hulk vs Abombination

Blade vs.....reaver guy, at the end of Blade 2 (although it was silly that his glasses never broke! lol)

Marv vs Kevin in Sin City

The Immortals attack in 300

The temple fight in Batman Begins
Runefyst - 10/28/2009, 1:35 PM
Now how can you talk about BEST comicbook fight scenes with out mentioning BLADE?

NubaX - 10/28/2009, 1:35 PM
Congrats on the first article MAKING MAIN no less!!!

But i can't in good conscience agree to any Nolan Bat Fight... EVER. They all sucked. Even Adam West showed more prowess...

And the Blade Trinity Drake fight sucked when compared to the Bloodbath(Now THAT was an opening!!!) or ANY fight in Norington's Blade!
Shaman - 10/28/2009, 1:37 PM
you forgot Howard the Duck vs. the Dark Overlord

and i take it these are your opinions?? sorry, i don't agree with numbers 3 and 2. i thought snake eyes vs storm shadow was greatly over rated.
CorndogBurglar - 10/28/2009, 1:39 PM
@wyatt: I know you're young, but you have to see the older movies to better appreciate the newer ones. Go see what it was like before CGI took over the scene. We wouldn't have movies like TDK and Iron Man if it wasn't for the building blocks from years ago :)

Here's a short list for starters:

-Batman (Burton)
-Superman: The Movie
-Superman II: Richard Donner Cut
-The Punisher (Dolph)
-Captain America (Salinger)
-Incredible Hulk (TV series/movies)

Here's an idea for you as well: Watch a few of the movies that I've listed and write an article reviewing them. It would be great to get the opinion of someone younger that has never seen them before. Think you're up to the challenge?
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 1:49 PM
I happen to like the new fighting style of Batman. You have to be a true martial artist to appreciate it. It's a style called kc using very unorthodox moves like elbows and short range knees and punches. Similar to muay thai, but more efficient. Perfect way to break up a body quickly.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/28/2009, 1:52 PM
Misterfan @ I just saw what you put lol!!! : D
LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 1:55 PM
ASSASSIN666- I'm a capoeirista and have been doing Tae Kwon-Do for the better part of my life and i still hate the shit out of Nolan's Bat Fights. I can appreciate good martial arts when they are well filmed which Nolan couldn't pull off if his life depended on it. You wanna see a good variation of Martial Arts styles, watch Balde2's opening hunt. It's all in the "filming", not so much in the actual style used.

Good one, Montross! The Russian fight in Jane's Punisher was AMAZING!!! And 300 should win 1st place on account of being a huge fight scene in itself ;)
Shaman - 10/28/2009, 1:56 PM
@ wyatt1234: Good article, bud. Especially for your first. Those are all great fight scenes, but I agree with the others that the Hulk and Abomination fight should have been in this list somewhere.

Oh, and definitely go back and check out the older superhero movies. Some are real classics. If you end up skipping Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, don't sweat it. We will forgive you.
BmanHall - 10/28/2009, 1:59 PM
Wyatt@ Great article dude. Though not really a fight scene I would say the big shooting scene in the alley in Road to Perdition, with all its great cinematograhy and beautiful slowmotion, one off my favourites. But then again probably not the right list to include this, just thought I would bring it up :D
lyky90 - 10/28/2009, 1:59 PM
You mentioned some decent fights, but there were so many better ones that you left out.

(in no particular order)

Spiderman(2002)- Spiderman vs The Green Goblin (last fight)
Blade II(2002)- Blade vs Nomak (last fight)
Punisher(2004)- Castle vs The Russian
Spiderman II(2004)- Spiderman vs Dr. Ock (train fight)
V for Vendetta(2005)- V vs Creedy's men
300 (2007)- the whole damn movie was a fight scene
Incredible Hulk(2008) Hulk vs The Abomination
Iron Man(2008)- Iron Man vs Iron Monger
Hellboy II(2008)- Hellboy vs Prince Nuada & the Golden Army
Watchmen(2009)- Rorschach & Nightowl vs Ozymandias

Honorable mention:
X-Men 2 (2003)- Wolverine vs Lady Deathstrike
Sin City (2005)- Marv vs the cops who gunned down Lucille.
Constantine (2005)- Constantine vs the half breeds
GI Joe(2009): Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow (like the rest of the movie, it had its moments but ultimately could have been a lot better)
Montross - 10/28/2009, 2:01 PM
Good stuff..I would swap a few for certain others but hey, everyone has different taste.

