James Mangold Signs On For CAPTAIN NEMO AT Disney, But What Does This Mean For THE WOLVERINE 2?

Director James Mangold has signed on to direct an original Captain Nemo film for Disney. What does this mean for the development and schedule for Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine film?

Director James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) will direct a Captain Nemo origin film for Walt Disney that will be an original story rather than a direct adaptation of the Jules Verne novel.  Sebastian Gutierrez (Hotel Noir and The Eye) is writing the script. Fearful Wolverine fans should rest easy as reports from all the Hollywood trades indicate that Mangold is still hard at work on prepping his shoot for The Wolverine sequel.   However, as luck would have, there's another X-Men director who plans on making a film starring Captain Nemo, Bryan Singer.

The X-Men: Apocalypse director has stated that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea will be his next film for Fox, following Apocalypse.  With Apocalypse set to hit theaters in May and The Wolverine 2 still set to shoot, it looks like Singer's version will hit theaters well before Mangold's take.  Another difference is that Singer's version will be based on the Verne books will Mangold's will not.  Regardless, it will be very interesting to see which X-Men director can deliver the better Nemo feature.

@Brainiac13 - Amazing, I love Batman's look but this photo makes his face especially his eyes look very weird.

Captain Nemo is one of my most favorite book characters. Hopefully they will stick to the source material and won't get some hollywood bullshit. Would be cool to see the Indian Rebellion that happened in 1857 as its consequence was the reason Prince Dakkar became the Captain Nemo. I want to believe, but it's Disney made, so... nope. =(

@ExSOLDIER - Fun fact, in Punjabi, the word dakkar means burp.

@ExSOLDIER -

This is exactly my thoughts. I love Captain Nemo but every adaptation I've seen cuts his origin and motivations out, and casts him as a white dude. The only actual race casting that was right was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and we all know how that turned out...

Nemo? How about Little Nemo?

Mangold is an fantastic director i loved his work on Walk the Line and Knight and Day. It would be a shame If he does not have time to work on Hugh Jackman's last movie as Wolverine. Let me think... Hmm... what about Darren Aronofsky?

I'd put my money on the one being made by Disney. Maleficent and Cinderella were big hits but that Pan movie this year was a mess.

How would Disney give The Lion King the Cinderella and The Jungle Book treatment?

I know that they're going to hire a white actor, or maybe stretch the boat and hire a black actor.

But should they actually hire an Indian, how about Hrithik Roshan. A really good actor and was great as an Anti-Hero/Ganster in Agneepath, and normally plays the hero.

Also is in great shape, and good looking bloke.

They need to get a better director. The Wolverine was piss poor. The only reason anyone thinks its not completely terrible is because they compare it to origins. Any piece of crap would look good next to origins.
