BOX OFFICE: WARCRAFT Struggles Stateside, But A Massive China Debut Could Open The Door To A Sequel

The Conjuring 2 may have emerged the victor at the North American box office this weekend, but a strong international showing from Warcraft may very well make a sequel a reality for fans...

Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse before it, bad reviews for Wacraft have hampered its chances of making a significant amount at the North American box office this weekend. Instead, horror sequel The Conjuring 2 (directed by Aquaman helmer James Wan) earned $16.4 million on Friday for an impressive weekend haul of $38 million - $39 million which places it firmly at #1. Reviews have been positive and it has an A- CinemaScore, a rarity for a horror movie.

Warcraft on the other hand is looking at a debut of $26 million - $27 million, a poor result for a major blockbuster with a budget of $160 million. It has a B+ CinemaScore though, and the majority of fans do seem to be embracing the video game adaptation. However, like Pacific Rim and a number of other movies, the US may prove to be largely irrelevant when it comes to the possibility of a sequel.

The movie has been huge in China, earning a record $144.7 million in four days. By tomorrow, Warcraft will have earned $300 million worldwide, a figure which puts it in the black and could very well open the door to a follow-up depending how high it goes. We'll have to wait and see on that front, but things are looking good for the movie which initially appeared to be on the road to being a huge flop!

Saw it today. I liked it. Never played the games, the movie kind of throws a lot at you at once, but overall a good movie. Not as bad as critics are making it out to be. Hoping for a sequel!

I gotta watch Conjuring 2. Let's go Wan! You managed to direct a Furious movie that was the 3rd highest grossing film of 2015, and you managed to direct an even greater rarity, a great horror sequel!

@dannramm113 - the dude is such a great director once Aquaman comes out, and is good, his name will sky rocket in clout

@dannramm113 - I'm a horror genre fan and I just SAW (see what I did there?) the Conjuring 2.

I can tell you I liked it almost as much as the first one. James Wan is a really talented filmmaker that is improving with each new delivering. To me this is the ranking I have to each of his movies:

-Saw 8/10
-Dead Silence 6/10
-Death Sentence 5/10
-Insidious 9/10
-The Conjuring 10/10
-Insidious: Chapter 2 8/10
-Furious 7 8/10
-The Conjuring 2 9.5/10

In short, if you liked the first one, you are going to love this one as much.

Go see it and then tell me your thoughts on it.
So far this is the second best horror movie of the year to me.
The best to me this year so far is The Witch.