But that Keaton Nicholson fight wasn't exactly a fight! It was Batman punching the shit out of The Joker while henchmen appeared from nowhere and got hit with bells. Then Joker threw him and Vale off the side of the church..then instead of just kicking their hands he danced about and climbed the ladder giving Bats ample time to fire his cable and drag him to his [frick]ing death. Yeah, classic.
Rorschach01 - 10/28/2009, 2:02 PM
Transformers and Watchmen, nasty taste

brazilianbatman - 10/28/2009, 2:05 PM
@wyatt1234

Awesome list man.

Do yourself a favor and watch Darkman. Every fight scene in the movie is spectacular. Plus, the fight scene at the end is easily one of my favorite CBM fights!

I'll just say it, Darkman might be one of the best CBMs, to date!
ElBicho - 10/28/2009, 2:07 PM
Shaman- I agree with you about the fight scenes not being expanded, I just like the style they went with. Nolan should open the fight scenes because besides using his brain, fighting is what Bats is known for.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/28/2009, 2:07 PM
I agree with you completely, Montross.
Runefyst - 10/28/2009, 2:08 PM
On that ASSASSIN, i agree with you completely!!! The style Bale developped could be very impressive should Nolan decide to shoot it right! ;)
Shaman - 10/28/2009, 2:14 PM
All those fight where THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but wheres The Incredible Hulk v.s. The Abomination does anyone agree that this fight was good

The Incredible Hulk v.s. The Abomination

wasn't it good
MrAnonymous - 10/28/2009, 2:16 PM
Iron Man vs Iron Monger? No.

How about Clark vs. Superman from Supes III?
JohnnyKrypton - 10/28/2009, 2:27 PM
As far as heavyweights go yes hulk and abomination was fantastic.
thunderforce - 10/28/2009, 2:29 PM
- Hulk vs Abomination
- Hulk vs Police car
- Blade vs the “Ravers” ( intro in Blade 1)
- Night Crawler vs. Secret service
- Optimus vs Megatron, Star Scream, and Blackout (it was black out but plot holes left this unexplained lol)
- Wolf Predator vs any alien in AVPR
- Surfer vs. Johnny storm… I mean it wasn’t much of a fight though lol (only good part of the movie btw)
There’s just so many good ones =D

thatiscrazy - 10/28/2009, 2:30 PM
I have to respectfully disagree with most of these. But to each his own.
mativ16 - 10/28/2009, 2:36 PM
@MrAnonymous. I agree 100% that Hulk vs Abomination should have at least be put in the Top 5 best! Even better than Dark Knight vs Joker. Along with that should be:

-Optimus Prime vs Decepticons

-Spiderman vs Doc Ock

-Wolverine vs Sabertooth & DeadPool
Hulk2008 - 10/28/2009, 2:41 PM
i love a good list and I loved the Watchmen - but this list is EXTREMELY flawed in my honest oppinion. Cool to hear it though man. As much as I liked Watchmen - the Ror fight scene wasn't anything spectacular. But ups for repping it.
Keven - 10/28/2009, 2:46 PM
the spider-man 2 train fight was way better than the building fight scene
CorneliusLow - 10/28/2009, 2:58 PM
The only older batman i remember is the val kilmer one. which wans't awful. i like jim carey as Riddler. But i will definetly check out the older CBM's.
wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 3:02 PM
these were all ok fights in my opinion. i think it goes:

-Rorschach & Nite Owl II vs Ozymandias tops both of the Watchmen fights on the list,
-Starscream vs the American F-22 Raptors in Transformers 1
-Spartans vs Persian Army (300)
-Nite Crawler vs Secret Service (x2)

& if a movie counts as a cbm if the comic came out after the movie, then the rest of the list is taken up by the Matrix Reloaded, specifically:

