Josh Trank Looking To Jack Kirby And Stan Lee For Inspiration On The FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the announcement that Mark Millar would be overseeing Fox's Marvel movie department. He will be in charge of making sure movies such as X-Men keep the momentum they have coming off of X-Men: First Class. He will also be looking to successfully reboot the Fantastic Four. Director Josh Trank will be tasked with bringing the movie to life. Millar said Trank's Chronicle was his favorite Superhero film last year, and is excited to see what he can bring to the table. "You can tell from Chronicle that it was a new way of looking at superheroes, and I think he’s going to apply that same slightly skewed way of looking at heroes to the Fantastic Four, but do it in a way that feels incredibly reverential to the Kirby and Lee stuff," said Millar. He also went on to say that for the Fantastic Four to work properly it really has to be done with the Lee and Kirby prospective.

One of the current Hollywood trends for Superhero movies is to make them more gritty. Don't expect that from the Fantastic Four. "I don’t think you could do Fantastic Four and try and make it grim and gritty," Miller explained. With most comic book movies going that direction it seems that Millar his hoping that Fantastic Four will be a breath of fresh air in the genre. I was really hoping FF would come back to Marvel.

Good to hear that they aren't gunna darken and gritty it up cause thats what almost every superhero reboot does. Good for them.

Yes, let's get back to the elements that made the Family of Marvel cool and enjoyable.

I was hoping this would go back to Marvel too. Trank MUST look at John Byrne & Hickman's run too!

I think they might show the origin scenes as if it were found footage. Not the entire movie, but just the actual life-changing incident. Would be unique.

@marvel72 Yes, I agree. Stan Lee/Jack Kirby and Jonathan Hickman run.

Ironic. I rewatched both films recently. They still hold up as some of my favorite CBM's.

My question is when will Trank direct this?? Because FOX wants to start production after X-Men:DOFP(which will be finished sometime in the middle of next year) and from my understanding is that Trank had 1 or 2 movies he had lined up before getting the F4 directing duties??

SN: No Doom on the space-station. In fact save Doom for the sequel. Let Annihilus or even Mole Man be the villain in the first movie.

And yes, Doom for the sequel, then in #3, re-attempt The Devourer of Worlds.

@Marvel87: If I'm not mistaken, when Trank was signed on to direct, it was confirmed that it would be his next project. He's also attached to direct Red Star, Shadow Of The Colossus and possibly Venom in the future.

As much as I hated Fox's prior F4 films and want to see the property back at Marvel, I'm becoming more and more excited for this. I just hope First Class kicks off a string of more excellent CBMs from the studio.

I'm a huge Fantastic Four fan! I trust Josh Trank as the director of the FF reboot. I believe Josh will stay true to the origins of the FF & the stoylines from the comics a lot more than Tim Story did when he was the director. Plus, Mark Miller use to be the co-writer of the Ultimate FF comics, so he can contribute a lot on set during filming.

@PaulRom but Red Star has a 2014 release date. They could film that in early 2014(depends on when in 2014) so more than likely, it's filming in 2014.

my villain requests for fantastic four trilogy

fantastic four - mole man & his monsters

fantastic four 2 - dr.doom

fantastic four 3 - silver surfer & galactus

or

fantastic four - dr.doom

fantastic four 2 - frightful four

fantastic four 3 - silver surfer & galactus

of course i would love to see the fantastic four back at marvel studios but as long as fox doesn't f*ck it up this time i don't mind it staying at fox.

WruceBane - 10/20/2012, 9:42 AM
of course it has to look at the classic storylines...what Marvel is doing with their comics now, upsetting the status quo in Marvel NOW, shuffling teams, and super-integrating the shared universe, they are basically limiting the stories that moviemakers not working on Marvel Studios projects can use.

They are just going to wait out Fox studios until they've used up all possible past storylines for X-Men and FF, until the properties revert back to Marvel.

I always figured if hey rebooted FF that David Tennant needs to play Reed Richards. The thing people have to remember about the Fantastic Four is that they're scientists/adventurers before they're superheroes and that they're a family before all that. It's the only way to make it work.
BlackFlash
BlackFlash - 10/20/2012, 9:46 AM
@Marvel87 - Probably the white costume as this is a reboot or they might try and merge elements from the 2. I like both so it doesn't bother me.

Here are my cast choices for this reboot: Ewan McGregor as Reed Richards / MR. Fantastic , Anna Torv as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, Max Thieriot or Kevin Schmidt as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Bruce Willis as Ben Grimm / The Thing and Cole Hauser as Victor Von Doom / Dr. Doom

suuuuuuuuurrre they are. If you believe that then I've got a bridge to sell you.

Allow me to point out that they almost always say that at some point along the way. But when it comes to this particular studio, it's almost never true.

But from a guy whose stock in trade is recycling older, better works from the past to create garbage such as The Ultimates, it is ten times more ludicrous

I'm pretty sure they need to do a reboot considering the cast will be different (especially Mr. Captain America/Human Torch). If you're going to have different actors you might as well give them a chance to have their own roles.

Anyone giving this a thumbs up or happy about this is an idiot. Won't be supporting this until MARVEL hopefully one day gets their hands on it.

FOX has [frick]ed up enough.