-Neo vs first 3 agents (1st fight)
-Neo vs Smiths (after the talk w/Oracle)
-Morpheus & Trinity vs The Teleporty twins
-Neo vs time and Trinity falling to her death
-Neo vs the Oracle's body guard
-Neo vs Merovingian's body guards (the scene w/all the weapons)

that's just me though...
Godl1ng - 10/28/2009, 3:09 PM
You know what was the worst fight scene? The final fight in FF2 silver surfer. that was just awful. its a comedy, not a action movie.
wyatt1234 - 10/28/2009, 3:10 PM
never saw a fight scene where wolverine did not get owned. watchmen should have all of the top spots on this list.
grif - 10/28/2009, 3:16 PM
Montros agree whit you.
BLADE vs The Vampires in the begining of the movie, is a clasic.
SUPERMAN VS ZOD.
BATMAN VS JOKER ( TDK ).
SILK SPECTER and NITE OWL in the jail.
ROSCHAR and NITE OWL VS OZIMANDIAS.
HULK VS DOGS.

OSCURO - 10/28/2009, 3:33 PM
I wasnt all that impressed by Burton's Batman movies and what I remember of the Batman vs. Joker fight was definitely nothing special!

The best fight scene so far has to be Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock from the extended version of the movie...its as if it was ripped from the pages of the comic books!!!
joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 3:35 PM
@josh: That Spidey vs. Doc Ock scene was too campy for my taste. Spidey decked Ock at least 5 times and Doc just shrugged it off? C'mon now, that's just poor writing.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 3:39 PM
you have to have the 300 hundred fight with astinous and stelios they whooped on those guys like a train to a fly unstoppable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYSU48lHutE
SabretoothTiger - 10/28/2009, 3:41 PM
dude i also like g.i. Joe and cool article
flames809 - 10/28/2009, 3:43 PM
Please, someone make Matrix 4. :(
satanors - 10/28/2009, 3:48 PM
I dont think it was based on any comic book but come on no one said anything about the fights in Equilibrium. Some of those kicked A$$.
TheCrow - 10/28/2009, 4:10 PM
MULTI: I get that but imagine how boring it would have been if Spider-Man had knocked him out with one punch!?! That would have been the end of the movie right there, lol!

Hey guys, check out my DOCTOR STRANGE FAN CAST!!!

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=11358
joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 4:13 PM
serious watchmen sucked all day
prinzjoker - 10/28/2009, 4:16 PM
and yea what happen to hulk vs the abomination that would of been #1 or #2
prinzjoker - 10/28/2009, 4:18 PM
WATCHMEN IS A MASTERPIECE.
OSCURO - 10/28/2009, 4:28 PM
anyone say Blade vs Reaper in Blade 2, awesome.
Betty - 10/28/2009, 4:29 PM
THE DARK KNIGHT IS A MASTERPIECE.
OSCURO - 10/28/2009, 4:33 PM
BLADE VS NOMAK, LAST FIGHT. ( BLADE 2 ).
OSCURO - 10/28/2009, 4:34 PM
I haven't seen GI Joe yet.... :(
Fartman - 10/28/2009, 4:36 PM
@josh: Oh yeah, that would have been lame. But Ock has two gigantic metal tentacles, his fighting style should have been keeping Spidey at a distance, not bringing him up close IMO
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 4:41 PM
MULTI: Very good point as usual man! That is how thing have worked in th comic books after all so it would have been good to have seen that in the movie as well! Have you read Amazing Spider-Man #600? That issue gave a great explanation to whats happenned to Ock after years of being puched in the head!
joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 4:45 PM
@Skunkape... Great call on the Roddy Piper and Keith David fight in They Live... So good they parodied it on South Park! David: "You dirty mother f*cka..."
(Shot to the balls by Piper)
Banner123 - 10/28/2009, 4:57 PM
If Watchmen was done properly, then NONE of the fight scenes would appear on ANY list - because the comic had barely any action.
Quagmire14 - 10/28/2009, 5:24 PM
Congrats on the article Wyatt! Only one I would have swapped was the fight at the end of Blade 2 for the Blade Trinity one. That was EPIC.
antz1104 - 10/28/2009, 5:26 PM
@josh: I did read that one! I feel kinda like a d*ck because it was pretty funny that he was going to kick the bucket. But the 'mini ocks' were kinda overdone if you ask me
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 5:28 PM
Blade vs Nomak was my favorite fight out of the blade series.... it was very matrix like.

batman vs the joker... I can't even consider that a fight scene really... the scene was incredibly epic, but it wasn't really about the fighting..... The dark knight is more about the overall epicness than the individual fight scenes

Hulk vs Abomination is definitely an amazing fight scene, despite how much of it they decided not to do

Wolverine vs Barakapool was a really good fight. (I'm not counting the story-line in with the fight scene)......
Evil1991 - 10/28/2009, 5:29 PM
Quagmire back with his bullshit. That dude only comments about Watchmen! Its like he's Alan Moore's little familiar that creeps around the internet searching for people that liked the movie!

Dude, every action beat that happened in Watchmen, happened in the comic. Don't believe me? READ THE [frick]ING THING AGAIN. The movie did extend some bits, made some parts more violent..its a movie, thats what happens.
Rorschach01 - 10/28/2009, 5:43 PM
some of my favourites...

Sin City - Marv vs The Police
Sin City - Marv vs Kevin
Superman 3 - Superman vs Superman (in the Junkyard)
All of 300.
The Dark Knight - Batman vs The Joker (gunfight from the side of the slaughter van).

What amazes me about the Marv vs Kevin fight is that Mickey Roarke and Elijah Wood never actually met on set, and their parts were shot seperately in front of a green screen with them fighting different stuntmen then patched together. In fact most of Sin City was shot like this. Amazing.
samd577 - 10/28/2009, 5:50 PM
Can we count the Hulk vs. the avengers fight?

Watchmen was awesome, great adaptation even with the ending change.
antz1104 - 10/28/2009, 5:51 PM
@Quagmire: Let's be honest buddy, I'm not action movie lover, but Watchmen without fight scenes would have been a poor movie.

To add to my earlier list, one of my favourites from Watchmen is the first scene with Ozymandias and the Comedian.

And Nightcrawler vs the secret Service in X2. Nightcrawler was my favourite character from that moment on.
samd577 - 10/28/2009, 5:53 PM
Banner123 & skunkape-- Oh! I havent thought of They Live much less that fight scene in years! Thanks!
Betty - 10/28/2009, 6:14 PM
Good job all. Some of my favorites (mentioned before maybe)...

- Robocop vs. ED209

- Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul (awesome...btw, if Obi-Win whipped Darth Maul, why did he have such a hard time with Dooku?)

- Luke vs. Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back

- Jason Bourne vs. his opponents in all 3 movies, but especially vs. Desh in Bourne Ultimatum

- New James Bond (David Craig) in pretty much all his fights

- Fight scene in the Last Samurai in the village at night when the ninjas attacked

- All of Afro Samurai's scenes, but specifically with Justice, the Panda Bear and all the seekers of the Number 1 and Number 2 headbands...

- T800 vs. T1000 in T2 (classic)

- The final battle in the Kung Fu classic "The Five Deadly Venoms"...

- King Kong vs. the T-Rexes...

- The freakin' Braveheart battles...

- Doc Holliday vs. Jonny Ringo ("...your no daisy!")

- and finally, the final battle in the animated classic "The Fist of the North Star"...

Kudos to all the others mentioned. Nothing like a memorable battle between the good guys and bad guys...
CROVL - 10/28/2009, 6:50 PM
Blad fight scenes rocked! The Hulk vs. theAboniation were great! Peter vs. The Green Goblin was really good. Nolans BatMan had pretty bad fight scenes. I agree with MultiPurposePoni on his picks. This is tuff , i wish there was a video mash up of fights.

Congrats on your article. And all your subsequent posts. But you liked The WHimperine movie so i will read your future articles with a weary eye. Oh and where was Star Wars in that list?
shibazz - 10/28/2009, 7:22 PM
Oooh that NightCrawler scene was Epic!~
shibazz - 10/28/2009, 7:23 PM
MULTI: I agree, they seemed a little unnecessary in places and a little over the top in others. I never felt all that sorry for Ock...I still remember the SOB dropping a building on Spidey all the way back in JMS' run, lol!Im kinda worried about the reinventing ALL of Spider-Man's enemies for Gauntlet though...
joshw24 - 10/28/2009, 8:08 PM
Reinventing/rebooting/reimagining is a BIG gamble. Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon and it's getting pretty old, pretty fast
MultiPurposePoni - 10/28/2009, 9:01 PM
I actually think that numbers 10, 4, and 3 were some of the more disappointing fights. Rorschach fighting the cops was pretty cool, but I don't think it's #1 material.

The Dracula and Blade fight is definitely one of the MOST disappointing fights. I waited through all of Blade Trinity to see Blade kick some ass, and ass he does kick. But not enough. The fight was really just kinda short and bland in my opinion.
SGA - 10/28/2009, 9:26 PM
hey lets not forget about ripley vs. the queen alien in "Aliens" that was so awesome when she came out the door with that suit on. oh and nice to know i'm not the only younger user on cbm
Mileena16 - 10/28/2009, 9:28 PM
WATCHMEN indeed is a MASTERPIECE!!
LEEE777 - 10/28/2009, 9:29 PM
10. Blade vs. Dracula (Blade Trinity)

9. Hellboy vs. Prince Nuada (Hellboy 2 The Golden Army)

8. Wolverine & Sabertooth vs. Deadpool (X-men Origins: Wolverine)

7. Spider-man vs. Doc Ock (Spider-man 2)

6. Night Owl & Silk Specter vs. Thugs (Watchmen)

5. Batman vs. The Joker (The Dark Knight)

4. Hulk vs. Abomination (The Incredible Hulk)

3. Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow (G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra)

2. V vs. Cops (V for Vendetta)

1. Bumblebee vs. Rampage & Ravage (Transformers Revenge of the Fallen)

Kinda the same but the last one is debatable.

shaneman123 - 10/28/2009, 10:06 PM
Hey, how do you attach videos and images to the comments page?
Banner123 - 10/28/2009, 10:54 PM
@Banner123- just right click the freakin whatdoyacallit thing on the side that has a linker sumthing... and then copy and past that link to said video ... hell try both and just see which one works . Thats what i did. Oh and i flippin love your avatar :)
shibazz - 10/29/2009, 2:56 AM
All great except joker v. batman in the dark knight. That was the shittiest culmination of a hero/villain battle ever.
sirbonesalot - 10/29/2009, 3:54 AM
shush....hater...

joker vs. batman was awesome. shame on you! stinkin' dummy
Fartman - 10/29/2009, 4:24 AM

hawkngo - 10/29/2009, 4:59 AM
whats all this talk about batman vs. joker in burton's batman?? joker didn't even fight back for god's sake. he got puched 3 or 4 times and thrown through an old wooden wall...THATS IT! how is that a good fight? i wouldn't even call it a fight.

not that burton's batman wasn't a great movie, because it was, but seriously, any one on this website could create a fight scene with one person getting puched over and over again...
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:01 AM
CD@ True but Keatons had flair lol.....I must of missed the fight between Batman and Joker in TDK!!!!!! was it when B punched him in the chest in the apartment? hardly a fight between the two...or was it when the dogs pin bats down and J kicks him....wow epic..neither i would class as top ten :P
teabag - 10/29/2009, 5:05 AM
10-punisher vs. mobsters (dolph lundgren. the dock scene)

9-blade vs. vampires in the club (original blade)

8-Hulk vs. Abomination

7-iron man vs. iron monger

6-transformers vs decepticons (in the streets, TF1)

5-optimus vs. decepticons TF2

4-batman vs. joker's henchmen (burton's. outside the museum)

3-spidey vs. doc ock

2-silk spectre and night owl vs. prison inmates

1-nightcrawler vs. secret service (it does the best job of capturing a character's powers and fighting style, easily!)
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:09 AM
@ tea

because it wasn't good, lol. batman didn't even really do anything except get bitten by dogs and hit with a metal pipe, lol.
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:10 AM
CD@ i love your list my friend :)

I can not understand how Spidey & Dock Ock fighting is beaten by anything in TDK!?! :)
teabag - 10/29/2009, 5:12 AM
@ tea

me neither :)
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:13 AM

why thank you!
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:14 AM
@ tea

i love the scene in burton's batman when bats fights the dude with the two swords. thats classic!
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 5:17 AM
CD@ Me too love that fight....at least it was filmed right and showed some visual sparks into the mix...but this is the bit where Ror would say crap fight and he beats him with a fly swatter.....but Ror your thinking of a later fight in the Catherdral lol :P
teabag - 10/29/2009, 6:20 AM
@ tea

i love the cathedral fight too, when bats fights the 3 goons before the joker. i just loved that movie, period, lol.
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 6:24 AM
good job! i thought about doin this too. i agree wit ya burgler, bat vs joker in both bat movies weren't all that. and nightcrawler vs the agents is THE BEST comic movie fight
droopy1317 - 10/29/2009, 7:06 AM
I love the blade movies nice to see them getting some love! But I think its crazy noone has said anything about blade vs frost in blade one totally epic!

@the kid who was bashing watchmenif watchmen was done right? Dude wtchmen was amazing and in my opinion the best comicbook movie yet as far as following the material
comicboyV1 - 10/29/2009, 7:09 AM
I don't want to carry a convo from another thread onto here, but I have to say THANK YOU to whoever stated that the scariest thing about Keaton's Batman was that the guy rarely spoke in costume. I never looked at it that way, but it's so true!
MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 7:13 AM
Did I mix those 2 crappy fights up Tea;)..ah no, they were no worse than the fights in Nolan's movies, but they sure as hell were no better. That ninja fight was just a dude twirling swords and Batman blocking them..oooh but we had sparks!!! C'mon, be honest, the fights in all Bat movies were lacking, stop looking at Burton's with rose tinted spectacles. And then the second fight is the fly swatter is it? When the Joker radios ahead that he needs to be picked up vis helicopter in 10 mins..but there are magically goons up there jumping from the rafters to fights Bats! Those are some goons with intuition! Anyway, so thats when the dude jumps about like a tool before leaping at Bats , Bats holds out his arm with a fly swatter and hits him in the nuts. Awesome fight:)

hah, i realize I'm being a bit pedantic, but honestly, even as a kid the church thing didn't sit right with me. Burton directs all for style, doesn't really consider what makes sense to the plot. I just prefer Nolan's more thoughtful approach. There was actually more than enough action in his movies for me..obviously not for everyone, but I just loved watching the characters interact. It was great to actually see Gordon and Alfred in the movie, talking! And not have to worry that they were going to drop dead at any minute.(R.I.P Pat Hingle!)
Rorschach01 - 10/29/2009, 7:29 AM
Dude..Hulk V.S Abomination is the ultimate CBM Fight scene !!!
FifthSun - 10/29/2009, 7:58 AM
Congrats on article #1, may there be many more to come! I have to disagree with one of your your selections (or at least offer an alternative). One of the best fights I've seen is a Hellboy fight, but it's not from the first film. My Hellboy pick is the one between the big red monkey and Prince Nuada in 'The Golden Army'. Actually, ANY of Prince Nuada's action scenes are the TOPS (his Wushu staff forms are a thing of ART!)!!

ASSASSIN - Have to agree with Shaman on the new 'Keysi' fighting method used in the Batman films. As a fellow martial artist, I'm not entirly convinced of it's overall effectiveness. Sure, it LOOKS pretty, but in a 'real-time' situation I don't believe it's as effective as the creators claim. They state that the system was developed in 20 years of barroom brawls and 'real-life' situations, but it seems designed only for close-range offense (which is fine for shooting an action film, but in a true 'free-for-all' the concept comes up short). I've was a bouncer for over 13 years, so I have a good idea of what's 'real' and works, and what's just 'pretty'. And besides, technique only gets you so far. When two equally matched opponents square off, it's the heart of the individual that truly determines the outcome of a conflict, not which 'style' they use.
loganoneil - 10/29/2009, 8:32 AM
@loganoneil: You got a gold star in my book just for noticing Prince Nuada's Wushu style :)

But a minor correction, it wasn't staff technique, it was Qiang (spear)

In regards to the fight scenes in ANY of the Batman movies, I'll repeat what I've always said: We will never see an actor portray the a realistic combination of Batman's agility, strength and fighting technique until they scrub the damn latex suit.

Even Ray Park (Snake Eyes) said it was near to impossible to film actions scenes wearing that full body get up he had in the movie.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 8:52 AM
Correction noted - you are correct, it IS Qiang, but I was assuming that most people wouldn't know that that was. KUDOS! A gold star for you for knowing the difference! :)
loganoneil - 10/29/2009, 8:58 AM
@logan: I've been a practitioner of Northern Wushu for roughly 10 years now. Qiang and Gun are my arms of choice :)

From a cinematic point of view, I thing it's one of the best martial arts to use on film.

MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 9:01 AM
Yes, it films beautifully! Some others (in my opinion) would be Wing Chung and Kali/Escrima - some of the action scenes out of the 'Bourne' series were outright EXCELLENT!
loganoneil - 10/29/2009, 9:11 AM
blade vs nomak was a better fight then blade vs drake
jamie quinlan - 10/29/2009, 9:16 AM
VERY good call with the Bourne series! those movies go to show that close-in fighting CAN be filmed justly.

If you look at the differences between the best Batman films you can see that Burton chose to do mostly wide angle shots and Nolan chose mostly short range. Those angles emphasized the differences in fighting techniques.

And, yeah, I'm getting tired of these directors using Chute fighting/Keysi/Jiu Jitsu for these fight scenes. THEY DON'T WORK WELL OF SCREEN!

It's great that people keep mentioning the Blade/Nomek and Hellboy/Nuada fight scenes. Just goes to show Luke Goss knows his stuff.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 9:19 AM
Logan/Multi@ Some great points :P

Ror@ No one would say that Nolan didnt bring out the best in Gordon or Alfred but im sure we would all agree Batman is also about the action like it or not and Nolan just cannot direct it effectivly...Now Burton may have just been about style but he did allow us to see the action no matter how dumb you may find it :D
teabag - 10/29/2009, 9:38 AM
...but why not give someone else a shot (say, from Hong Kong maybe)? Some of the newer directors (like Donnie Yen - who's been both behind AND in front of a camera) offer fresh and exciting perspectives. I've said this before - if/when Fox decides to do another X-Men film, if they don't feel really comfortable putting a HK director in charge of such a big production, they'd be complete idiots not to at lease bring one in on second unit for the fight choreography/filming! It'd be a HELLUVA lot better than that 'hack', 'slash', 'thrust' crap they tried to feed us with the last four films!
loganoneil - 10/29/2009, 9:39 AM
Logan@ i would love to see that :)
teabag - 10/29/2009, 10:05 AM
@logan: That makes WAY too much sense for Fox LOL

@teabag: I'm your huckleberry ;)
MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 10:13 AM
if were goin with any kind of movies not just cbm's then i have to say these two are the top two

and

but then you gotta have any fight scenes with jet li from fearless and unleashed
SabretoothTiger - 10/29/2009, 10:17 AM
Blade 1&2 had awesome fight scenes. And yes They Live did have an incredible fight scene but its not a comicbook movie. It still rocked though. You dirty mutha****! Classic!
hewilldefytheirgravity - 10/29/2009, 10:40 AM
@ ror

nolan's more thoughtful approach?? like how batman and rachel fell like 30 stories and landed on a car but were both fine? and how that scene just abruptly ended right there, even though the joker was still up in the building, alone, surrounded by a bunch of people?? and how batman didn't go back up to catch him?? lol. but i look at entertainment value when i see movies, i TRY not pick little things apart, even though sometimes something just rubs you the wrong way, like you and the cathedral scene in batman '89. so i hear what you're saying.

i know what you mean about the goons in the rafters, but for the time burton's batman came out, it was much closer to the comics than TDK is to the comics now. i love both though!!!!
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 10:48 AM
For those of you that have been asking:

MultiPurposePoni - 10/29/2009, 11:11 AM
holy mother of god that looks SWEET multi! that shield looks like it took a loooong time to make
Mileena16 - 10/29/2009, 12:05 PM
There are some really wild fight scenes in "Brotherhood of the Wolf."

Another favorite fight scene of mine is the one Scottish army guy fighting the werewolf in the kitchen in "Dog Soldiers"....hitting with pot's, pans, plates, whatever wasn't nailed down.

Agreed on the Ripley vs. Queen Alien.....the best !

Any one mention Conan...the first movie ?
SkunkApe1 - 10/29/2009, 12:44 PM
@ skunkape

was dog soldiers good?? i had never heard of it until about a week or so ago, and it sounds awesome. now i want to see it!
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 1:26 PM
That was a copulation of the worst fight scenes in comic book history. ROTF? really? You could barely make out where Optimus started and the others finished. Blade initial fight scene when he off's Traci Lords is not in? Come on now
tr8cthis - 10/29/2009, 3:21 PM
CD@ Dog Soldiers is a fantastic lil movie love it love it :P
teabag - 10/29/2009, 3:50 PM
@ tea

i'll have to check it out. it sounds pretty cool!

@ tr8cthis

if you couldn't tell who optimus was when he's the only one on the screen with colors, then you might need to get your vision checked.
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 4:29 PM
@ shaman

i agree, i hate the fight scenes in the new batman movies. they suck. in the first one, he trained to be a ninja. so show him fight like a ninja. in TDK he just kind of balls up his fists and makes very rigid-like pounding motions. people can say what they want about the fighting style that they used for the movie, but its not very flashy, or martial arts looking. its actually goofy, and boring looking.

i hated batman forever, but the fight scene where bats is fighting two-face's henchmen in that party was pretty cool. bats was actually doing roundhouses, and you could actually SEE what he was doing, rather than pulling some kind of camera trickery to make things look blurred like in Begins.
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 4:41 PM
I cant put a list together, just too many!
Batman '89 has #1 though(once again i agree with LEEE) :)
Multi-:O Awesome Costume dude!
NightAvenger4 - 10/29/2009, 4:44 PM
what about Blade vs Deacon Frost!
Spidey vs Green Goblin
Hulk vs Wolvie/Thor
Silver Surfer vs Human Torch(badass chase scene)
RomeyRome2002 - 10/29/2009, 4:47 PM
Does Neo vs Agent Smith count? those are awesome fights.
gtrman - 10/29/2009, 6:02 PM
@ romeyrome

silver surfer vs human torch...that was hardly a fight.

hulk vs wolvie and thor?? you're talking about the hulk vs. movie? no way.

spidey vs. green goblin was good, but nowhere near as good as many others
CorndogBurglar - 10/29/2009, 8:48 PM
Blade vs. Nomak in Blade 2. Nuff Said!
icebergslick - 10/30/2009, 6:03 AM
@Corndog
In my opinion, "Dog Soldiers" is one of the top werewolf movies you'll ever see. Simple formula for the story, starts and doesn't let up till the end.

From what I understand, they made the movie and it didn't generate much interest. SciFi Channel picked it up, ran it, and people loved it .

Unfortunately, "Dog Soldiers 2...Fresh Meat" has had problems getting off the ground and will probably not be made.

Watch and enjoy.
SkunkApe1 - 10/30/2009, 6:48 AM
The opening to Punisher WarZone the get outta jail party
SHHH - 10/31/2009, 12:37 AM
CDB- It's actually a sacrilege to think that Schumaker had Nolan and Burton beat in "fight scenes" but it's true LOL :P

not bad.....but hulk vs abomination should have been in it!
and what about the hulk vs the two pumped up gamma dogs?

1.Hulk vs Abomination

2.Spider-Man vs Doc Ock on the train

3.Spider-Man vs Green Goblin 1-first time I saw that, it was amazing

4.Blade vs a sh!t load of vampires in the blood bath, killer soundtrack, killer action

5.Wolverine vs Mystique from X-Men 1
